Aww. RIP to a great talent and pioneer for women. She had been in poor health for many years.

So sad, I loved her show. What coincidence that she would die within two months of her former husband, Grant Tinker, who was 90 and passed away on November 30th, 2016. She said in an interview that her alcoholism was the cause of the divorce.

It would be great if one of those people who normally draw political cartoons did a tribute to Mary with clouds and angels in the background and have her hat break through the cloud below them with the words "Made it"

    Some of the other tributes:

"Who can get a smile out of a frown... who can throw her hat up in the air, and catch it b'for it hits the ground..." I think most of us knew this was coming. I had forgot that her only child accidentally killed himself with a sawed off shotgun back in 83'. The manufacturer discontinued that model soon after because of it's hair trigger. I know a lot of folkss thought he had o'ffed himself which apparently isn't true, but I do believe it led her to alcoholism. RIP MTM

She will be buried Sunday January 29, in the AM, locally (to me anyway.) I can't believe what is being reported about what will be spent. Does anyone know where her son is buried or kept?

According to Find A Grave, her son was cremated and his ashes were scattered on a stream.

BTW, does anyone know why we don't have many MTM merchandise around? The series were released in DVD in the late 90's, but that's that. I've been waiting forever for it to be released in Blu-ray. Also, I'm a Barbie collector, I have Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett (among others), and I'd love it if Mattel did a MTM doll, throwing her beanie to the air.

I wonder if Mary herself was against selling her image.

Grew up with this show. My mom loved it, she watched it all the time. (I always liked Ted Knight. Caddyshack was more my genre!). The Chuckles the Clown funeral was her fave. Moms been gone since `10 and now Mary. Dang, I`m 50...getting old!

What cracks me up are all the comments on the themes of why this is being publicized now, why not respect the dead (by not revealing uncomfortable facts), let's just remember her roles of decades ago, how dare you accuse her (younger, and now in control of her estate since her entire immediate family is long dead) husband, blah blah blah...
When MTM actually revealed a lot of personal dirt in her own memoirs? Evidently she wanted (and hoped to profit from) her fans learning some harsh truths about her life, much as she was willing to give them. Speculating on her "sad last days" (as the NATIONAL ENQUIRER would put it) is fair game.
Not that it's going to solve any mysteries or help with the "national conversation" about "alleged" elder abuse and very real health issues (after all, agonizing over poor Casey Kasem's pre- and post-mortem situation didn't help anyone in the end, either.) Still, people are going to be curious, and since Ms. Moore was forthright about certain matters at one time, perhaps she would have appreciated the sympathy for her (sadly common) end-of-life problems.

And while I still think that ginormous gravesite with the statue is over-the-top (and really, does Dr. Levine sincerely intend to be interred there at some future date?) at least it's not thousands of miles away in Scandinavia (like the unfortunate Mr. Kasem.) People traveling in Connecticut can go there during the day-- it's a nice historical "garden" cemetery with lots of neat monuments, a reknowned arboretum, and apiary (you can buy Oak Lawn Cemetery honey!)

The article seems to be written for the sake of writing an article, nothing really notable. I found it curious that they mention she died without any members of her family (all deceased) outside of her husband being with her in her final moments. How many people die alone? Thankfully she had someone there to hold her hand. And a couple of squabbles during her final years... who doesn't have that? Sheesh...

With so many interesting, historical cemeteries becoming derelict due to the lack of funds to maintain them (usually right after all the available plots have been sold), it's a fundraiser of sorts. I think the arboretum plays into this also. I don't know if one has to pay for "perpetual care" there, though MTM's plot will need a bit of extra work with a weedwhacker, etc.

I kinda did met Mary....though I didn't know it until I got in my car and drove away. Back in 1993 she was at WUSQ-FM in Winchester, Virginia. As I walked out the building as I finished the all night shift there was a woman sitting by herself on the patio smoking a cigarette. It was dark and I really thought she was a sales chick. About a few miles down the road I heard the morning guy say on the air "..in our studio it's Mary Tyler Moore !!". I felt stupid !!!
