Michael Findlay - Director of Snuff: The movie

Michael Findlay, along with his wife Roberta Findlay, directed and produced numerous sexploitation movies. They are notable for having created the infamous Flesh trilogy and, with Allan Shackleton, for Snuff (1975), the namesake of the fictional snuff film genre.
Michael Findlay was killed by being decapitated in a helicopter accident on the roof of the then Pan Am Building (now named the MetLife Building) in New York City in May 1977

I remember everyone was in an uproar about this being perhaps a "real" snuff film!
In fact it was a cheap grindhouse pic....but I love the tagline, "The Film that could only be made in South America...WHERE LIFE IS CHEAP" LOL!

    You can actually buy this:

If I recall, that film had been laying around and the ending was just tacked on way after the fact.
There is also a film (not by him) titled 'Last House on Dead End Street' which also
features 'snuff' and was promoted as 'real'

Dom Simpson? I heard he was sick-but that is SICK!
Supposedly a journalist got Robert DeNiro to help him get into see a real snuff film. They watched it and Deniro wasn't impressed.

Don Simpson was garbage wrapped in skin IMO. It wouldn't surprise me if he was into "snuff" films.

This is about another infamous film titled 'Last House on Dead End Street' I had no idea the director of that film died this year:

Few knew who actually directed the film, until Roger Watkins, who died in March 2007, posted on Internet message boards three decades after it was made saying he was behind it [1]. The film was made in 1973, but wasn't released until four years later.
Watkins has said he was high on amphetamines while making the film. He also said only about $800 was spent making the film, while the remaining $3,000 budgeted was used to buy drugs [2]
The film was virtually unavailable until Barrel Entertainment released a double-disc DVD in 2002. In the 1970s, its release was limited to grindhouse and drive-in theaters. It is also known as "The Cuckoo Clocks from Hell" and "The Fun House. "The version entitled "The Cuckoo Clocks Of Hell" originally ran some 175 minutes in length though the only remaining print of it in that form is thought to be stored in a New York film lab.

The film started out as a low-budget gore film titled Slaughter which was written and directed by the husband-and-wife grindhouse filmmaking team of Michael Findlay and Roberta Findlay. Filmed in Argentina in 1971 it depicted the actions of a Manson-esque murder cult. The film went unreleased for several years, though after the controversy that erupted when it was released in 1976, people claimed to have seen it before.
In 1976, the Findlays' distributor, Allan Shackleton, a low grade filmmaker and sometimes pornographer specializing in sadomasochism, added a new ending in which a woman is brutally murdered by a film crew, supposedly the Slaughter crew. Filmed in a vérité style, the new ending purported to show an actual murder. The new footage was spliced onto the end of Slaughter with an abrupt cut that suggested that the footage was unplanned and authentic, and the new version released under the title Snuff.
This was done as a marketing ploy so that the fake on-camera death could be promoted as being genuine. Shackleton even went so far as to hire fake protesters to picket the movie theaters showing the film. Soon this became moot, as the group Women Against Pornography began staging real protests, which received coverage by such outlets as the CBS Evening News.
The new ending was not organised nor shot by the Findlays. After realising that their film Slaughter was being reused they threatened to sue Shackleton, later accepting an out-of-court settlement. Shortly thereafter, Roberta Findlay left her husband for Alan Shackleton, who taught her to make hardcore pornography.
Snuff is believed to be one of the bases for the urban legend of snuff

Pardon my asking and I'm sure I'll regret it, but who is Don Simpson?

I remember reading about this man and his "snuff" films when I read a book that touched on it a while ago. Always thought it was ironic that he died the way he did.

Scott has a great article on him plus I started a Don Simpson thread a while ago. He was a real prince though---a true one of a kind.

    Journalist and snuff films

I had been trying to find this- Journalist Yaron Svoray who wrote the book 'Gods of Death'

Yaron Svoray is an Israeli author and investigative journalist whose six-month infiltration of Germany's neo-Nazi groups was documented in his book In Hitler's Shadow, co-written with Nick Taylor. The investigation brought Svoray into contact with key neo-Nazi leaders, his book revealed a surprisingly large network of seemingly normal middle-class citizens who subscribe to the Nazi platform of racial hatred and superiority, anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial. In addition Svoray discovered several instances of police collaboration with the extremists. Furthermore, there was evidence that the German groups had managed to forge links with similar groups in South America and the United States.
Svoray's book "In Hitler's Shadow" was later adapted into a 1995 HBO special, The Infiltrator, starring Oliver Platt as Svoray.
To the general public Svoray is probably best known for his hunt of Nazi era diamonds. Svoray's search was documented on the History Channel's special "Blood from a Stone".
Svoray also wrote the book "Gods of Death" with screenwriter Thomas Hughes, published in 1997 by Simon & Schuster. The book is a lightly dramatized account of Svoray's hunt for the source of and sense behind the snuff film he saw while writing his first book. Svoray presented himself as a middleman first for buyers and then for dealers of snuff films, trying to fake his way into the highly secretive industry, at several points running afoul of the Russian mob in Israel and various criminal organizations in the US and Southeast Asia

Katey Sagal's Dad, a director named Boris Sagal, also had his head taken off by a copter her in Oregon. For someone who is such a funny person, Katey has had some real tragedies in her life. She also lost a baby right before it was due to be born.
