    Alan Sues

'Laugh-In' Star Alan Sues Dead at 85
Comedian Alan Sues -- who starred in "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" back in the 70s -- has died, TMZ has learned

Alan -- who also appeared in the infamous 1964 Twilight Zone episode "The Masks" (below) -- passed away last night. So far, a cause of death is unknown.

"Laugh-In" creator George Schlatter tells TMZ, "Alan was a dear man and good friend, and a forcefield of energy and laughs. Every situation he was in added an element of humor and danger because you never knew what he was going to do, but you knew it was going to be funny."

    Alan was 85.

I was once in brief correspondence with him once. I sent him an e-mail and he actually responded. Very cool.

That's such a shame, I always liked him, and wondered what ever became of him. I also would not have taken him to be that old either! 70 maybe. Rest well, Mr. Sues!

    I love you Uncle Al!

This makes me sad. Absolutely adored him. Yeah, didn't realize he was that old too! Just makes me feel old thinking about it.

    RIP Alan.

He's also fondly remembered by those of us of a certain (coff) age as a goofy Peter Pan in a series of peanut butter commercials.

Yes, I remember Alan Sues from Laugh In. The last time I saw him on TV was the Emmy Awards a couple of years ago. He was there to hand out an award with a couple of other Laugh In stalwarts, including Ruth Buzzi. Oddly, I remember him seeing him one time on the Dinah Shore show. He was trying to market inflatable gift cards (?). At least, he beat the life expectancy odds and made it to age 85. Good for him!

Granted that I had never read the actual article I do remember reading in an old copy of TV Guide from the early 70s ( thinking it was 1974 ) in the "letters" section where some viewer from the Bronx had wrote in slamming Alan Sues for calling famous New York City disc jockey Cousin Brucie Morrow a homosexual only because of his use of the "Brucie". Wish I could had read the article to see what was that letter all about. Joke? Was Alan Sues serious? Did Cousin Brucie sue Alan Sues? Guess until I can get my hand on a copy of that TV Guide which BTW old issues are very hard to come by...guess I will never find out.

    I remember those!

Wasn't the mom in films or tv too? Maybe a character actress? I can't quite place her but I think I've seen her in quite a few things.

He was married for a few years in the 1950s to a beautiful Latina dancer named Phyllis who kept his surname after their divorce. Evidently they remained friends, for she now has a blog and interviewed him for it more than 50 years after their divorce.

He also portrayed Professor Moriarty in a Sherlock Holmes play on Broadway in the 1970s. The picture of him in make-up is semi famous; it was considered a masterpiece of shadow and appears in a lot of textbooks on stagecraft and theatre. Strange thing I saw at Target recently. A Vietnam Vet ( he was wearing a Vietman Vet t-shirt ) came in the store and the cashier was named Bruce. I really didn't notice at first but the vet kept saying "YOU CAN SUCK MY DICK" and all sorts of other things at that cashier. Management was called but the vet became louder. After the vet said "Brucie Boy takes it up the ass" the police was called and the vet was escorted out of the Target. As he was leaving the vet then shouted "this is for Alan Sues !!". Of course neither the cops nor the Target management team knew who he was. Hey wait a minute wasn't Sues gay ??

My uncle told me that the names Bruce and Lance equals gay back then. Guess some still believe that as on Family Guy the name of the gay character is Bruce. Younger people would not get it. A lot of this was started on Laugh In.

I thought this kind of stuff only happens at Walmart.
In which case, there should be pictures...

Walmart doesn't care but the other chains sue if one would snap a pic in their stores like Kroger for example.
