Well, shit on toast. I thought he would be around a few more years. Had a great voice and some wonderful songs. Never met him, but, he seemed like the decent sort. My Ol' Lady is going to be upset. She loved his music. RIP Tom.

God, this is sad. No confirmation yet, but it's only a matter of time now.

I believe he's already dead and the family wants some privacy time before announcing it officially.

I haven't posted to this forum in YEARS (thankfully my login still works lol) but felt compelled to now. Tom Petty was/is my absolute favorite. I believe I saw him for the first time in 1985, and I was fortunate enough to have seen him this past July in Boston. I was struck by how humble he was, saying (in a very sincere tone) "Thank you, Boston" several times throughout the show. A true talent and a class act....so different from the plethora of ENTITLED so-called "musicians" that are, for reasons I can't fathom, so popular nowadays.

    Tom Petty

Was sad to hear that Tom Petty died. He was such a groundbreaking musician and yet some humble, matter of fact about it. The documentary about him, Running Down A Dream is really amazing and worth watching, even if you aren't a fan. Plus, he was awesome as Lucky in King of the Hill.

The thing I found interesting was that he died, then he was not really dead, then he ended up dying again. The whole thing was some of the worst news reporting I've seen. For such a legendary musician I expected better from the media.

Enjoyed his work as Lucky on "King of the Hill," playing the boyfriend/husband of Louanne Platter (Brittany Murphy). Now both are gone.

Honestly, I woke up and saw this, so depressed...I had a chance to see him in Tampa this year and my husband wasn't a huge fan. I am sick, he was one of the most iconic and talented songwriter and musicians to walk this Earth. Gone way too soon. RIP Tom, you were on the top of my playlist.

    Autopsy results, accidental OD.

"Tom’s autopsy report shows the singer was on several pain meds, including Fentanyl patches, oxycodone, temazepam, alprazolam, citalopram, acetylfentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl. The reason doctors prescribed the meds was because of a number of medical problems, including emphysema, knee problems and a fractured hip."

Some of the same shit that killed Prince, who also had issues with his hips.

I read about all the drugs Tom Petty was taking as well.

"The Hall of Fame musician had taken several pain medications, including Fentanyl, oxycodone and generic Xanax. Other medications included generic Restoril (a sleep aid) and generic Celexa (which treats depression)."

He'd also been addicted to heroin in the past.

At least he is not suffering any more, much as we miss him, and now he may RIP.

I had no idea that he mad so many medical problems.

I know the media is calling it accidental, but anyone who knows anything at all about drugs, (and I'm sure Tom knew a thing or two), would know that's a lethal combination. I'm not saying he committed suicide, I'm just not so sure I'd call it accidental. IMO, an accidental OD would be if someone forgot they took their meds and retook them. If he was taking all this knowingly, he had to know he was rolling the dice.

So on the day he died his fractured hip had graduated to a full break...horrible pain. I wish his doctor and family had insisted on immediate hospital care and surgery....maybe they did and he refused....who knows. He was taking a deadly combination and I am guessing in his pain he overdid it. Sad. So very sad.

Deadly combination alright, I don't know why people take all this stuff, it's so dangerous all together and it's just a matter of time before an 'accident' occurs. Very sad that the world had lost another talented musician this way.

Loved his music - with the Heartbreakers, the Traveling Wilburys, and of course solo with the writing and producing help of Jeff Lynne. My wife and I will be traveling to Chicago this next year in our FR-S to see Jeff at the Allstate Arena. Will be thinking of Tom...RIP.
