I read a couple of biographies on him. He was a real pig supposedly.
Most guys are and were.
From what we haver read, Bob enjoyed an ENORMOUS amount of fish during his lifetime? Why? He was so ugly. Did he have a 'big one'?
Discuss!
I can't believe I'm actually putting this in writing, BUT....in one biography (sorry I can't recall the name of it) he had been having a long fling with Marilyn Maxwell. She was always flying around with him to his USO shows and in several movies with him. Apparently she wasn't the only one. They were on a flight and he told her he wanted some head and when she went down on him, his thing was all diseased...scabby and crusty and gross, but she did him anyway. Funny I can't remember the name of the book, but I remember that story. LOL!
Read the one by Groucho's son, Arthur, a long time comedy writer.
He wrote a detailed and critical bio of Bob Hope. It recounts his philandering, his stinginess, and other warts about Hope. It also discusses Hope's USO shows, how the gov't subsidized them, Hope's use of them in his shows back in the States, etc.
But look, for the soldiers serving overseas they thought it was important he was there so I can't critique that aspect too much.
I just never thought Hope was funny. I don't think it is the fact we are at a different point in our culture. I just don't get Hope. He use to go out, spew some lines. If one joke didn't get you another would. All of them written by someone else. Kind of like Uncle Miltie.
Now Jack Benny, I get him and he is damn funny. Same with Groucho.
I met Bob Hope and worked the Behind scenes during one of his tours at Rhein Main. Basically the tour stayed in the Hotel I was in charge of. Got a autograph from him on a picture but what a asshat
"Where is Brooke? That F#CKING Bitch is always late" Poor Brooke and her mentral cramps
Makes sense.
scott says he was a will dip!
His wife must have been very understanding especially if he had that
problem with his private area. That's gross anyway. I can't believe
Marilyn would want to put her mouth on it. I wonder if she caught any-
thing.
a great many people consider his viet nam era uso shows nothing more than war proffiteering.
I think some of the stars do things like that for publicity. If
you are really sincere about helping people, you don't need the
camera in your face all the time.
Hi I'm Bob (got Gonorrhea) Hope. Hope you didn't catch it from me.
You just never know about famous people.
I think his war efforts were sincere but Bob had another side they hid really well!!!
Quagmire, the horndog character on Family Guy is based on Bob Hope. What does that tell you?
i am picking thru a bio of ski nose called "The Road Well Traveled" by lawrence j. quirk.it has a 1998 copyright,so i would like to see the next edition. i would say it is worth reading. it certainly does'nt change much that has been posted here.

I was surprised to find out that my mother actually met Bob Hope back in the late 60's in St. Louis, MO. My aunt was a famous big band singer who sang with the Pied Pipers. They were in St Louis and Bob Hope as well as my aunt and the band were staying at the same hotel. Anyway, my mother was pretty trashed and they seen Bob Hope and was trying to get him to party with their group. But he would not however, he seen my aunt who was quite beautiful and as she was calling it a night having finished her last set of the evening they boarded the same elevator and although he was on a different floor he insisted on escorting her to her room and tried to force himself on her. He was pretty pathetic. My aunt was able to get away from him but she said he was a horndog.
Now as the years go forward my husband actually met him when he was working at the Grand Cypress Hotel in Orlando in the 80's. He took his dinner to Bob's room and Bob was working on something but the cheap ass did not tip my husband at all.. So I have heard how Bob was from people who knew him they were all true...
Marilyn Maxwell was no secret as Hope's g/f. It was common knowledge. There was a time,Hope really fell for one woman and seriously discussed divorce with Dolores. (I am repeating gossip from a guy who helped build sets on the Road movies.) I cannot remember if that woman was Maxwell. Anyway, when Hope found out how much money he would have to give his wife for a divorce, that ended the hot romance. There was always talk of how cheap Hope was.
I had a girlfriend who was a waitress at Lawry's Prime Rib on La Cienega in Bev Hills. She said the entire female staff would cringe when he came in, usually without his wife. He was very crude and grab and grope any woman who came close enough to him. They hated him and he was a cheap bastard to boot.
I just remember what was probably his last Texaco commercial and he had that glazed over, "Where the hell am I" kind of look in his face. I always wondered how many takes it took to get that one line out of him.
Any day above ground is a good day.
Can you imagine what it was like working with him and Crosby on those Road Movies? A horndog and a control freak. What a combo.
Does anyone know how much he was worth when he died?I heard that his will is sealed.
If this has already been posted, forgive me. I looked.
Anyone?

Theres already a thread on Bob, kman.
Check it out here:

To answer your question ive read that he was worth more than a half billion dollars by the time of his death.
The $500,000,000.00 figure is also what I have heard. Also, he listen to Bing Crosby on investing and financial matters. Bing had a brain for bucks.
That's a lot of cash. And he didn't even take it with him.
Kinda makes me think that a really successful person is one accumulates great wealth and spends the last dime just before dying. Used it all up, just in time.
Hey Danny! The bare chest is one thing; but please leave the pants on. <G>
i think everyone will feel better with the knowledge Bob was an honorary Harlem Globetrotter, although he was put some what in the shade when his holiness Pope John Paul,II was also so honored.
I heard that Bob was never legally married to Delores Hope. There is a book around that says this.
Now I think he did a good job entertaining the troops. I also heard the movie with Bette Midler is based on his life story. For the boys or something like that.
For The Boys was thought to be about Martha Raye. I think she (raye) sued Bette Midler and/or the producers of the movie...
Boy those pics of Bob Hope in later life from Scotts website the poor guy looked like a zombie...well "Poor" guy is a bad choice of words. Bob Hope was far from poor!!!
I will have to look into that About him not being legally married to her? He screwed around enough on her!!! Yeah they did a hell of a job back in the day covering up the stars indescretions!! They would have a field day with Bob, Frank, and Bing and all the stars if they were still around.

Lots of info here!
And I think Crosby was the bigger prick, simply because he was supposedly fooling around with Grace Kelly, while Dixie was on her deathbed.

Renowned Death Hag
kitty, have you seen the Halloween greeting card ,when opened plays your signature?
Dang Y'all. Its kind of like hearing that Abe Lincoln owned slaves or something! lol Hope, Crosby, Ball--they had their issues but they did some great stuff on film and TV and for all their garbage I think the world is alot better for them having passed through. Guess I'm just sentimental because my dad is a WW2 veteran and those were HIS links to that time and music--and my kids--who are 4, 8 and 10 INSIST on movies like White Christmas and Holiday Inn every December. So--yeh thay were jerks in private but my hat's off to them for what the contributed to us--or at least to my life.
