    Question Attachment Questions

Is there are limit to how many attachments were can put up?
Is there a preferred way to do it? (insert? attach? thumbnail)

There's no limit to how many attachments a user can have. You can only upload so many at a time, but once they are done uploading, you can go back and upload more.

It's always better to use the attachment feature. Once the attachment is uploaded, if it is a big picture that you want people to see in large format, you can right-click on the new link that will appear on the Post Reply page and then copy the location of the image. Then you can paste the location into the message so you can have both a big image and the security benefits of an attachment.

I am unable to post some very vital pictures of my pets in the "Furbaby thread" because the forum says I already posted them in "Do you have a pet thread". I tried, but did not complete the process. Is there a prohibition on duplicate attachment posts?

    Question Picture Upload Questions

I did a search & didn't see this asked before. I used Yahoo Images to copy & paste some pictures into some of my posts. I looked at them today & they're not the same pictures! Is this because they were not "free" pictures? I thought if you couldn't copy & paste they weren't free.

Also, after you download a picture to use in a post, how do you reuse it? If I try to download it again, it gives me the location of the thread I used it in before. Do I have to go back to that thread & use copy paste?

    Thank you!

Use the attachment feature when you reply to make the picture part of the forum. That way if the original address ends up pointing to another image, your original intent is maintained and you won't inadvertantly end up linking porn or some other goofy image you didn't plan on linking.

I'm not sure...I've never tried it on here...I know if you want a photo in your album you have to upload it to the site...I dunno if it is the same for a PM word document...Try highlighting the document...And then try to copy and paste...I've done that in posts before...

I noticed that most of the pictures I have posted disappeared. But when I try to edit my posts and add new pictures I can't. I get the message that there is already 4 pictures (and I can't see them or delete them). Any advice how I can edit my posts? Usually I can do that but this time I can't.

If you can't delete the pics, can you just delete the post and start over?

I was thinking about that too. I guess it is the only choice. Thanks!

Error While Trying To Upload Pics

This just started tonight. I tried several times:

Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing.

If this occurred unexpectedly, please inform the administrator and describe the action you performed before you received this error.

Okay, I have a question. I have been posting photos on this forum without any problems until recently. Now, any time I try to upload or paste in a photo to a reply, it will not load. I have been trying to upload a picture I took myself into a thread for almost a week now. I tried resizing it down to 146kb and the upload is rejected with a red exclamation point or if I try to paste it into the post it still says there are too many "characters" in the photo. Any thoughts of what I am doing wrong. Also, I cannot find the specification for photo size on the site. Are they available?

I don't even use that attachment thingy on the site. It shows a tiny 2x2x2 pic. I want the pics I post to be actually seen , not the size of the avatar.

Go open up a accountt at photobucket and upload them there. Its fast, free and you don't need to be a nerd to do it. They give you four urls, one for emil, an html one, an img url and one more. Since you. Can preview the post before its posted, you can ccp the , I think the img url for your pic , paste it here and make sur you have ccped the right url. The pictures I think are much bigger and easier to see the the attachment link this site provides.

The picture uploads should be working. Is anyone still having problems?

Attachments are strongly, strongly preferred - for a few reasons:

    1) Any time you link an image from an external source, you are opening a window for that site into our site. It has happened before that the other site changed the picture to something else. So what started as an image of a 1960s Flintstones lunchbox someone wanted to show off could turn into a hardcore pornographic image. If you link lunchbox.jpg from another site, all the other site has to do is upload a new image with the same name and whatever is uploaded there will show up here. This shouldn't affect providers like Photobucket, though some places do serve "Image Not Available" and "Bandwidth Exceeded" images instead of the pictures you want from time to time.

Remember that Photobucket may come under new management or change its terms of service at some point. Or you could delete your account (or pass away and have your account closed due to inactivity or the actions of your family). In either case, what used to be nice pictures on these forums will turn into red Xs, so to speak.

    2. Hotlinking (look up the term if you are unfamiliar with it) isn't good Internet etiquette since you are making another site host (pay for) the image you are showing on your site. Again, not a factor with Photobucket right now, but terms of service change and even sites that were huge and ubiquitous (hello, MySpace) can drastically change in a relatively short time. It's not too farfetched to think that some free sites will institute pay walls at some point.

    3. Images hosted here are far less likely to slow down page loads since everything you see on the FAD forums is hosted on one server and no requests have to be made to another server.

Here's how to make your attached image show up big in your post: just copy the URL of the attachment and then put that URL in your post surrounded by IMG tags instead of URL tags. As you may know, there is a Manage Attachments function that you can use to upload images. After you upload an image, you have a chance to right-click it and get its URL. This is before you make your post. There are a couple of different way to get the URL, but the easiest might be to just preview your post and copy the the address of the full-size (target) image. If you click on a thumbnail when you are previewing your post, the image will open in a new tab or window, so you will not lose your post.

Otherwise, you can find the link right there in the Manage Attachments interface with an extra part added on that makes it a thumbnail. Grab the link and make it an image. Try to quote this post (the one you're reading now) if you want to see an example of IMG tags. The URL of the thumbnail is:

    Code:
    http://www.findadeath.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=41849&d=1333171065&thumb=1&stc=1
I just took out the part in red to make it the URL to the full-size image.

You can also just put images in your FAD albums and link them from there. That will eliminate the problem with all three points I listed above.

While looking for something else, I just stumbled on a good example of what I was talking about. These are ImageShack images that are probably pretty cool but don't show up because they aren't attached. Here is the URL and here is a screen capture:

I'll look for a more user-friendly solution. I have something in mind.

How do I delete pics from the attachment file?

I have tried several times to delete old pics, but I have a truckload. The bulk of the photos were posted using the paperclip icon or the actual picture icon. It mentions that pictures not used after 30 days will be deleted, but they never go away. The last thing I want to do is screw up the website. Help, please

Go to Settings, scroll down and click on Attachments in the left hand column. That will bring you to a page that lists all your attachments with a tick box at the end of each.

Thanks, Cindy. I was concerned about messing up the website.

You're welcome. I'm not sure, but I think if you delete an attachment it will also be deleted from whichever posts it's attached too.
