    Lotsa luck.
It's been more than 30 years. I don't see how they're gonna find anything after not searching for so long.

I love it when criminals get away and escape with their crimes!
Ever notice how we don't hear about those who get away?
There have gotta be hundreds maybe even thousands who escape from the cruel hands of cops and law enforcement!

Dan Cooper (aka "D. B. Cooper") is a pseudonym given by a notorious aircraft hijacker who, on November 24, 1971, after receiving a ransom payout of US$200,000, jumped from the back of a Boeing 727 as it was flying over the Pacific Northwest of the United States somewhere over the Cascade Mountains, possibly over Woodland, Washington.
No conclusive evidence has surfaced regarding Cooper's whereabouts, although the FBI believes he did not survive the jump. Several theories offer competing explanations of what happened after his famed jump. Three significant clues have turned up in the case. In February 1980, eight-year-old Brian Ingram found approximately $5,800 in decaying $20 bills that were uncovered on the banks of the Columbia River. In late 1978, a placard, which contained instructions on how to lower the aft stairs of a 727, believed to be from the rear stairway of the plane from which Cooper jumped, was found just a few flying minutes north of Cooper's projected drop zone. In October of 2007, the FBI announced they have obtained a partial DNA profile of Cooper from the tie he left on the hijacked plane. The nature of Cooper's escape and the uncertainty of his fate continue to intrigue people. The Cooper case (code-named "Norjak" by the FBI[4]) still remains an unsolved mystery. On December 31, 2007, the FBI reopened the case by publishing never before seen photos and fact sheets online in an attempt to trigger memories that could possibly identify Cooper. In a press release, the FBI reiterated that they do not believe Cooper survived the jump, but are nevertheless interested in obtaining his identity.

It's a theory that he did not survived the jump. Ok, cool. But why the heck the FBI hasn't been able to find the corpse?!?!?! The only way to accept that is that his body dissintegrated(sp) by the speed of descent.

I wonder if the FBI wants us to think he's dead.
Even if he did surrvive the jump, which could have been tough conditions, he would still have to get out of the wilderness.
    Anything is possible here.

I think he's dead, too. He had no idea where he was jumping and didn't notice that the 2nd chute was sewn shut. No one has any idea where/when he jumped from the plane exactly, so if he did die, it'd be damn near impossible to find him unless he landed on someone's house or on a road somewhere.

Lol that is a good question Grin. My husband has tried to talk me in to jumping out of a plane. No way is that gonna happen. With my luck it would be my parachute sewn shut.

Don't blame ya one bit catt. I like having my feet on the ground as well, thank you very much.
Though I did have a desire to hang glide at one time. It seems like with hang gliding one has more control.
Yet I met someone who died while hang gliding.

    From story on cnn.com:
The FBI said that while Cooper was originally thought to have been an experienced jumper, it has since concluded that was wrong and that he almost certainly didn't survive the jump in the dark and rain. He hadn't specified a route for the plane to fly and had no way of knowing where he was when he went out the exit.
"Diving into the wilderness without a plan, without the right equipment, in such terrible conditions, he probably never even got his chute open," Seattle-based agent Larry Carr said.
He also didn't notice that his reserve chute was intended only for training and had been sewn shut.

--They probably did it to mess with him/stall for time. If he was an experienced jumper he more than likely would have checked the chutes before take off. Me thinks him a very dead, flat man.

Love to see how this ends. I remember watching a segment about this on IN SEACH OF 30 years ago, and I always wondered 'Did her make it ?' 'Did he die that night ?'

One 'mystery' featured on IN SEARCH OF that has finally been soved is that of ANNA ANDERSON; she was not the GRAND DUCHESS ANASTASCIA.

    D. B. Cooper found?

I was reading about him just today and found this:

By GENE JOHNSON, Associated Press Writer 32 minutes ago

SEATTLE - The FBI is analyzing a torn, tangled parachute found buried by children in southwest Washington to determine whether it might have been used by famed plane hijacker D.B. Cooper, the agency said Tuesday. Children playing outside their home near Amboy found the chute's fabric sticking up from the ground in an area where their father had been grading a road, agent Larry Carr said. They pulled it out as far as they could, then cut the parachute's ropes with scissors.
The children had seen recent media coverage of the case â?? the FBI launched a publicity campaign last fall, hoping to generate tips to solve the 36-year-old mystery â?? and they urged their dad to call the agency.
"When we went to the public, the whole idea was that the public is going to bring the answers to us," Carr said. "This is exactly what we were hoping for."
A man identifying himself as Dan Cooper â?? later mistakenly but enduringly identified as D.B. Cooper â?? hijacked a Northwest Orient flight from Portland, Ore., to Seattle in November 1971, claiming he had a bomb.
When the plane landed at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, he released the passengers in exchange for $200,000 and asked to be flown to Mexico. He apparently parachuted from the plane's back stairs somewhere near the Oregon border.
Agents doubt he survived because conditions were poor and the terrain was rough, but few signs of his fate have been found.
Carr spoke with the children's father, whom he declined to identify, early this month and learned the chute was white, the same color as Cooper's.
And when Carr overlaid the family's address onto a map investigators made in the early days of the investigation, he learned another encouraging fact: They lived right in Cooper's most probable landing zone, between Green and Bald mountains.
Carr hopped in his car and drove down. He dug around the property for about 45 minutes, unsuccessfully looking for a harness or other remains from the parachute, but the children weren't home, and the father wasn't sure exactly where they found it.
There are no obvious markings on the parachute to indicate whether it's the type Cooper used, a Navy Backpack 6 with a 26-foot canopy, Carr said. He's hoping a member of the public who has expertise in the parachutes will come forward and confirm whether it's the right kind before the FBI bothers to excavate the property. Barring that, the agency could turn to scientific analysis of the fabric.
"We've got to be pretty darn sure we're not wasting time and money here," he said.
If it is Cooper's parachute, that will solve one mystery â?? where he apparently landed â?? but it will raise another, Carr said.
In 1980, a family on a picnic found $5,880 of Cooper's money in a bag on a Columbia River beach, near Vancouver. Some investigators believed it might have been washed down to the beach by the Washougal River. But if Cooper landed near Amboy and stashed the money bag there, there's no way it could have naturally reached the Washougal.
"If this is D.B. Cooper's parachute, the money could not have arrived at its discovery location by natural means," Carr said. "That whole theory is out the window."

That sketch of him is so generic. It could be any mid-30s white guy.

We have a friend who is an 82nd Airborne Ranger. He's done night jumps, jungle jumps, etc. I quizzed him about the possibility of DB Cooper surviving the jump and he said if he was trained, he absolutely could have made it, if the parachute did open. Our friend, Capt. Sampson, is in Kuwait right now, so light a candle or whatever you do for hope and good blessings. Just had to throw that in, I worry about him constantly. He's only six years away from retiring.

Anywhoo. If he did survive the jump, what happened to the rest of the money? All the serial numbers were recorded and other than the bunch the family found, it never surfaced.

That other article is very interesting. If the chute is indeed his, that means he landed alive and carried the money to where it was found.

Everytime I read about DB Cooper I hear from those "experts" that he could not have survived that job from the airplane.

    I wonder about that.

Werent there a few cases of people surviving dropping from planes much higher in the air than DB's jump?

I seem to remember reading about some plane crash that took place in the 70s. The plane exploded in the sky and everything fell miles to the ground, but one passenger managed to survive that.

I don't remember, but I think that the FBI states over and over and over that he could not have made it because they feel that there is a good chance that he could have made it.

It upsets the FBI that he has never been found dead.
