Shooting on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, ON, Canada

There's been a shooting on Parliament Hill in the Canadian capital of Ottawa. Shots were fired at the War Memorial (Canada's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier), the Hall of Honor inside the Parliament building and at Rideau Centre Mall. According to current reports, the soldier standing guard at the War Memorial and one of the gunmen are both dead. Nearly all of downtown Ottawa is on lockdown and the police are going door-to-door.

I just read about this on yahoo. My condolences to the Family of the Soldier killed. Glad they shot down the mad dog that did this. They were about to vote on stepping up surveillance of suspicious foreign nationals that may be tied in with terrorist groups. Long overdue. Bet they do a tighten up on security at Parliament. Will be interesting to find out the perp's name.

Mr. Vickers, the Sgt at Arms, was able to take down the shooter in the Parliament building.

Who is Michael Zehaf-Bibeau? Was he acting alone? And what was his motive?
The man, reportedly born in 1982, was named as the gunman behind the deadly attacks on Parliament Hill on Wednesday.
He was killed in a gunfight in the hallways of Parliament.

Two U.S. officials told Reuters Zehaf-Bibeau was Canadian born and a convert to Islam.

Seems the crazy hasn't ceased in Canada. A friend of mine stated that Halifax City Hall went into lockdown due to reports of someone with a gun in the downtown area. Seems like when it rains, it pours.

Cool vid and a very nice gesture from the Penguins. Jeff Jimerson has a good voice.

A heroes welcome for the Sgt at Arms. A good guy with a gun, stopping a bad guy with a gun.

the killer's mother (Susan Bibeau) is well educated with a high level government position here in Canada. Must be tough to have created a monster.

US sports teams always have so much class when it comes to others in need of support. And despite the fact that I'm a Bruins fan, hats off to Pittsburgh for a great gesture of solidarity.

I went home to Hamilton tonight, I wanted to be in my hometown when they brought him home. Amazing turnout of people of all ages for this selfless young man who served our country. I just wanted to be there to say thank you, and God Bless you. Click image for larger version.

I went to Cpl Cirillo's armoury on my lunch hour as I work just a couple blocks away from it.
I took some pictures of the memorials out front but I am having a heck of a time uploading them. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow.

Anyway, it was very surreal, a very sombre and yet supportive vibe through the whole area

I'll get down there on Saturday to see all the tributes and support his regiment. The support from everyone down at City Hall was very moving and emotional. This is a hometown boy.

That's a very good point. Rightwing racist scum like Prime Minister
Stephen Harper would make any excuse to win the next Federal election.

Sadly even over a body of our brave soldier.
