Technically you can't balance it when you receive more than you spend, either. But your statement was correct, whether you're talking about republicans or democrats.

It is portayed as a successful comeback for detroit. The company was bailed out, then bankrupt, the sold the majority interest to an Italian company. Thats a success story? It is sad when the population knows so little about business to realize the real winner here isn't even american.

On top of that it was political. The whole "second half" reference was obviously pro-Obama second term. You shouldn't take money from the taxpayers. screw them with bankruptcy, and then have the audacity to spend 14 million on a political ad. Am I overthinking this?
    Nope, not at all.

How were they held hostage? They had the office of president, plus had house and senate. If they didn't want to extend the cuts, they wouldn't have. The fact is they extended them, so that little ordeal is no longer on Bush.

Exactly. The democrats realized that ending the cuts would have adversely affected the recovery much more than it would have been helped by the increase in revenues. The democrats can't say that because the majority of their voting block would disagree.

Ask the American workers in Detriot making cars still for Chrysler if it was successful. They must be the subway riding elitist that Newt speaks of.

Jefe, ofcourse the workers are happy and I am happy for them, seriously. But the fact remains that the overall value of the transaction is a net loss for America and what looks like the bulk of a wise investment for a foreign company. If it is represented that way, well fine. To paint it like it is as american as apple pie is a lie.

IMHO, the bailouts of GM and Chrysler were the right thing to do. It saved who knows how many of jobs, and the two certainly seem to have bounced back.

Yes, I think this is ueberthunk.

The ad is not blatantly political. His Serene Ruggedness says so himself. He is not an Obama endorser and his political leanings are entirely different. At last report, he self-identifies as a Libertarian and likes Ron Paul. He has enough money to walk away from any ad he doesn't want to do.

I understood the "second half" reference to pertain to Chrysler's new "lease on life". OK, actually they are on their third or fourth life, are they not?

Even if it is political, corporations are people and have a right to free speech - the US Supreme Court said so! There is nothing keeping any conservative-run corporation, say Halliburton, from running its own equally "political" commercial proclaiming that the game is nearly lost and it is time for a change.

Conservative strategists are just overly sensitive and/or miffed that they got outmanuvered on this one.

Don't worry - there's still the Stanley Cup and the NBA Championship.

Clint Eastwood is a known conservative monetary supporter. I have several friends who are die-hard conservatives who liked the message in the commercial. Glass half empty, glass half full. It's all how you look at it. Both sides could say it was slanted to their way IMHO

The ad was by Chrysler, for its UAW union workers. America didn't come together like th ad portrays. Obama with a swipe of a pen came together for us, he took MY money, your money and every other taxpayer money to bail out his union thug friends. Hush hush that GM still owes us over 28 billion dollars. Who knows how much Chrysler owes us. Obama didn't give my courier business a bailout when they filed bankruptsy and folded, thus laying me and sum 1200 other people off. Which is why ill never buy a new GM or Chrysler product. Ford is the only company I will buy now. They refused my money.

I love how people want to blame no one but Bush. Bush had a democratic majority house and senate, and stuff went to crap. Obama is elected and also has the democratic majority, and nothing changes, yet people still want to blame Bush. I mean, really? I despise Obama, but I know that he is only doing what house and senate allow him to do. Look back to when Obama had the super majority, they continued to pass and extend the same things that Bush passed and extended. Wake up people, the problem with this country is NOT the office of the POTUS.

As I remember the original idea of creating the tarp program was to buy toxic debt. Or foreclosed on homes.
The program was exployted. Obama bailed not only big banks, but car companies, took over the student loan programs and others so they wouldn't go under. It was a gross misuse of funds and I'm sure is somehow not legal. Many companies go bankrupt and still function during the reorgination process. Airlines , kmart, ect have gone broke and survived. The auto bailouts were clearly to appise his union friends. Gm and Mopar could have survived as a company without tax money. We are in these for the long haul. I have my doubts gm or chrysler will ever repay the people.

As people have said already, the bailouts were Bush's plan. Obama finished them, and Bush says he would do it again. Stop acting like it was Obama and Obama alone.

Chrysler got bailed out and still went bankrupt. You could have taken that money and flushed it down the toilet and have been no worse for wear.

I think the bailouts for the most part were a bad idea regardless of whose idea they were. I'm not acting like anything.

I quoted Forever-27, and my comment was aimed at him. He's been corrected before, but continues to say the bailouts were all Obama's fault.

The bailout of the banks and AIG were pretty necessary. Letting Lehman Brothers go bankrupt was a big mistake.

There you go again - using facts to spoil a perfectly good narrative.

So you are saying that by initiating TARP and the bailouts that Bush did something illegal?

Somehow not legal LOL. It was passed through Congress. The politicians, who are the lawmakers, made a law (
Public Law 110-343). That makes it legal. Just check the date that TARP was passed (October 3, 2008), and the date of Obama's inauguration (January 20, 2009) if you have any doubts about who put it through.

Hank Paulson, the Secretary of the Treasury, and his team under President Bush, was the father of TARP and the bailouts. It was originally going to be TARP alone, but it would have taken months to get money flowing through the financial system. They needed a quicker way to make money available to the banks so as they could provide credit. So, in respect to the banks, they nationalised (Republican
term for it) / did a bail-out (Democrat term for it). I believe they did the right thing.

Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac were 'nationalised / bailed out' by Bush way before TARP was passed into law btw.

Even the Canadian's are calling him out

Could history’s greatest Republic be suffering total amnesia over the Founder’s conviction that religion is a sacrosanct zone outside of governmental authority? You’d think so, given the Obama administration’s decision to force Believers to provide birth control against conviction.

The Democrat’s sinister cabal, in typical Marxist fashion, clumsily politicizes yet another area of American freedom. We observe, again, the inevitable, serious-as-a-heart-attack, yet trite socialist power-grab.

    ???

Rushing to end a political uproar,President Barack Obama on Friday will announce that religious employers will not have to cover birth control for their employees after all, The Associated Press has learned. The administration instead will demand that insurance companies will be the ones directly responsible for providing free contraception.

Health insurance plans must cover birth control as preventive care for women.

Also to be covered without copays are breast pumps for nursing mothers, an annual "well-woman" physical, screening for the virus that causes cervical cancer and for diabetes duringpregnancy, counseling on domestic violence, and other services.

More than 90 million prescriptions for contraceptives were dispensed in 2009, according the market analysis firm INS health. Generic versions of the pill are available for as little as $9 a month. Still, about half of all pregnancies are unplanned. Many are among women using some form of contraception, and forgetting to take the pill is a major reason.

Jesus! Them damn newfies are running their mouths again! (I'm Canadian. I'm allowed to make that joke)

I understand that it's a slippery slope, but this issue grates on me so badly. The Catholic Church has done so much irreparable damage with it's positions on contraceptives. I think no matter who you work for, you should be able to get birth control at a discounted price or free. I never believed that God intended sex to be solely for procreation or that he didn't want us to take control and plan our lives responsibly.

I'm a believer, believe me, but I think it's time we fucked with religion a little. But then again, I get called a fascist and a government controlled robot a lot.

I suppose either way, it's a non issue now that the insurers are directly responsible. I however would have told the Catholic church to stuff it when they whined.
You can't "nu uh" death. That's bad debating.

Again with the Marxism and the Socialism. ROFL. Have you ever lived in or near a real Marxist or Socialist country or known someone who experienced it from the inside?

They say Obama is starting a Truth Team to combat Republican lies. I want to be on it.

After I watched "Primary Colors" the other night with my son the budding leftist political operative, I had a dream about me and Kathy Bates' character.

So I wrote a little song (with apologies to one Mr. Richard Starkey and all octopi everywhere):

    I’d like to be
    On the TV
As a dustbuster for Obama in O’12
    We’d get the scoop
    On Mitt and Newt
And bring back tons of folders for the shelf

    Kathy and me
    A fact-finding spree
In a pickup with a shotgun on the rack
    And a revolver in
    The door liner bin
And everywhere we’d have Obama’s back

    [Refrain]
We’re experts in both vice and sin
And the evil that lurks in the hearts of men
(Lurking in the hearts of men)
The Shadow knows, and so do we
Just who you are and also where you’ve been.

    We’d ride along
    And sing a song
With crates of beer in back just for good luck
    We ride from sea
    To shining sea
And tell Republicans who they can fuck.

We’re experts in both vice and sin
And the evil that lurks in the hearts of men
(Lurking in the hearts of men)
The Shadow knows, and so do we
Just who you are and also where you’ve been.

I guess it's not very radio-friendly what with the F-bomb in there and all. But I'm an artist, like Ceelo, I keeps it real that way!

Obama chatting with George H. W. Bush and Jeb Bush. The former president was heard to say, "Barry, we just stopped by to say hello. Don't forget now...Jeb's been selected to succeed you next year so try to put on a good show for the folks."

And here is why. What Obama was trying to do was unconstitutional.

The birth-control coverage mandate violates the First Amendment's bar against the "free exercise" of religion. But it also violates the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. That statute, passed unanimously by the House of Representatives and by a 97-3 vote in the Senate, was signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1993. It was enacted in response to a 1990 Supreme Court opinion,
    Employment Division v. Smith

They say Obama is starting a Truth Team to combat Republican lies. I want to be on it.

Most people throwing the terms Marxism and Socialism around do not have a CLUE as to what it really means.

And I wish Obama would start a truth team, but those in fear will always listen to the fearmongers no matter what common sense tells us.

Changing gears, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff says that Iran is "a rational actor, not after nukes" which is contradictory to administration and MSM rhetoric:

Long story short, wish we could trade our Prime Minister
    Stephen Harper of Canada.
With one US President Barack Obama.

Who knows, one can only wish.

Truth team? HA! Completely impossible for any politician. If they want a "Truth team" then they would have to call it the "Spin things to make Obama look good team".

    Well, actually, no, not impossible.

Remember that at the same time you are digging up dirt on the other guy (actually, the polite name for this is "opposition research" ), you are also vetting your guy so that your oppponents don't take you by surprise.

On Monday's "Daily Show", Jon Stewart interviewed two guys, Alan Huffman & Michael Rejebian, who are real opposition researchers and have written a new book called "We're With Nobody".

    How right you are.

By the same token, if the President was assassinated in broad daylight on live TV, Donald Trump would be on the next day claiming that the death certificate was a forgery.

The right wingnuts? Probably not so much - they would be too busy dancing in the streets.

I was watching Univision News just a moment ago. They were interviewing a Dominican Republic guy who looked and acted exactly like Obama. He was out walking on a mall with folks lined up right and left. That guy will be lucky if some whackadoodle doesn't mistake him for the real Barry O and throw downl.

Shouldn't you be concentrating on the road? That sums up the Bush Presidency.

Bush supported the OVERALL program. Hell, I support it as well. The problem is not the program but the Obama administrations approval of the Solyndra loan in the face of overwhelming evidence and predictions by his own administration that it would fail, costing the taxpayers 535 Million dollars. He leveraged the risk for political gain and failed. He can't run from that and trying to redirect the issue back on to Bush won't help either.

Speaking of politcal gain, how about this recent nugget.

"On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this can be solved," Obama said. "But it's important for him to give me space.

"This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility."

"I understand," Medvedev responded. "I will transmit this information to Vladimir."

This is the bartering of national security based on a timeline that is preferable to his election asperations. Same thing with Solyndra, the timing was everything.
