A personal question for Scott Michaels

Scott, We've seen you and some of your death collectibles. You have some really great items in your collection.
What is the 1 thing you would love to own if you can get your hands on it?
Have you ever bought anything for your collection or only what you find?

I bought the tile from the pool that Brian Jones drowned in, and I bought my piece of the Hindenburg waaaay back in the early 80's. If I could own anything - it would definitely be one of the artifacts from the Tate/LaBianca murders. I know people are probably bored with me prattling on about that. Someone sold the window frame that Oswald shot JFK through, that would have been a good one. The hood ornament from Diana's Mercedes... I can think of lots!

Scott you had me at Hindeburg. Being a Jersey boy from what I hear you can get a temporary pass to go on the base and see where it crashed. Theres even rumors there are still some pieces of it on the groung. I have an envelope that was hand cancelled on board the maiden voyage of Hindenburg.
Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.
I only have one thing you would call a Death Collectible. I own a Silver Dollar from the hoard of Ted Binion who burried his stuff in the dessert and the guy who built his safe and Binions wife murdered him. (Just in case anyone who reads this doesn't know).
Jason I friggin love the toilet seat idea. I know for years they've been selling toe nail clippings they found at Graceland and say they're Elvis's.

I would love to have the cigarette case given to Lana Turner from Frank Sinatra listed on Cheryl Cranes' Ebay list, but alas....I'm poor and her prices are way over the top. Wonder what she would get for the knife she used to stab Johnny Stompanato??

I know I'm not Scott, but I think it would be cool to own something that belonged to Jeffrey Dahmer... I believe Ed Gein's car is still around.

I can't remember where I read it, the house that has been kept exactly as it was when the murders occurred in it... I don't know, it was back in the 50s or something. The person who owns the house just leaves it like that, nobody lives there.

Anything from a really bad crime scene. I'm still planning on going over and taking photos of where this woman and her unborn baby were horrendously murdered.

There are two houses in which the whole family was murdered, within days apart, by the same assailants.

Blah... blah... blah... Ok, I'll stop there.

Oh cool! Thanks for that, Jersey.

Gein's headstone is missing, huh. Wonder what's up with that. Maybe just a case of thieves or...? Anybody know? Yeah, I could Google it but I'd rather hear the dirt from somebody here. We hags are so well-informed and usually know the shit from shinola like that.

Oh yeah, Marilyn's phone would be amazing. Elvis's toilet seat? Yeah, I'd take it. I had one of the munchkins from the wizard of oz use my toilet once, I regret not keeping the seat.

WOW the Dahmer signiture was amazing enough but to own a Gacy painting? If memory serves me correctly didn'y one guy buy alot of Gacy's clown paintings and burn them
That would mean there's not a whole bunch left or maybe you have one of a handfol not destroyed by this guy.

During his time on Death Row, Gacy took up oil painting, and his favorite subject was painting portraits of clowns. He claimed to have used his clown act as an alter ego, once sardonically saying that "A clown can get away with murder." After his execution, his paintings were sold at auction. Reportedly, the main buyer destroyed the paintings after winning the bids. [3] Another of his famous paintings is of transgressive punk rock singer/songwriter/performance artist GG Allin, who had visited Gacy in prison and corresponded with him until Allin's death in 1993; the painting is in the possession of Allin's brother and bassist, Merle Allin, and a black and white reproduction of the painting can be seen on the front cover of the soundtrack to the GG Allin documentary Hated: GG Allin And The Murder Junkies. Also, the satirical Church of the SubGenius has a drawing in its archives of its figurehead, the image of J.R. "Bob" Dobbs, which it states was drawn and signed by Gacy [4].

Yeah I was just looking at the stuff that Lana's daughter has listed on Ebay. Nice stuff but yes, very expensive for the more unusual items.

I would love to own anything that belonged to Marilyn and of course, Rudolph Valentino. Anything that belonged to him goes for an arm and a leg. I would really love to own the slave bracelet that meant so much to him that his wife Natacha had made for him, but he is wearing that in his coffin right now....

Out of Anthony Summers book, Goddess. You are not alone, even though it's been part of my sig for years, only one person has ever noticed it and asked "Isn't that MMs number?" And so you don't have to wonder who.....it was the wonderful all knowing Kelt.

While I can see that even insignificant pieces of Lanas' jewelery collection are worth the price just for the fact they were Lanas', it would be nice of Cheryl to make some of it more affordable than $100 for a $5 pair of plastic earrings.
And even though I'm not near the Rudy fan you are, I'd consider doing some unsavory act to own that bracelet you speak of too!!

This is really reaching, I guess, on the like to have deal, but I would love to live in (The Crow) Eric Draven and Shelly Webster's loft in Detroit, Mich. It's a lot too dark for my taste, but it has that neat attic where they slept and that giant portal that the thugs tossed him out of. Haha.

I know Silver dollars and other coins from the Binion Collection were on EBAY but in all honesty I haven't looked in a while.
I know that a while back they recovered alot of 1 ounce Silver coins "Eagles" from the World Trade Center. Those have a special holder

that says WTC recovered. EBAY has Titanic Coal and there was a very famous old ship they recovered alot of items for. That ship has
been written about in books "Ship of Gold in the deep blue sea." A ship called the S,S Central America.
Heres a really great Vegas story back in the 50's and 60's there was a guy by the name of LaVere Redfield he used to buy Silver Dollars
at face value from the casinos. To look at this guy you'd think he was homeless.
What he did was hide bags and bags of the Silver Dollars behind a false wall in his house with a note to anyone who found them not to tell the IRS.
Guess who was doing a walk thru his house after he died when the weight of all those Silver Dollars collapsed the false wall. Note and all came out.

You know Kiwi I would love to have a calander or something signed by Mr Michaels.
I don't know if I'll ever make it to California but I would be very nervous about meeting him.
I consider him a celebrity and alot of times I get so star struck and so tongue tied I would
hate myself if I were to say anything really stupid. I have alot of respect for what Scott does
and theres times you're just plain afraid to meet someone who you look up to so much.
Sometimes when you think of something to say the translation comes out SOOOO different and you make an ass out of yourself.
The only semi-successful encounter I ever had with a celeb was at a book signing of Meat Loaf.
I had rehearsed something in my mind I was trying to say and it actually came out right, he did a double take directly at me
and the radio station representative standing behind him I thought he was going to fall over from laughing so hard.
Those star sightings that ever went well are very few and far between.
Whenever I do order something it will be thru the mail and I'll just ask him to sign it so I don't make an ass out of myself.

Hi Jersey, I went to school inside Lakehurst's hangar one for two months, They cleaned up all Hindenburg's debris but there's great tours given by the NLHS staff twice a month. Reservations must be made 2 weeks in advance for security reasons. That hangar creeps the shit out of me, sailors graduating before me told of haunting, and there are plenty of noises in there to get your mind going. I also have a first day Hindenburg cover with nice stamps.

Klopek, I've never been to Lakehurst but it does sound cool and I always thought that it was a little fishy that people were still finding pieces after all these years. I always wanted to go to the Wright Brothers Museum, then I saw some film of it and I think I'll stay here.
I bought my Hindenburg Envelope which was hand stamped on board the Hindenburg on it's maiden voyage. I bought it many years ago at a stamp show. I saw the exact same thing cheaper at another table but the guy completely ignored me so I bought the more expensive one I think I paid a little over $20 for it I looked them up on EBAY and I saw them going for over $100 now that's sick.
Don't know if you've ever heard about them but they have envelopes that were flown by Charles Lindburg. They have a rubber stamp in the shape of a large horse shoe and it says Lindburg again flies the mail.
I picked up an aitmail envelope from South America I think. It didn't say anything I paid like 8 bucks for it so I go home. look up the route (C.A.M.) numer and Lucky Lindy flew that one too. I advertized it on EBAY as a Lindy cover and I got multiples of what I paid for it. Sometimes I get lucky.

That's cool. I paid $80 for mine on ebay like 10yrs ago but they all have different prices depending on condition etc.. I like the Lindy story, good for you. Here's the Link for Lakehurst:

I own two of my dream collectibles: I have rehearsal scripts from the Great Gildersleeve and The Jimmy Durante show complete with pencilled in notations and changes. They came from the estate of one of the writers for both shows and are signed. (would have been great if they had been signed by the stars of the show too!) I also have an autographed photo of Phil Harris that one of my profs gave me. His mother actually met Harris in the 40's and got the autograph and when she died, he was sorting through her stuff and remembered that I was a radio nerd.

I would kill to have anything of Kate Hepburn's.

and the radio station representative standing behind him I thought he was going to fall over from laughing so hard.
Those star sightings that ever went well are very few and far between.
Whenever I do order something it will be thru the mail and I'll just ask him to sign it so I don't make an ass out of myself.
meatloaf did a concert here in nz in 2004 and i was lucky enough to be working security for it and i did back of stage and got to meet the great man himself, he was munching out on minties (a minty lolly thing) and i laughed and said they were my favourite lolly, and low and behold, he gave me one, i treasured that thing like it was from god himself, then my bf found it in my jewellry box and ate it :O i was so damn mad at him lmfao

and i worked at the Big Day Out which is an awesome concert once a year here in nz and got to meet metallica in 2004 as well, i have loved them since 1984 lol and my boss called me over and told them i was a huge fan and i got to shake james hetfields hand and i just stammered and blurted out would he like to come home with me lol, he laughed his ass off and said if he was staying longer he might have lol, i ended up seeing them a couple days later surfing at a beach called ruapuke which is near where i live, and he called out my name and i turned around and nearly fainted cause i was in my scungy fishing clothes lol, he asked to see my catch and i showed it to him and he asked me to take him out to the rock that i do my fishing from and he said he never seen a chick fish off such a dangerous place lol, i told him i had been fishing there for 20 years and quite often take my little stereo out and have metallica blasting off the rock lol

he ended up signing my fishing shirt and my chillybin and ive never used them since but i was a blithering idiot when i first met him cause we dont get huge stars like that in nz very often and here he was chattin away to me like we were mates lol

if i ever get the chance to go on the tour with scott ill be filming the whole thing just going gaga at scott lol i love hearing his voice and just think he is amazing lol

    Hindenburg "covers"

I know it's getting a little off topic but I just wanted to share my Hindenburg "Covers". These were air mail on the Hindenburg in happier times ( before dreams of air travel by airship went up in smoke).
One was from Germany to Lakehurst, N.J. the other from Lakehurst to Germany.
Trivia: Lakehurst is North America's first international airport.

My eyes are really getting bad so I just have a question for you. The top one I recognize the large stamp. Isn't that the maiden voyage rubber stamp?
That large rubber stamp is on the cover I own from the maiden voyage and hand cancelled on board the Hindenburg.
What really gets me is that the ones from the maiden voyage are the only ones I've ever seen and not the "regular" mail that was carried on board at a later time. Both of these are great. I know you collect Ocean liner stuff but when you say cover who doesn't know the lingo they automatically think of blanket and I don't mean MJ's son.
I looked on EBAY before at the Lindbergh stuff and I actually saw a cover from Mexico flown on the Spirit of St Louis. Me I don't give a crap about stamps I love flight covers and covers with business addresses on the return address (ad covers). I love the oceanliner stuff also but due to my limited resources I either stick with military ships and cruise ships but in postcard forms (love Canal Zone).

Hi Jersey, If you keep clicking on the attachments they zoom in pretty good, if not you can use the magnification box on the toolbar at the bottom of your screen (windows). You're too funny--MJ Blanket.lol Ishould start a collectibles thread if there's not already one on here. Yeah, I have have some Andrea Doria stuff, ashtrays, luggage tags, brochure before she was built. My fave is the S.S. France ashtray shaped as a funnel- you leave a cigarette in the tray and smoke comes out the wingtip funnel top. I got it years ago on ebay and last saw one on a Christies auction for $1,200-I paid $50. My Hindenburgs are both maiden I think round trip.
There's money to be made but you have to be carefull, one guy tried to sell tickets of the Andrea Doria fateful voyage but I knew the dates were wrong.
Here's a good link to Hindenburg covers: http://www.airships.net/zeppelin-mail/hindenburg-covers

Thanks for the enlarging advise. It worked. I love stuff like that. There isn't that many blimp/zepplin/airship stuff out there and there is such a strong collector base for anything airship.

This is a little Goodyear Blimp charge coin I picked up at a show this afternoon.
A dealer and everybody at his table went bat shit over it. I hope it does well on EBAY.

Scott, have you ever had a 'ghostly' encounter on your tour or during your research? I remember you saying you had a strange experience at James Dean's tomb. Any others?
