I Love Warrant, one of my favorite 80's hair bands.

I Love Warrant, one of my favorite 80's hair bands.
OK, I worked at the Candlestone Inn in Belding, MI in 1998 right after I was married when Warrant came to the Ionia Free Fair in MI. They were hilarious to me because they took themselves so seriously (one of the guys had F*ck You tattoed in his inner bottom lip and had to show everyone...even pulled his lip down to answer a question..really...) and the women in the little hick town where I worked were going INSANE over them, groupie style. Anyways, when they left the suite they had stayed in was trashed, there was liquor bottles, porn, used condoms and all sorts of other shit of that nature all over...even though noone saw any women go upstairs (and this was a very small Inn..only one way in or out after 11 pm) Jani Lane was a real piece of work too when I saw him, thought he was a big rock star. Either way....still weird to see he's dead. RIP (BTW did anyone else see his real name was John Kennedy Oswald?! WOW!)
OMG I added like 3 songs on my facebook profile a few days ago O.o
TMZ is saying vodka and pills were found in the room at the Comfort Inn ((Comfort Inn?? Really, Jani?? That's just a step above being found under a homeless bridge))).

Loved him, loved the band, loved the whole cheesy goodness.
They were definitely the soundtrack to my teenage years. I can admit that with only a bit of shame.
RIP Jani
Investigators found a half-empty bottle of vodka and prescription medication in the hotel room where Jani Lane died yesterday ... TMZ has learned.
Sources tell us paramedics were called to the Comfort Inn in Woodland Hills, CA yesterday around 5:15 PM. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
An autopsy is scheduled for later today.
We're told Lane's death is being treated as an accidental overdose or a possible death from natural causes.

Accidental?
He opened a rock club in Orlando in the early '90s, called Jani Lane's Sunset Strip. I was in school studying graphic design and working nights at Kinko's. The bar manager came into Kinko's and had me design their monthly calendars and flyers. I had a VIP pass to the club because of this, and when I finally quit my job and moved to California, I had my going-away party at Jani Lane's. That was in '95. So, indirectly, Jani Lane was instrumental in my late-college/post-college time of my life.
Rest in peace, Jani. You went out like a rock star, which sadly, isn't always the best way to go.
I hadn't heard anything about him in years and didn't know he had problems (I don't watch reality shows). But I sure remember him from back in the days. Ah ... good times.
RIP, Jani.
I listened to Warrant a lot in my youth, still play them in the car now and again.
RIP Jani.
Happened to be in the neighborhood this morning
this is from my mom Rest in peace.
I must admit Cherry Pie was my cheer up song, got me through some bad moods
I wondered when I heard if he had went to the comfort inn to do himself in, but sounds like it was accidential..
Wow...didn't expect this one. I wonder if his ex, Bobbie Brown, is gonna try and milk this. She talked mad shit about him when was alive.
Anyhow, RIP Jani.
"You live alone, creating your life as you go." - Edie Sedgwick
Wow, so sad! I was shocked when I saw that he had died this morning. Warrant and Poison was my very first rock concert back in 1990. I sure did love hair metal.
It sounds accidental, I hope he is at peace.
Oh she will. Don't get me started on that skank.
I feel sorry for his kids
a comfort inn? so many of those 80's metal guys are on the skids. they can't assimilate into real life very well.
Bobbie has just posted some sweet pictures of Jani on her FB page. She's also included pics of his ex and current wife, and his youngest daughter, Madison.

What the hell was he doing in that Comfort Inn? Was he alone?
I find this so sad; he seemingly had it all at one time - hot rock vixen/model wife, daughter,s adoring fans and the rock star life, which again, we see has a dark and destructive side. Too bad he had such a struggle.
Like actors, not all musicians make it after their heyday. They have to be able to find another facet of the business to apply their experience/expertise and make a living. If not, they tend to stay on the road. but that takes a toll on their personal lives, which can lead to the drinking, ect.
No offense, but I hated Warrant. I was into plenty of other hair bands, but these guys never cut it for me. Especially Jani.
With his recent legal troubles, he may have been on the skids.
Cool, cool!... Yeah, I wasn't aware it was gone either until I spoke with someone last year about how I missed going there.
There's a place called The NorVa. I don't know anything about it, I've never been, I have seen some awesome bands advertised though (and would love to go). The only problem is I don't live near there... And anything for that area (Va Amphitheatre, NorVa, Hampton Coliseum) is advertised up here only a couple days before a show. No real time to save money and plan to go.
I've managed a few times anyway... Nothing as fun as a live show!
I'm with you RaRa - The only song I liked by Warrant was "Heaven".
Bobbie Brown has a new reality show coming out with other rock ex-wives. This is perfect timing for her.
RIP Jani.... I hope you are at peace now. Thanks for giving me some songs that are on the soundtrack of my youth.
Heard this on the radio today:
At the Comfort Inn....mmmm....is that where the "Down Boys" go? Is it right next to "Uncle Tom's Cabin"?
I know it was tacky, but I laughed.
"Go to Heaven for the climate - Hell for the company" - Mark Twain
RIP Jani I'm surprised that no one called m the Cherry Pie Guy yet, There was that interview from a few years ago where he went off on a rant about how much he loathed that song, and being known as the C.P.G.
That's the reason most people heard of him and it made him a fortune as he was the sole songwriter. Mind you I suppose you get sick of hearing it, especially when one remembers he wrote it as a joke in about 15 mins
The band Falls into the same catagory as poison or the bullet boys. Nothing more then a opening filler band for a concert. Had he been with an actually talanted act he would have been more. A good/great singer dosent go far if he's got a shitty band backing him
Imo

Holy hell - check out the pic of him with Steven Adler - if that is not photographic proof of why one should not do drugs - DAMN.
I wasn't a fan of Warrant. I always felt kinda bad for this guy, though, 'cuz alot of the other hair bands had great looking lead singers (like Bret Michaels and the dude from RATT; Jon Bon Jovi) and this guy just WASN'T nice looking.
RIP, Jani.
Paula, stephen pearcy ?
LOL thinking the same thing.
The hair bands were for girls to get all googgly over and guys to meet girls at, trying to be like the hair bands to get the girls. But I cant say much, I was totally there too, crying for them. LOL I always went for the guitarist. The singers were to into themselves for me. LOL I so miss those days.
Uncle Tom's Cabin was my fav. song.
RIP Jani, Thanks for the memories.

I remember Warrant being one of the last ditch efforts of the hair band era. When I heard "Cherry Pie" I knew it was the beginning of the end, but as I've said before, I love the song "Heaven". And no, judging by the range of (some I'd call rabid) fans I saw last month at the Motley Crue/Poison show, I don't think Poison is staying at the Comfort Inn playing the local watering hole.
Bas's take...

I think Sebastian speaks the truth, and it's a touching eulogy. What we all imagine is awesome isn't.
Except he wasn't at some 4 star hotel all alone. He was at the Comfort Inn. That's got to be severely depressing to someone that once did have a taste of big fame. I feel bad for his girls.
Funny he doesn't mention why Jani wasn't at the BBQ. Of course we can guess why. But I can't imagine ditching my family for anything, not fame, not anything. Then again, I can't imagine fame.
Jani Lane himself knew what was about to happen once he heard "Smells like teen spirit" for the first time. He wrote about it on his biography posted on his website.
http://www.janilane.net/about/"In the mean time, I married the girl from the ā??Cherry Pieā? video, Bobbie Brown, and we had a daughter, Taylar. Sheā??s 19 now and going to college on a journalism scholarship. Iā??m very proud of her! During this time I heard a song called ā??Smells Like Teen Spiritā?. I felt impending doom! I wanted to hate it but I couldnā??tā?¦it was that good."
RIP Jani. I realize they say accidental, but after all the celebs who have passed due to mixing drink and pills, I say, um Hello??!!
Hairspray was in ..... but seriously I was 16 or 17 when warrant was quote BIG. I was at a hard rock / metal radio station , playing songs and giving away concert tickets at kvhs 90.5 fm here. I never once knew a guy or serious musican that liked these bands. Christ guys only went to see bands like poison or warrant for the rocker girls that would go. The arenas were a sea of horny teenage guys lol.
Ronnie Dio once put frankly, " all the 80s bands saw grunge coming and took it as a passing fad but grunge hit so hard and quickly it left the hair era in the dust. They were all surprized that hair bands who were selling out 70,000 seat stadiums by 1993 were lucky to get gigs at county fairs " he was so right.
Guys in the 80s hair bands with the spandeand massive hairspray and lipstick are now the butt of peoples jokes , like disco was a decade ago.
The radio station I was at was sent by the record company copies of poisons " look what the cat dragged in " album to start playing as a new band before it was put out in stores. I remember my program director saying " thoes chicks are kinda hot " when he first saw the album cover. I leaned over to his desk and whispered "thoes are dudes " ... he said he was going to the bathroom to go puke and left.
