Thread: Occupy Wall Street, et al.

I do not take this movement seriously because there is no cogency to it at all.

As a liberal Quaker (that is the name of my religion) I am saddened for wishing for all those kids to get off my lawn of life. But, it is truly just how I feel. The American Friends Service Committee is doing their fair part out of respect for all three different sects of the Religious Society of Friends and I would be astonished if they weren't, I just truly do not want any part of it.

I'm going to go have a shot of Geritol now.

I think its funny how Michael Moore showed up in Oakland to pep talk the ows people. He is the 1%. Aside from his owning stock in Halaburton ....

    details details.

Oakland Mayor Jean quan should probably get canned for actually apoligizing to the occupy Oakland people for kicking them out of the plaza in front of city hall and the police brutality. On any normal night cops boot homeless out of there for illegally camping out on public property , yet they allow the ows to stay and slowly thrash the city plaza

Oh, Halliburton, Prick Cheney's ex-company. Got $35 million of stock options to cash in?

    Evidently your right.

As a mayor you don't kick a group out of a city park yet allow another to stay.

I am not a police lover by any means but come on ... they were told to disperce because it was an unlawful assembly, the demonstraitors refused to ... they cops warned they would make arrests and use tear gas if the gathering didn't end and the protesters didn't leave, again the police were ignored. So the Oakland police made good on their threats . As much as I respect the military service people. The guy was a dumbass. As are all these nutjob demonstraitors. Just because he served does that give him a pass on our laws ? He got what he was asking for. I think. You mess with the bull you get the horns every time.

GLOAT: verb (used without object) 1. to look at or think about with great or excessive, often smug or malicious, satisfaction

You have used this term twice now and I have yet to find one example of anyone gloating. He obviously did not deserve to have his skull broken. He was in a defiant demonstration where tear gas was apparently warranted. Tear gas containers explode, certainly a war veteran knows that and the inherent dangers of being in that proximity.

I tried to find as much video of the incident that I could so I could better understand the circumstances but one thing was missing in all of them, what happenned between the time when first confronted by police and when the canisters start flying. Every video jumps from one to the other leaving what instigated the confrontation out.

If it looks like a goat and sounds like a goat, then it probably is a goat - or a gloat, as the case may be.

A certain amount of happiness was expressed that "those protesters finally got what was coming to them". You will draw your own conclusions.

    Occupy Wallstreet: The Rap Sheet

Quite a distinguished and varied list of crimes from these folks. Most of which I did not know occurred. I'm not posting this link necessarily for the political narrative in the beginning so scroll down if you wish to see the list of crimes and their links.

I'm not sure if anyone listens to Dave Ramsey here, I really like him. Anyway, his article on the subject is a very good one I think:

    Meanwhile in Canada:

So the Occupy Group pretty much given up the ghost in Saskatoon, but they left all their tents and now the homeless have moved in. City bylaws say no camping in the parks, but I have a feeling they'll let them stay for a bit for easy pr.

In Regina they're planning on staying the winter. They're lining their tents. When it hits -40C, I wonder if they'll be so dedicated.

They claimed they'd shut Oakland down tonight. With a march down Broadway and on the the port of Oakland. In this march windows were shattered by some of them, throwing trash cans through Whole Foods Market and three banks in downtown Oakland. Police were and still are nowhere to be found. The port workers are wondering when they will be able to go home. About 20,000 people have swarmed the port entrance. Oakland has the busiest port of the west coast. Many business owners are saying due to the ows they will move out of Oakland. They are suffering due to the demonstrations.

The OWS is largely from the left and is doing real damage. In San Diego a woman who owns a coffee cart downtown had to abandon her little business because she was constantly harrassed by OWS protesters and for health reasons because a huge pool of piss had accumulated around her cart. She became afraid for her life because she was followed home by protesters at night.

Shipmate, I'm sorry but your politcal cluelessness and blind hatred for things that you do not understand has approached epic proportions. I don't understand how you cannot have any sense of equity within your convictions. The only thing that I have a problem with is your politics and it is not because you are a liberal, it is because your are intolerant to the Nth degree.

Can someone enlighten me on this . Is this protest about the rich getting richer and everyone else not ? Is the poor woman with the coffee cart not allowed to make a living ? Are people not allowed to be successful and make a lot of money ? - or is it because the rich need to be taxed more to help others ? (which I honestly thought - and someone please let me know differently , that The US was a country with the attitude of each to its own?) I noticed here in Nottingham they have set up a camp in the city centre , I honestly am getting conflicted stories that the lefties think we should be more socialist ?! (if thats the case they can f88k off !)
What 3rd world country do you live in that doesn't allow 'the gays' to marry ?

Well so far, all I've seen that this OWS movement has done is cause riots, vandalism and looting, give predators prey to rape and molest people, people shitting & pissing on sidewalks and in planters, a reason to party (drink and do drugs), and all the other stuff I keep reading about. What good is this OWS all about then? It just seems to be a pain in the ass and an excuse for "certain" people. I haven't seen any changes over it all - yet.

Let me be specific, when I say you are intolerant I'm speaking politically. In that regard you and I are definately not the same. I examine political topics and ideologies on a case by case basis. I recognize that all republican ideas are not good and all democrat ideas are not bad. That is why I consider myself an independent. Because I am conservative, naturally my votes and my opinions are on the right side of the political spectrum more times then not.

You on the other hand cannot, will not, shall not consider anything remotely close to the right as being worth while. I'm not sure why I care but for some reason I do.

As for OWS, it's now getting out of contol. Breaking bank windows, starting fires...

Well, I am sorry but my opinion of the right is so far in the basement there is no hope of it changing without MAJOR changes coming from the mouthpieces on the right.
You say you can't understand where people get their opinion of the right, all I can say is you are being very selective when it comes to reading material.
The right does not give a DAMN about the people, screw us. They only care about big business.
They are paranois, racist and narrow mnded toname just a few of their "attributes"

I am truly sorry that someone showed you a flawed theory that changed your political leaning, seems like a flimsy reason to ME.

OWS is out of hand, but people are PISSED OFF
And they are pissed off at Wall street and corporations.

What part of that do you not understand?

Where did I ever say someone showed me anything? I was a democrat right up until I had kids, got a college degree and started working in the business world. Through these experiences I quickly learned that conservativism was much more conducive to collective success then liberalism.

If you want to know which part of OWS I don't understand feel free to read back over this thread, I'm tired of repeating myself.

First, I read EVERYTHING and I watch EVERYTHING. I watch Chris Mathews and Rachel Maddow more then I do Bill Oreilly or listen to Rush. Why? Because I already know what Bill and Rush think.

"The right does not give a DAMN about the people, screw us. They only care about big business."

This statement is just ignorant. The only thing true in it is that the right cares about big business. Actually, they care about all business and thats because business is what makes a country and the people prosperous. The government never made anyone a living except for the people it employs and they are paid from funds recieved by people who work in business. See how this goes? No business, no economy, no people.

As far as racism is concerned, if this was true how do you explain a black man being the front runner for the GOP right now?

If you can dig up that quote I will eat my hat. I never attributed my politcal beliefs to any one event. I did have a radical political science professor who forced me to sit through Roger an Me by Michael Moore which wasn't helpful.

I found it interesting, the old routunda building at 16th and broadway in Oakland. was sparedthe violence. Its inside has eleborate paintings on the walls and a huge brass door with etched glass carved with swans and things. Idiot protestors shattered the glass on the door and tried getting inside. Only after the owner cocked his shotgun from inside did the 15 or so people leave.

The place was built in 1898.

What's sad is that obama has said nothing about condemng the happenings in Oakland with the property loss and violence. But sure as hell he will come out for his 35000 dollar per plate fund raisers in San Francisco, just eight miles across the bay

LOL!!!! I still love this part!

"The family’s problems have created another concern for the ‘Occupy Dallas’ organizers. CBS 11 News has learned that the campers are so unhappy with their current conditions that organizers are planning to temporarily move the protest in hopes that local homeless and squatters will leave the movement.

    Hypocritical, much?

Hey now, they worked hard to set that camp up- putting all those man hours in to make sure that the protesters have support- food, heat, a place to stay. Why should they have to share all that with people who didn't lift a finger to pitch in?

Wow Duster, you sure told me . . . I'm not sure exactly what, but you definitely told me.
Is this all the presence the liberal media could muster? It looks like a bunch of interns on a camping trip. Where are ABC and CBS, or did they have their own tents? No NBC Evening News with Brian Williams? No NPR? I don't even see the CBC logo anywhere in this picture. There is a curious orb above the prodigious schnozz of the wizard on the right - could be the ghost of Peter Jennings.

ITA that letting Mother Nature have her way is a much better tactic than riot batons and tear gas - let them eat snow.
