    Jackie Gleason

Here is a great piece about how supposedly Jackie Met with President Nixon and viewed Alien bodys:

Everything Gleason did, he did with great passion. Every script for the TV shows had to be just the way he envisioned it. No one was ever allowed to step out of character. Camera shots and angles were always set up the way he wanted them. The passion also extended into his personal life. Fascinated by Flying Saucers and the unexplained, he ultimately assembled one of the world??s greatest parapsychology, UFO and occult libraries. The bulk of it resides today at the University of Miami Library.
In 1982 I was a guest on a talk show at a Miami radio station. The subject was UFOs and the Paranormal. After the show, I was handed a note by the receptionist. This often happened when I did radio guest spots because some people preferred to share their own UFO or Paranormal experience with me off the air. While walking to my car, I took a quick look at the note. It said, ??Please call Mister Gleason at?.? When I arrived back at my hotel room, I called the number, asked for Mister Gleason and gave my name. An assistant got on the phone and informed me that Jackie Gleason wanted to speak to me, if possible, the next day at a Fort Lauderdale location. Needless to say, I accepted the invitation!

The meeting location was a bar at the Jolly Roger Hotel in Fort Lauderdale. Now I don??t know if Gleason owned the hotel or merely had friends there, but after stopping by the front desk, I was escorted to a small bar that was closed to the public at that time of day. Gleason sat at a table like a king holding court, but looked older and weaker then I had imagined he would. I wondered why Gleason hadn??t met me in any one of his favorite Miami haunts, but it may have been that this was supposed to be a low profile event. Either way, I knew that Gleason was a serious guy who hated small talk and I wasn??t about to ruffle his feathers.
After a brief handshake, Gleason asked me a number of questions about my UFO and Paranormal investigations. We talked for about an hour and a half. Actually, he asked questions and I answered them. ??You know I get your newsletter,? he said knowingly. ??Good stuff!? He was especially interested in articles that covered the topic of crashed UFOs. At that time a lot of buzz had been created by former military officers who had begun to speak of their involvement with the cover-up of UFO crashes.
Out of the blue, Gleason told me how that Richard Nixon was a good friend of his. He had supported Nixon in every possible way during his successful bid for the Presidency in 1968. In 1971, Jackie Gleason attended a small White House dinner. After dinner, Gleason spoke privately with Nixon. He asked the President if there was anything that Nixon could tell him about UFOs? Were they real? Were they Alien Spacecraft? According to Gleason, Nixon told him, ??Well Jackie, if you can arrange to arrive at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa sometime in the next few days, I??ll arrange to have you shown some things that may help answer your questions!?
Gleason arrived in Tampa, Florida, a day and a half later. After calling a phone number provided to him by someone on Nixon??s staff, he headed out to MacDill AFB. After arriving on the base, he was taken to a dark colored building that appeared to be some sort of storage facility. Once inside, he had to pass through several levels of security. Finally, Gleason was escorted into a large room where some strange debris lay on the floor. An officer told him, ??This material is from Roswell.? No emotion, just a matter of fact statement.
The officer handed Gleason a small piece which seemed almost weightless and very flexible. Just then, a light came on in the center part of the room. Jackie was astonished to see what looked like a large piece of a broken disc just floating a few feet above the floor. Warned not to approach it, Gleason still got an eyeful. But the surprises weren??t over!
After just a few minutes, Gleason was escorted to another room. Three containers with glass plates for viewing greeted him. ??These were the occupants found near the object you just saw.? Again, with little emotion, the officer gave Jackie a one sentence description that spoke volumes. The beings were about four to five feet tall. Two of the bodies were badly damaged, but one was in very good shape. As Gleason looked at it, the officer said, ??This one died later.? It had large oval eyes, grayish skin and looked male. ??Are they all males?? Gleason asked the officer. ??Your guess is as good as ours.? He answered Jackie with a slight smile. It was time to go.
The experience of seeing the object and bodies affected Gleason more then he first realized. Although he had a hit variety show on CBS, Jackie walked away from everything for a few years to study more about UFOs and the Paranormal. It wasn??t until 1975 that he went back to work in a meaningful way.
If Gleason was affected by the experience he had, I was affected by his description of it! I met Jackie Gleason one more time at his New York estate. I didn??t bring a camera on either occasion because appearing with celebrities wasn??t what I was or am about. I was more interested in what Gleason, with millions of dollars to spend o the Paranormal, had learned about it. As things turned out, it was being owed a favor that brought him what he desired most. I just wish that he had brought a camera when he got to meet what may be the greatest celebrities on the earth, dead or living!
Note: When asked about it, Beverly McKittrick (Gleason??s ex-wife)gave information to the press about Gleason's experience which appeared in one or more magazine and tabloid articles. She was to have included it in a book about him, but she never completed the project.

I have watched that episode. He was so funny in "The Honeymooners". Joyce Randolph who played Trixie is still alive last I heard!!

MY favorite is the one in the pool hall where ends up getting into a fight. His timing was great!

He actually donated his collection of books on the occult, ghosts and UFO's to the Univeristy of Miami.

He was really into that kind of stuff!

I really enjoyed him in "Nothing In Common", I believe it was his last role. I've lived in Tampa for 19 years & have never heard about these unique items being stored at MacDill. But being that it is Central Command, they keep a pretty tight lid on things.

Jackie use to check in to hospitals sometimes to get his weight down.
one time a friend went to visit him but was told by the nurse,
'Mr. Gleason went home, he said he wasn't feeling well.'

    Jackie

Jackie was a drinker, a player and loved to live life. He threw some fab parties. My aunt who I mentioned before was a famous big band singer whose last gig was singing with the Pied Pipers. She was touring with Frank Sinatra and lived next door to his mother and really got along good with them. Anyway he introduced her to Jackie and she did appear on a few of his shows to sing. I found out what the show numbers were but unfortunately I could never find any copies. She said he was a great guy but he smoked and liked whiskey...

Jackie was "The Great One" for certain.

Sad how the governments spends so much money, just to play 'Ha Ha We know something you don't know' like four year olds.

I've been to Mr. Gleason's grave in Miami. At first, as I was approaching it, I was not sure it was his, but then when i got close enough, I could make 4 words on one of teh steps. They were: "And Away We Go".

Those color Honeymooners skits were part of Gleason's "American Scene Magazine" variety show which Gleason did for several years from Miami Beach after he moved there.

Sheila McCrae played Alice then...I forgot who played Trixie.

I`ve been to Jackie`s grave quite a few times....Our Lady of Mercy Catholic cemetery is one of my favorite places to go graving....everytime I go there is a single red rose left on his crypt...what I haven`t been able to find out, is who is suppose to be in the crypt next to him....it`s an exact duplicate of his, but no name and no body....I`m always scatching my head over this, and who is leaving the rose....

Your welcome! Excellent find. I think Morbidmolly knows where it is but like she said its a gated community so it may be difficult to get pictures of! I have always been interested in how Jackie was so fascinated in the occult. Hell he would be a true death hag if were alive today!!

Dan, I could be misinterpretting but I think the house Morbid Molly is referring to is his last residence, in a gated community somewhere in Florida. Jackie built this UFO house in the 50s in secluded Westchester NY and I'm assuming he resided there while filming/working in NYC. I wonder who's the fortunate soul who occupys it now.

Back to the honeymooners: something about the black n white, the sound, and the overall ambiance made that show what it was (imo). You take that same exact cast today with Color HD and THX sound and I think it would have lost something. The look was almost a character of the show.

The Honeymooners..great show!! I have the classic 39 on DVD!

Thee was little rehersal,Gleason liked it that way and there were no second takes the show went out live. The sets were painted cardboard (with the only apartment doors in the world that opened out instead of in).

Your Right Jason the old black and white film gives it a timeless quality that makes it such a great show!!

Yeah I say that because when I watched the later attempts in color, it SUCKED. Yeah I heard about the 1 take thing... when watching the classic 39 episodes I caught a few mistakes (probably due to the "no second take" thing) one that stands out is when Norton walks in to the apartment and says "hey Ralph" but Alice and Trixie were the only ones in the apartment.

The color episodes from the 60's where they would fucking would sing and dance, is that what you are talking about?

Yeah those sucked bigtime! Plus Jackie had lost a ton of weight so he really didn't fit the Ralph Kramden Character anymore.

Here is where the color episode's from the 60's were filmed:

But even those mis-cues were smoothly overcame by that cast, attesting to the talents of actors perfoming to a theatre audience as a way of life. You have to remember that was live television.

Example: Gleason as Ralph takes a puff on cigar and fails to stifle a real cough and here's were stage experience and natural comic thinking comes in handy...Gleason lets out the one real cough then forces more coughs, building in intensity up to almost a gag when he abruptly stops, clears his throat, holds up the cigar and says "it pays to buy the best".

That is a fair assumption! Do you know if Jackie did any ad-libbing on The Honeymooners?

Dan, I believe there were instances of ad libbing in the Classic 39 when the gag or skit didn't come off as planned. Off the top of my head, when Ed and Ralph were hawking their all-in-one contraption from Fatrack's factory on television (Can it core 'A apple?') At one point during rehearsal, Ralph waves the thing around and a part of it unintendtionally flies off. Ralph retrieves it and says something like 'maybe we should say something about fly fishing!'

Anyway, here's another link to a Gleason TIME article originally published in 1961. Page 8 has a couple of interesting paragraphs re the UFO house.

Great info thanks! Yeah I can't imagine with Live TV they never ad-libbed. And I think Jackie Gleason was clever enough to pull it off!

I will have to jump to page 8!!
