I was never a big fan but I've been listening to Hot Tuna lately. Long story......I don't know why I did not know this until now.....Jorma Kaukonen has a guitar camp just over a half hour from me.

    https://www.furpeaceranch.com/

A friend of mine tells me about it and tells me he knows Jorma. Anyway, there is a very small restaurant there, they specialize in Pho. They are only open two days a week for two hours and they have entertainment for one hour. I invited this friend to go last week. (The Pho is good) Jorma entertained. Sat there for an hour playing for us. Did amazing covers of "All Along the WatchTower" and "Sugaree" among others. I watched this guy realizing he had been and seen everything. Montery Pop Festival. Woodstock. He helped organize and put together Altamont. He was the Summer of Love. He ended with "This Land is Your Land" and had everyone sing along. It was a bit surreal.

Anyway, this fall I'm putting together a concert to raise money for the local high school band to buy new drums. My earlier mentioned friend is one of the artists playing that night. I planned ahead and took a Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna album with me. I told my friend it would be cool if I could get Jorma to sign them to auction them off for our benefit.

So we've ate, Jorma finishes and my friend tells me to come with him. He goes up to Jorma and sure enough, Jorma welcomes him, gives him a hug and says it had been awhile. He told Jorma about our benefit and asked him to sign our records. He was very, very gracious and happily signed them. We get to look around his art museum. Some really cool pictures and artifacts. The coolest being the 8-10 pics of an unknown Jorma in 1962 accompanying an unknown singer named Janis Joplin. She was so young looking. It was pretty amazing and I've been getting more into his stuff lately.

My 15 year old daughter plays bass guitar and Jack Casady is supposed to be there later in the year. I will be going and will take her. (I took her to see Leland Sklar a couple months ago). She may not appreciate it now but will later.

As for me, I'm currently listening to You're No Good by Linda Ronstadt. I was watching a Eagles doc and heard some of her songs. It's a shame her voice is gone now as she blows most of the singers today out of the water.

Been "rediscovering" a lot of old stuff lately - Chris Isaak, Glen Campbell, etc.
Robbie Robertson was the lead guitar player and primary songwriter for The Band - an awesome guitarist.
He released a solo album in the late 80's - he's still kicking as of 2011:

He's done some great stuff - Carefree Highway is one of my favorites.

Right now I'm just really all wrapped up with listening to some Yoko Ono.
Every time I start feeling a little distressed about the impermanence of life I just listen to some Yoko Ono and I start feeling pretty good about passing on.
