HANOI, Vietnam (AP) -- Former glam rocker and convicted child molester Gary Glitter will be deported back to Britain on Tuesday after being released from prison in Vietnam, his lawyer said.

Glitter, whose real name is Paul Francis Gadd, was convicted of obscene acts with children in March 2006 and sentenced to three years in prison. The incidents involved two Vietnamese girls, aged 10 and 11, from the southern coastal city of Vung Tau.
"Police booked his ticket from Ho Chi Minh City to London and I have already paid for the ticket on his behalf," his lawyer Le Thanh Kinh told The Associated Press by telephone Thursday.
Last year authorities cut three months off Glitter's three-year jail sentence for good behavior. He has been serving his term at Thu Duc prison in Binh Thuan province, 87 miles north of Ho Chi Minh City.
Kinh said Glitter told him several months ago he did not want to go back to Great Britain, but Vietnamese law requires he be returned to his home country.
In a recent interview with the Cong An Nhan Dan (People's Police) newspaper, Glitter said he intends to resume his singing career and might move to Singapore or Hong Kong.
Glitter was convicted in Britain in 1999 of possessing child pornography, and served half of a four-month jail term.
He later went to Cambodia but was expelled from that country in 2002, although officials there did not specify a crime or file charges against him.
Glitter hit his musical peak in the 1970s. His crowd-pleasing anthem "Rock and Roll (Part 2)" is still played at many sporting events.

Surely not because the child prostitution level over there is sky high.......bleh. What a sick effer.

Too bad they can't excise/laser the part of the brain that controls the bad impulses in people like him.

The urges never go away, that makes pedo's too dangerous.

HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam (AP) -- Authorities freed British glam rocker Gary Glitter from prison in southern Vietnam on Tuesday, sending the convicted child molester into an uncertain future after nearly three years of confinement.
Gary Glitter said recently he intends to resume his singing career and might move to Singapore or Hong Kong.
Guards removed Glitter, 64, from Thu Duc prison in Binh Thuan province and transported him Tuesday to Ho Chi Minh City airport, said prison director Tran Huu Thong. He was seen at the airport boarding a plane to Bangkok shortly before 9 p.m.
Vietnamese authorities planned to deport Glitter immediately back to Britain, said his lawyer, Le Thanh Kinh.
Glitter, whose real name is Paul Francis Gadd, was convicted in March 2006 of committing "obscene acts with children." He served 2 years and 9 months of a three-year sentence, which was reduced for good behavior.
The incidents involved two girls, ages 10 and 11, from the southern coastal city of Vung Tau.
Kinh has said the faded rock star did not want to return to Britain.
In a recent interview with Vietnamese newspaper Cong An Nhan Dan (People's Police), Glitter said that he was thinking about resuming his singing career and that he might move to Hong Kong or Singapore.
The Vietnamese will turn Glitter over to British authorities about 4 p.m. (0900 GMT) at Ton Son Nhat airport and then send him back to England, Kinh said.
Thu Duc is the biggest prison in Vietnam, with more than 10,000 prisoners, including roughly 100 foreigners. It is in Binh Thuan province, 87 miles (140 kilometers) north of Ho Chi Minh City.
In his 1970s heyday, Glitter performed in glittery jumpsuits, silver platform shoes and bouffant wigs. He sold 18 million records and recorded a string of British top-10 hits.
His most successful song, the crowd-pleasing anthem "Rock and Roll (Part 2)" cracked the top 10 in the United States, where it continues to bring sports fans to their feet with its rousing one-word chorus: "Hey!"
During the 1990s, Glitter became something of a has-been, living off his past glory and doing occasional quiz shows and variety performances.
Glitter's fall from grace began in 1997, when he brought his laptop computer to a repair shop and an employee there discovered that he had downloaded thousands of hardcore images of children. Two years later, British authorities convicted him of possession of child pornography, and Glitter served half of his four-month jail term.
He later went to Cambodia but was expelled in 2002, after children's rights advocates protested his presence in the country. Cambodian officials did not specify a crime or file charges against him.
Glitter subsequently moved to Vietnam, where he took up residence in a seaside villa in Vung Tau, a resort town popular as a weekend getaway for residents of Ho Chi Minh City.
Neighbors there said they often heard the bald and burly Glitter singing loudly by his swimming pool and entertaining teenage girls from behind the walls surrounding his home.
In November 2005, police launched a weeklong manhunt for Glitter after allegations arose that he had been molesting girls at his villa. He was arrested at Ho Chi Minh City airport, where he was trying to board a flight to Bangkok.
He was convicted in March 2007, and the trial judge denounced him for "disgusting and sick" behavior.
The court verdict said that Glitter had molested the girls repeatedly at his villa and in nearby hotels.
Although Glitter proclaimed his innocence, he was sentenced to three years in prison and given credit for time already served. His sentence was reduced by three months last year for good behavior during Vietnam's annual Lunar New Year prison amnesty.

Glitter fakes illness in Bangkok to miss flight

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Shamed rocker Gary Glitter was stuck at Bangkok airport on Wednesday after faking illness to avoid boarding a flight to London following his release from a Vietnamese prison for child sex abuse, Thai police said.
The 64-year-old, whose real name is Paul Gadd, flew to Bangkok after being booted out of the communist southeast Asian country on Tuesday, the day he completed his three-year sentence.
He had a connecting flight to London but refused to board the plane, apparently fearful of the hostile media and public reception he is almost certain to receive in Britain, where he has already served jail time for child pornography offences.
Major General Pongdej Chaiprawaj, head of Bangkok airport immigration police, said Glitter had faked an ear condition to avoid boarding. "He claimed to have tinnitus in his ears and declined to board the flight to London," Pongdej told Reuters, adding that Glitter had been declared an "undesirable" and would not be allowed into Thailand.
"He is banned from entering because he was jailed and he could pose a threat to domestic morality," he said. "He is a transit passenger and it is the responsibility of the airline to take him to his final destination."
Glitter, his face shrouded from photographers by a baseball cap and scarf, is now stuck in limbo in a "no man's land" transit lounge called the Louis Tavern. Staff at the Tavern said he was refusing to check out and claiming he was unwell.
Newspapers, who had reporters on Glitter's flight from Vietnam, said he had collapsed in a bedroom at the Tavern, complaining of heart problems and demanding to go to hospital.
Travellers are allowed to spend only 12 hours in transit at the airport before they are deemed to have violated Thai immigration law. It is unclear whether police will use force to put him on a plane.
The next Thai Airways flight to London departs around 1 a.m. on Thursday (7 p.m. British time on Wednesday).
In a prison interview with an official Vietnamese newspaper shortly before his release, Glitter said he wanted to go to Singapore or Hong Kong to revive his music career, although it is very unlikely any Asian country would be prepared to admit him.
He is blacklisted from Cambodia, where he spent several years in hiding before moving quietly to Vietnam.
The tabloid press eventually unearthed him in 2005 in the southern resort town of Vung Tau. He tried to flee, but was arrested at the airport and convicted soon afterwards of having sex with two young girls.
Glitter is best known for his bouffant hairstyle, high heels and "glam rock" 1970s hits such as "Rock and Roll (Parts 1 & 2)", "Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)" and "I'm the Leader of the Gang (I am)".

He is too chickenshit to be man enough to face everybody. Typical...

No problem facing little kids after what he's done with him - but having to face his peers is another story...nice.

Seriously, he will eventually be ferried back to the UK, these tactics are delaying the inevitable. I kid you not, he will lay low and eventually re-emerge back in south east asia. Change of appearance, new passport and he will be away. Mark my words, we will be hearing more about him and his exploits sooner or later.

Sick demented F***er. How many kids did he ruin before he was caught? Fox news says that there is possibly a 9 million USD stash he has hidden from selling the rights to his songs way back when. They should give the money to the kids he has abused.

    Glitter the Molester

Anyone ever heard of this guy?

HONG KONG (AP) -- Disgraced British glam rocker Gary Glitter, who served nearly three years in a Vietnamese prison for molesting children, was denied entry to Hong Kong after refusing to return to England, officials said Wednesday.
Gary Glitter has refused to board a flight to England from Bangkok.

Glitter flew to Hong Kong on Wednesday night after staying in the transit area of Bangkok's international airport for several hours.
"The Chinese authorities have informed us that they have refused Paul Gadd entry into Hong Kong," a spokeswoman for Britain's Foreign Office said. Glitter's real name is Paul Francis Gadd.
"It's a matter for the Chinese authorities what happens next," she said.
A second Foreign Office spokesman said Glitter was interviewed by Chinese immigrations officials after arriving in Hong Kong.
Glitter was turned away "as a result of those interviews," the spokesman said. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity, citing official policy.
In a statement, the Hong Kong government said that it doesn't comment on individual cases but that immigration officials would "take into consideration all relevant factors and circumstances when processing applications."
It was the third country to bar Glitter in the last two days.
On Tuesday night, Glitter was taken from his prison cell to a flight out of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. He had been booked to change planes in Bangkok en route to London. Watch how he was deported from Vietnam »
He refused to board a flight to England, however, complaining of an earache. Thai authorities would not allow him to pass through immigration, leaving him in limbo.
    Don't Miss

Lt. Gen. Chatchawal Suksomchit, the chief of Thailand's immigration police, said Glitter was denied entry because under Thai immigration laws, those convicted of child sex abuse in another country can be barred.
But another officer said his department received a note from Vietnam and Interpol requesting that Glitter not be allowed entry into Thailand. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.
Col. Voravat Amornvivat of Thailand's Immigration Police division said officials turned Glitter over to the custody of Thai Airways on Wednesday afternoon, after he agreed to travel to a third country.
Glitter, 64, was convicted in March 2006 of committing "obscene acts with children." He served two years and nine months of a three-year sentence, which was reduced for good behavior.
The incidents involved two girls, ages 10 and 11, from the southern coastal city of Vung Tau. The verdict said he had molested the girls repeatedly at his seaside villa in Vung Tau and in nearby hotels.
Although Glitter proclaimed his innocence, he was sentenced to three years in prison.
Glitter's fall from grace began in 1997, when he took his computer to a repair shop and an employee there discovered that he had downloaded thousands of hardcore pornographic images of children. Two years later, British authorities convicted him of possession of child pornography, and Glitter served half of his four-month jail term.
The news hit as British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith announced a raft of new measures to tighten controls on people convicted of sexual offenses against children.
If Glitter ever returned to Britain, he would be met placed on a sex offenders registry, which lists about 30,000 people.
In his 1970s heyday, Glitter performed in sparkling jumpsuits, silver platform shoes and bouffant wigs. He sold 18 million records and recorded a string of British top-10 hits.

Disgraced former glam rocker Gary Glitter will have to sign the sex offenders register, after a judge agreed to a police application.

Gary Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, has arrived back in London

Earlier, Glitter's solicitor had argued the 64-year-old should not be put on the register, claiming his human rights had been violated.
Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, arrived back in London just after 7am on board a Thai Airways flight that landed at Heathrow Airport, after being kicked out of Thailand.
He had spent several days trying to avoid returning to Britain following his release from a Vietnamese jail after serving almost three years for abusing two girls aged 10 and 11.
Metropolitan Police applied for a notification order, which requires Glitter to sign the sex offenders register.
But Glitter's solicitor told Uxbridge Magistrates Court the convicted paedophile should not have to be added to the register because his conviction in Vietnam was "unsafe... a gross breach of human rights".
David Corker told the district judge that his client claimed his conviction was a "travesty of justice" brought about by an "unfair trial".
Sky News reporter David Bowden, who is at the court, said: "Glitter's lawyer had tried to get a temporary notification order - in other words, he would sign the sex offenders register but only for a short period of time - he said six weeks.
"This was so he could prepare a case that the trial in Vietnam was unfair and therefore the conviction shouldn't stand, and if that didn't stand then he shouldn't be put on the sex offenders register."
But judge David Simpson said Glitter had "demonstrated his desire to avoid the jurisdiction of this court" and ordered that he sign on as a sex offender within three days.
The order will last indefinitely but Glitter has 21 days in which to make an appeal.
Outside court, Mr Corker said Glitter, who was still at Heathrow's Terminal Three, was glad to be back in the country.
"He's pleased to be back because there's the possibility that for the first time he can appear before a court of justice," he said.
"It is an opportunity for him to come before an English court and English justice."
He added that Glitter believes his trial in Vietnam was a "charade" and a "travesty of justice" and strenously denies the crimes for which he was convicted.
Mr Corker said the system of justice in Vietnam was "far, far below what is acceptable in western European standards".
When asked why Glitter did not appear before the court, Mr Corker said while his client was not required to front the court, the former star was concerned for his safety and chose not to attend.
Also, Glitter had delayed his return to Britain in order for a plan to be prepared for his protection and well-being.
"It enabled Mr Gadd and others to put into practice a plan for his proper and safe arrival.
"Mr Gadd is not a well man, he needs medical attention and is also, unsurprisingly, concerned about his safety."

    Gary Glitter Picture Gallery

Glitter had been at the centre of an international game of ping-pong as country after country refused him leave to enter.
The farcical series of events began on Tuesday when Glitter was released from prison.
He was ordered out of Vietnam and travelled to Bangkok, where he was expected to board a flight to Heathrow under the terms of his release.
But on arrival in the Thai capital, Glitter reportedly feigned heart trouble to avoid boarding the UK-bound plane.
He was barred entry to Thailand and warned he would be taken to a detention centre if he continued to refuse to leave the country.
After spending around 20 hours in the transit lounge at Bangkok Airport, Glitter boarded a flight to Hong Kong, hoping he would be accepted there.
But the Chinese authorities barred him entry and he was put back on a Thai Airways flight to Bangkok but on his arrival he was told by Thai authorities that he was not welcome.
With a growing list of countries stating that they would deny him entry, Glitter agreed to return to the UK.
The former chart-topping singer was convicted of downloading child pornography in the UK in 1999 after a computer repair shop found the images on his laptop and he served two months of a four-month sentence.

This guy is a repeat offender with a long-term pattern of incidents in multiple countries! I know the lawyer has to do a big smokescreen for his client, but I think only he and his client buy the "unfair trial" b.s. The UK law enforcement has a hardcore, unrehabilitated pedophile in their country and they know it. Good for the judge for insisting he register! The other good thing is with his picture splashed all over the media, I would imagine it'll be much harder to troll for victims, wherever he digs himself in, if somehow he manages to get himself removed from the register. Creep.

You can like the music without liking the person. Hell I do. I have a few of his albums burned to cd and still on occasion jam to them. Glitter, GG and Touch Me are still good albums. I have been a believer that criminals can change. Not that im condoning what he may have done but he had retired from music long before the arrest. The arrest in england sealed his fate for any sort of come back tour. If people are so adiment about him still being a molester you all need to get with the many thousands of sports teams that use Rock N Roll Part 2 as a crowd rouser song and force them to stop. Or else as long as theres sporting events, youll forever hear Garys only real pop hit.

Reguardless of how he conducts his own life I dont think back in 1984 when Joan Jett did the Do you Wanna Touch me cover that she had any inclination he was into kiddie porn. She has said she still thinks it was a great song and she enjoyed doing the cover of it. I like garys version better.

Again you can like the music withput liking the person.

I've certainly liked the music (and acting) of a few people who were pretty scummy in their private lives, Forever, so I get what you're saying. I certainly don't blame Joan Jett for somehow not knowing way back in the early 80's that he was into kiddie porn!

Every time a sports arena uses the song, though, they're going to have to pay this dude's roylaties. Same goes for a radio station that plays either any of Glitter's original stuff, or say, Joan Jett's cover. Some may argue that's supporting this guy, and therefore his sicko behavior. Maybe, given the publicity of this case and potential negative connotations people will have when the song is played, it'll get less playtime in public forums, like radio or sporting events.

I'd say for a private listener, especially if you've long since payed for your copy of whichever songs, listen guilt-free as far as I'm concerned. People have the right to listen to whatever they wish, and certainly a performer or artist's work can be enjoyed separate from whatever deeds they've done in life. I'd have to stop listening to anything Phil Spector ever produced is that wasn't the case in my mind! I think he's an utter scumbag murderer, but I'm not going to throw out my copy of "Let It Be", because of that. Maybe that's not principled enough for some, but oh, well.

Okay, I confess...I also like his version of "Touch Me"...

And in regards to liking the music and not the person, while we are the subject of pedophiles, I also like some of Michael Jackson's music.

Okay, I feel better now getting all that off my chest...whew!

He only had one mainstream hit anyways.

If you go to any sports event 99% of the people dont know who does the song they are cheering for the cues.
    ( Rock N Roll part 2 )

Yeah. I went to a play-writing course earlier in the year and there was a play we studied about a paedophile. The guy running the class had previously met with a counsellor who works with paedophiles, so as to understand the main character of the play better and teach it to us. This is what the counsellor said (forgive the language and imagery, but this is word for word as he told it to us and really puts it across as it is)
"Without exception, they are all in denial. The guy who fucks a 14 year old doesn't think he is 'as bad' as the guy who fucks a 10 year old. The guy who fucks a 10 year old tells himself "well at least I dont fuck 5 year olds". The guy who does that to 5 year olds doesn't think he is 'as bad' as the guy who's into babies. And the guy who's into babies doens't think he is 'as bad' as the guy who does that to a baby and then kills it. They are incapable of remorse even though they often recognise that their desires are not normal and are wrong. They often cry crocodile tears to speed up rehabilitation so they can go out and re offend."
The only hope for them and the children around them is constant surveillance. Yeah it is an illness, but at the same time we can never make excuses for them. I have known a paedophile myself. He came across as charming, polite and educated but he used to take advantage of the teenage boys in his care at a young offenders institution and boast about 'what they would do for a pack of cigarettes.' I also know that he slept in the same bed as a 14 year old boy whose parents he was friends with. I found this stuff out after I'd stopped seeing him socially, and if I had, I don't think I could have brought myself to accept his hospitality (he was a hotelier, and had a massive crush on my boyfriend who he's known for years and employed). There was a police investigation because some of the abused boys came forward about him years later, they confiscated a computer and lots of CDs (at the time he sold classical music Cds but they found nothing). We don't see him now. Thank goodness. From time to time I ask my boyfriend how he could have remained this guy's friend and employee, knowing those things about him.
I sometimes think my boyfriend would see good points in the devil himself.

Coming back to Glitter, that means he will never be sorry (his behaviour since his arrest has confirmed that) because he is incapable of remorse. I read somewhere on this thread that he is considering re-starting his music career. I don't know why as nobody will buy it, but Ive been reading with interest people's views on music made by deviant people. I mean, people listen to Wagner but he was anti-semitic, apparently. I know that the musis is somehow separate from the artist, but since I found out about Glitter I don't like to listen to his music. Which is silly really, because the music hasn't changed. But yet I could listen to Michael Jackson all day long, and I still dont' think he's whiter than white (no pun intended!)
The human ear, and heart, are funny things indeed.
