Sad - RIP to the lost; condolences to the families.

I don't think that Egypt Air has such a great safety record.

I was actually looking on my airplane radar app I have on my phone to see if the icon of the plane was still there and so many airplanes going in, out and around that area, It would be a huge shock if none of the other airplanes didn't pick up on a possible missile launch. If that is what brought the plane down.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. It seems like they've been a target for acts of terrorism, and not just recently either.

Just my opinion, but I think this was pilot suicide.

I was thinking that, too. But, like I've always said: If you're going to kill yourself, please don't take anybody else with you!! No one else on that plane deserved to die that way. Horrible!!!

You all could be right about the suicide pilot, but it's funny that Egypt has joined forces with Israel, now, and some other county to battle ISIS, and I just saw a Daily Beast headline on an email stating that the US has ordered ISIS to get out of their terrorist capital--or else. I'm not says, I'm just saying.

I've seen this reported now in several places... leaked ACARS data indicates smoke and heat alerts, lasting from 1-2 minutes, on board the aircraft:

I wouldn't travel Egypt Air if you paid me. IF it is a pilot suicide, it would not be the first time for these guys.

LOL It's the safest way to travel, literally. I've traveled halfway around the world without incident by plane. The one and ONLY time there was a mishap was when stupid Hawaiian Airlines lost our bags between San Diego and Honolulu. They delivered them to us the next day.

Very interesting, Cyn! I haven't heard about this. I've had problems with severe anxiety so we've cut out the TV. I pick things up in bits and pieces, but this is a
    Pretty good sized piece.

I used to love flying, now they have to sedate me to get on a plane. Anxiety has a lot to do with it now, because of all these crashes. I would love to visit my Mum's family in England, be nice if I could drive there as opposed to flying.

I'm not that fond of flying either but it's just the fastest way to get there and still very safe.

I mean think about it - how long do you suppose it would take for a 747 to taxi from LA to Chicago? If you're on the plane; you might as well go ahead and fly.

I'm a nervous flyer, but I still do pretty well on most flights. Turbulence of any kind terrifies me though!

Wake turbulence CAN be a bit unnerving, when you're behind a bigger plane getting ready to land.

I'm not really a frightened flyer, but definitely don't enjoy it like I used to years ago. The worst flight I ever had, and it was terrifying, was flying through a storm- there was horrible turbulence, and an extremely hard landing. Being in the tail section made it even worse... I was in tears the whole time, and actually thanked God when we finally landed safely... the whole plane was shaking violently and felt like it was going to fall apart.

I'm thinking it was either pilot suicide or someone broke into the cabin and were fighting the pilots as the plane flew out of control.

Ever since seeing the ACARS notifications of smoke and heat on board, I definitely don't think it was pilot suicide or anyone interfering with the flight. Smoke was indicated in the front lavatory, right behind the cockpit, as well as heat from one of the window sensors near the first officer. If indeed there was fire anywhere in or near the avionics bay, it could have easily destroyed all electronic and hydraulic equipment, resulting in no ability to control the plane. Considering the extremely erratic turns, coupled with the enormous drop in altitude which happened so quickly, it definitely seems as though there was no means of control remaining whatsoever. Of course, we'll have to wait and see what the long investigation will reveal, but an on board fire seems the most likely scenario IMHO.

I heard about it and it was very tragic. All three were from Oklahoma, my home state. It sounded like she got nervous and anxious as this was her third attempt at landing. RIP.to the three souls on board..

I saw that on another site and because of the way it looks as if the pilot? bounced out on impact which I can't see even after a few rewatches, quite a few people claimed it was fake but if there is audio then obviously not.

From what I've heard, the weather in Phoenix is going to possibly going to top off at 120°. I'm wondering if they'll need to close Sky Harbor or any other city in the Four Corners area.

I don't know; but here the planes are rerouted to take off in an eastern direction rather than over the ocean.

I went on a plane for the first time on Saturday (I'm 24). Getting the return flight tomorrow. I think what shocked me the most was how loud it is in the plane. I was only in a small one, but i couldn't even talk to dad beside me without having to yell.

Just a little aviation history about a novice aviator Roger Corrigan. He was a mechanic for Charles Lindbergh. He wanted to be the first to fly from NY to Dublin. He needed to get the plane a Curtis Robin certified but it failed. He filed a flight plan to return to California. He wasn't about to let that stop him the manager at Flloyd Bennett Field told him he could use any runway he wanted but not to go on any that headed west. he took off east and over the Atlantic to Ireland. He lost fuel due to a fuel leak and poled a hole in he fuselage to let it drain out. He landed in Dublin and not wanting to get into trouble with the authorities he asked where he was, he said due to the cloud cover he could identify no landmarks. When he came home he received a heroes welcome and forever became known as the legendary "Wrong Way" Corrigan.

There are several channels on you tube dealing with Aircraft Disasters. A couple of them use a Flight Simulator Setup to show better detail and sequencing off the crash. Afterwards they show the real photos of the crash. Two that I get the willies about are loss of cabin pressure and everyone just passes out and asphyxiates. One was Payne Stewart's Learjet and another was a Helios (Greek) Airliner that had the same thing happen.
