Paul Katz - Mafia Suspect in JFK Airport Lufthansa Heist

The remains of mafia member Paul Katz were found last year in the home of Jimmy "the Gent" Burke.

An indictment was issued today for Vincent Asaro and four other members of the Bonnano crime family, charging them with the Lufthansa robbery at JFK, made famous in the movie "Goodfellas". Amazing they kept this secret for so many years. Asaro had been charged with the murder of Katz.

The elder Asaro was charged in the murder of Paul Katz, whose remains were found last year during an FBI dig at a house once occupied by James “Jimmy the Gent” Burke. Burke, a late Lucchese crime family associate, planned the Lufthansa heist and was known for burying victims of mob hits in familiar places.

Burke owned Robert’s Lounge, the saloon that a fellow Lucchese associate, the late Henry Hill, described as Burke’s private cemetery. “Jimmy buried over a dozen bodies ... under the bocce courts,” Hill wrote in his book, A Goodfella’s Guide to New York.
Burke was the one who allegedly planned the Lufthansa heist. He was the character played by Robert DeNiro in the movie.

I loved the movie Goodfellas. One of my favorites. The heist was in 1978. Wow, I was born in 1977. So a 35 year old crime is going to be prosecuted.

Correction: Paul Katz was killed in 1969, before the Luftansa heist. He was killed by one of the masterminds of the heist.

Paul Katz was killed because he was thought to be an informant working with police.

yeah, the FBI are probably still stinging from this one... no matter how much time goes by they want it known in the history books that these people didn't get away with it.

I was wondering that. Did I read correctly that they dug him up and moved him to Burke's house because they were spooked?
