Where in the hell have I been?

Hello again fellow hags, just a few words on where I have been for about the past week.

As you know, we in southeast Texas had a little breeze blow through recently. For those who have been under a rock since I have made my presence known here, I am an EMT by trade. I spent from 2300 Wednesday night to 0100 Friday morning evacuating people from various hospitals in the greater Houston area.

I then spent the next 18+ hours being blown (around) by IKE. Since that time, I have realized how blessed I was to make it through that storm with only a 6 day loss of electricity. I have my home, I have water, and now lights.

I have missed my fellow degenerates on this board, and I am out of the loop for a minute, so please bear with my goofy ass......

Oh, and please remember those who do not have a home to come to. Galveston took the direct hit, and the island is just about uninhabitable.

    thanks-Jeff

Glad you made it through okay and thank you for your service to those in need. Your profession isn't an easy one. My SIL is in Orange and I saw the pics of her house last night. My heart broke. I've never met her personally but I told Hubby last night that I am ready to go and help her clean it up. 3 feet of water in the house and everything is ruined. I just couldn't imagine facing something like that alone. My heart goes out to everyone who has experienced loss from this event.

My in-laws live in Orange, and they sustained some damage, but Galveston and the Bolivar peninsula got tore up from the floor up.

Awww, jeez guys, you make me out to be some kind of hero or something...I am just doing what I love to do.......y'all are making me blush........gawrsh.......

What was really cool though, and those of you who were in EMS can appreciate this, is that my company had 10 trucks at one hospital during the initial phase of evacuations. When we loaded up, we went lights and sirens to the final destination. A caravan of 10 ambulances, all lit up. At 0100 in the morning. If that don't get your woo-woo going, then it must be broke!!!

i like lights and sirens, by the way........

I worked an ambulance for almost 20 years and the hairs on the back of my neck still stands up when ever I hear a siren.

Spoken from someone who appreciates the sirens......It frustrates me when folks are totally oblivious when we run hot. Me, my head's on a swivel, just looking and listening, cause one day I know somebody's not gonna be paying attention.

Still, it's all part of the job.

LOL! Glad you're okay and things are looking up. I have a friend in Houston who spent Ike at M. D. Anderson. He's lost his apartment & most of his possessions, but he's happy to be in one piece.

I was looking at pictures from Bolivar earlier this morning - one was a before & after pic - the devastation is mind boggling.

That is exactly why I am counting my blessings. I could very well be in your friends position. I hope he gets all of the help that he is entitled to. The medical center was a good place to ride this storm out.

Nothing like jumping into an ambulance driving 100mph lights and siren going. No drug will ever ever ever be as good as that.
