    Murder of Mickey Bryan

An absolutely fascinating case, and a well-written article.

But I'm gonna warn you - and don't say I didn't warn you - this is only Part 1 of the story. It will continue in the NYT next week.

I feel like her brother may have something to do with it, but I may change my mind after I have read more.

    My feelings as well.
I've been tempted to search for more info but I don't want to detract from the quality\enjoyment of the next article by advance knowledge.
The writing is too good for that.

Yeah. There was soooooo much discussion in Part 2 about the blood spatter analysis. It kinda made it drag for me, but it was still interesting.

That is one of the most fascinating cases I've ever read.
Today you could be standing next to someone who is trying their best not to fall apart. So whatever you do today, do it with kindness.

It sounds like blood splatter analysis is a real crock, at least as it is generally practiced.

Agreed. A 40 hour class, and then you're an "expert witness" in a capital trial?

    Yeah.
They should use all of the tools in the scientific arsenal against crime fighting.
Lie detectors, zodiac predispositions and phrenology come to mind.

Better yet, heal the victim with homeopathy and let them do the testifying.

This is a bit of an update on the case, although it is not promising. It includes a short video interview with Joe Bryan.

The blood spatter guy actually submitted a sworn affidavit which said in part: "My conclusions were wrong. Some of the techniques and methodology were incorrect. Therefore, some of my testimony was not correct."

    Thanks for that.
I can't imagine what the judge is thinking.

    Damn.
With a significant expert witness recanting (or at least discrediting) his testimony, the guy should be getting a new trial and should likely be freed until it's done.
