I remember hearing a lot of rumors on him as well as being an ass.

Asshat or not, The Rifleman kicked major ass!!! I truly loved it when he ventilated people with that repeater Rifle of his.
Chuck Conners was a real man. he had that tougher than nails look in his eye that said "DON'T fuck with me!" I liked that. Branded and Rifleman were both great shows.
Chuck was said to be horse-hung and also to have shown it in very early pron films made for those 'of the persuasia'.....
i loved him and branded. kent mccord was his name i believe. "branded" story of a man who ran. what can you do when your branded?? "where ever you go for the rest of your life, you must prove your a man" lol. when i was 19 i saw a show on channel 5 called werewolf. that was when channel 5 started their lineup of shows. well chuck conners was on the show and he was an old werewolf. they thought he was the head wolf but he was not. well anyhow his character went to assault a man and he started to pull the skin down from from his own head and face, he continued to pull his skin down and it scared me so bad that i got off the toilet with clothes down and turned the station. mind you i had the bathroom door open and was stretching my neck around the corner to see in the next room. ain't that a blip??
STRANDED!!
Stranded on a toilet bowl!
WHAT do you do, when you're STRANDED,
and you AIN'T got a Roll?
Sometimes I don't add much.
He was a nice guy but he had a potty mouth. He was the only person in history to get the f-troop on aired televison/radio during a basketball game. lol
Chuck Conners was the man,I use to love the rifleman.Don't know too much about his personal life.
Chuck Connors played professional baseball in the Brooklyn Dodger organization and professional basketball with the Boston Celtics.
Loved him in Airplane II

Oh steve...too freaky!
Steve - that pic has really freaked me out! Where's the "shudder" smiley?
Chuck was the man ...loved the rifleman and branded...used to watch all those old shows with my dad
Loved the Rifleman too, but his kid on the show was creepy. Paw, paw ... Then when he turned 15 or so, got on American Bandstand and sang. Awful, I can only compare it to the next generation when The Brady's became singers. Cringeworthy.
I thougt for years that I was the only person on earth who ever saw "Branded" No one seemed to remember it.
I remembered the title song word for word. Loved that show.
I always liked Chuck Conners But my mom hated him because she thought he was ugly.
He just looked like a tough guy to me and always kicked ass so I liked him.
I quit watcing TV in 1984 but recall being at someones house when he was the werewolf and thought he did a pretty convicing job of it.
I have heard he was actually a pretty nice guy in real life as well.
His Co-stars all liked him anyway.
he was impeccably dresses and mannered on his What's My Line? appearences.
in retrospect, there was a girl in high school i should have married, she picked up on Mark mccains whining almost from episode one.
You know...
I used to like the guy, he was a very convincing actor, because after I saw him in "Roots" (Along with Helicopter bait Vic Morrow) I hated him so much...
Disliked Doug McClure and Lloyd Bridges for a long time, also...

Wow, those last couple of photos have a Willem Dafoe thing going on....
.
I also think he played for the Celtics or somewhere in the NBA.He actually played for the Cubs. Check his headstone.
I always liked him on the Rifleman, and recall my parents being somewhat amused during the show's outro, when they rolled credits while showing a painting of McCain in profile holding out his rifle like he's firing it. I would stand next to the TV holding my rifle (a Rifleman rifle, by the way)in the exact same pose, looking as serious as an eight year old can, spelling doom for bad guys. Im sure when I wasnt watching, my parents rolled their eyes at each other.

For some odd reason the rights to the Rifleman series are held by a trust that is extremely hard to deal with and the episodes had been legally released only once years ago. If you see any DVDs they're pirated copies. Can't understand this hardass attitude of the holders of the rights, it's not as if they have a star who has a ton of drawing power like say Michael Jackson (bad comparison but I think you understand what I'm saying here).
I recall the first time I saw Chuck on an episode of Superman in which he played an extremely strong feller who had the nickname of Superman...hilarity ensues due to mistaken identity. Was struck by how much taller Chuck was than George...thought it odd that the "real" Superman wasn't the taller guy. This was a very early role for him and supposedly he was greener than green and scenes had to be reshot and reshot and reshot again...then they reshot again, and again to be sure. Gadzooks!
I ALWAYS liked Chuck Connors! He was what some would refer to as a MAN'S MAN! My husband LOVED "The Rifleman!" I always heard that Chuck Connors was a decent sort, and tried his best to stay out of the headlines. Apparently he did a good of it. And Bessolo-Interesting post as always.
Chuck Connors was the first professional basketball player to ever break a backboard. I happened to learn this bit of trivia a weeks before I met his son at a Western fan event. When I mentioned it to his son, he hugged me. Said he was just telling that to some people and they didn't believe him.
Should anyone be interested, here are a couple of sites (by the same guy) that are all about the spiffy rifle that Chuck carried:

if you get the retro tv channel, rifelman is on at 11:30 a.m. week days. my 85 yr old dad has to watch it!
He was a doll in The Riflemen. We went through all the available episodes. I wish they still made TV shows like they did then.
I always thought of him when I heard someone describe someone's look as chiseled. His face was so angular! The fact that some people hated him in Roots just demonstrates what a good actor he was!!!
I grew up watching Rifleman repeats, and absolutely love Chuck Conners, but never knew about his times playing professional sports. I love how I always learn new things from this site!
There are lot's of folks who are descended from white Russians ( the people not the drink) who have distinctly Asian features that pop up from generation to generation.
Roy Rogers is one as well. His family name was Spry but if you go back far enough they came over from the Crimea.
My niece married a guy who doesn't look at all Asian but has a full face. His family three generations back were from Russia. His twin daughters, my great nieces, now in the early 20s have the same full face but a slight Asian cast to their eyes, definitely a throw back to his Russian ancestors. It makes the girls, who are lovely by anyone's measure, have a very special exotic look. Could be the same case with Connors.

Mary

Roy Rogers, born Leonard Franklin Slye (November 5, 1911 â?? July 8, 1998), was an American singer and cowboy actor, as well as the namesake of the Roy Rogers Restaurants chain.
Thanks for the correction. He was a Cincinnati boy and a river rat. He was always a favorite of mine. He and Dale had a lot of influance on me growing up. I still watch the Roy Rogers theater on that rural tv cable network. Two of his son's including Dusty who I always had a crush on are on the show.

Back in the '80's, my (now) ex-husband brought home a video tape called "Hollywood Blue". It contained clips of actors/actresses in porn clips prior to their careers taking off. First off, some of them were questionable (more like look alikes). But one clip claimed to star Chuck Connors. It was a gay porn (early '50's?) and it was a couple of sailors doing it in a park. It really looked like him. If it wasn't him, he has a double. I kind of wish I never saw it.

Wonder what was going on here?
Little Mark is checking out Pop for splinters and termites. Do I hafta tell ya everything?
LOL. Actually, that was the only gay clip in there (from what I can remember). The other clips had Marilyn Monroe (it really wasn't her), Barbara Streisand (just a look a like) and Stallone (it was really him). There were others, but the Connors clip really stood out. Probably cause I wasn't ready for that one! I thought I heard poor Mark yell "No Pa No!"

As a child, I couldn't watch the beginning segment on Branded. Seeing all that stuff ripped off his uniform, for this 6 year old it was too much.
I searched and searched the other day out of boredom.... I found it on the web and watched a short clip that they allow you to see for free. I see the resemblance but I'm unsure.

I have been terribly addicted to The Rifleman lately. The show was long before I ever came along, but I now that I've discovered it, I'm hooked. Seriously, I don't think there is anybody cooler than Lucas McCain. I've yet to see an episode of Branded. I've been reading everything I can about him lately.
