    Rik Mayall

I was very shocked to get the news alert just now informing me that Rik Mayall has died at the age of 56.

Alongside many uk comedies he also starred in a Drop Dead Fred and appeared in the films Carry On Columbus and American Werewolf in London.

Oops I didn't see this thread earlier.

I'm shocked and very saddened by Rik's passing. Drop Dead Fred is one of my favorite childhood movies. RIP.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I LOVE Rik!! I loved The Young Ones. I loved Drop Dead Fred.

I just saw this on Facebook. How sad. That is too young. I wonder how he died.

I was reading a few years ago about how he and Ade Edmonson had ended their comedy partnership. I don't know if they had a falling out or if it was because of Jennifer Saunder's (Adrian's wife) cancer or what but they made a damn great team.

I just found out and am surprised at how shocked I was at hearing it.

After he survived the earlier accident, I figured the guy was invincible.

I don't care what any of the comedy snobs said, the guy was hilarious in comedy and surprisingly good at the straight acting he did too yet now they will all come out of the woodwork lamenting about how great he truly was.

    Rest in peace Rik.

Not yet. Paramedics were called to his London home at lunch time. Sounds unexpected.
I know he had epilepsy following the quad bike crash - perhaps seizure?

Completely shocked. Loved him in Young Ones and Drop Dead Fred. He was supposed to play Peeves in Harry Potter but it ended up on the cutting room floor. Would have loved to see him in the movie as a poltergeist

    Rest in Peace.

I didn't see this one coming. I remember when he started as "Kevin Turvey" in "Kick up the Eighties" then going on to "The Young Ones, Filthy Rich" etc. Ade Edmundson said that since Rik's quadbike accident that he was awkward to work with, and that they were getting too old to carry on doing the slapstick work that they were famous for. I'm not sure that was the full reason, anyway it's a sad sad day, he was a very funny man and shaped my sense of humour.

Wow. I am so sad to learn of this. My friends and I loved the Young Ones. We'd get together on Sunday nights to watch it. Good memories and Rick helped create those memories.

I just saw that too .I wonder if the run had anything to do with it ? quite a few people have heart attacks after running .Strain on the heart if it was already under stress ?

ID:	50918Rik Mayall's fans have been asked for their "thoughts and prayers" on Thursday when his family hold his funeral.
The comedian's widow Barbara said: "Knowing the swell of love you all share with us we would like to let you, the fans, know that we will be having a private family funeral for Rik, as I am sure you will understand.
"We will be burying him at 2pm on Thursday, June 19 if you would like to join us in thoughts and prayer at this time.
"Thank you again for all your love and support to all our family, it brings great strength."
A memorial service for the star, who died last week aged 56, is expected to be held in September.

I agree with both Ade's face and the coffin. Ade looks just devastated. Those are some great pictures though. Loved seeing the guys from TYO. I wonder if Christopher Ryan was there? Seems to be some comments about people smiling in photos... I don't know what funerals they've been to but it's going to happen sometimes, sheesh, especially when people are first coming together. I'm sure they were more somber during the service but even then I am sure someone told a story or two that made people laugh.
