Can't say I've ever heard from her but winning two Oscars is a feat...or it was back then. It's just a shame it hindered her as well.
RIP.
I thought she'd live forever. I wish she had.

All I can think of is No Way! It's so weird that she died at the end of the year when everybody has her on their death list.
I really thought she'd outlast all of us.
Absolutely wonderful as O-Lan in "The Good Earth".
RIP
She had an interesting life and acting career. RIP
Sad to hear about her death.
But she must of had a great long famous life.
Carolyn(1958-2009) always in my heart.
I've said it before and I'll say it again ... and Zsa Zsa lives !!!!!!
Seriously, you have to watch Luise's interview that's part of "MGM As The Lion Roars". She describes how she wanted out of her MGM contract, and Mayer told her "We made you a star and we're going to destroy you". She calmly replied that (if her movie career was indeed over) she'd return to the stage and that "twenty years from now I'll still have a career" (since there were still good stage roles for 40ish actresses) but that Mayer (already an old man) would be dead !! I've read that she lived in the same flat that Vivien Leigh died in, wonder if Luise died there, or in hospital, etc.
Her voice and mannerisms were very similar to Meryl Streeps', so it's a shame that she didn't have a more patient will that might have gotten her more roles (interspersed with much dreck, naturally) deserving of her talent. Watch her in The Great Ziegfeld and you'll see what I mean.
I was thinking about her a couple of months ago, and thought she will go on forever. Bless her, such a great lady and talent. RIP
I remember that last pic from the all-to-short interview she did with Bob Osbourne. If I have to mention one critique of TCM (and there are others) it would be that a 10 or 15 minute sit-down with any celeb is an insult to the audience.
I saw TCM had a solo tribute to Luise Rainer this morning. Segment seemed to be about three minutes long.
