cancer. I remember him as Dietrich from Barney Miller
Oh, man. I'm sorry he passed away. I remember him from the golden girls. He was funny as a psychiatrist. RIP...
I remember him doing an imitation of Gregory Peck. RIP
He was very memorable on Barney Miller and I recall he was pretty entertaining as a talk show guest back when I used to watch talk shows. I was glad to see him in Sarah Marshall and bummed to see him on FAD.

OMG- no kidding, I was thinking about him and Diana Canova (such a cute couple!) this afternoon and I looked up to see if he'd married, had kids etc. And now I hear he's passed on!
Yes, he married a lady named Nancy and they had a daughter Elizabeth born in 1987.
Dietrich was a great character.
RIP and condolences to his family.
rip
He was a funny guy - RIP.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING? I just LOOOOOOVED HIM in EVERYTHING he did!!! And yes, he was GREAT as Detective Dietrick, and was CLASSIC in the "Golden Girls." As a matter of fact, he was a TERRIFIC character actor! I'm just in shock... Rest in Peace Steve, and condolences to your wife and daughter.
I've been watching episodes of Barney Miller in his honour tonight. I have fond memories of watching the show with my dad when I was small, and his character was one of my favourites.
Watch out for Yemana's coffee in heaven, Steve!
Sorry-Deitrich
Barney Miller was an all around great show. I remember him from that. Hated Golden Girls but he had probably the best part next to Hal Lindens part in barney Miller.
Gawd I loved that show
One of my favorite members of the Barney Miller cast. He will be missed. RIP.

On the internet you can be anything you want.
It is strange that so many people choose to be stupid.

So sad to hear this. Always enjoyed him on not only Barney Miller but everything else he did as well. RIP ...... You'll be dearly missed!
RIP. How sad I loved him on The Golden Girls. "Mazel Tov, you're off the monkey." Classic line.
Nancy - I just came here to post the same thing - lol If I recall, it was something like "Go away...Betty is busy"...but YouTube tells me it's "Beverly".

He was one of my favorites - I found him sexy in a Henry Kissinger-ish way.
VCNJ~
i always watched barney miller w/ my father~
RIP~
Oh man he was a favorite of mine. He was on an obscure series with paul Sands, another unappreciated gem of a actor and funny man.
Sands was a cellist and Steve was his best friend. It was called friends and Lovers
It was witty and intelligent humor, in other words it never stood a chance.
I loved it when he first came on Barney Miller and he assumed they were all on the take. Those were the Serpico and Bronx is burning days for the NYPD. I read that they wouldn't even let him read for the original cast because his Austrian accent in friends in lovers was so good they wouldn't believe he wasn't really Austrian. He was cast after the initial season.
I will miss him.
Regards,
Mary
Wonderful dead pan ... slow delivery with his humor.
Safe Journey ...
Funny , I thought 65 was old ....... about 40 years age. Nowadays , not so much . Loved his wry sense of humour . He made a deep mark in Barney Miller.
You were great and funny as hell, I'm just surprised that you left us before you co-star Abe Vigoda. Rest in peace Steve.
Sad. I wish he was in more stuff, hadn't seem him in years really. Loved his deadpan humor. RIP.
Cindy
I was sad to heard of Steve's death. I always appreciated his dry wit on Barney Miller and his interactions with Detective Harris (played by Ron Glass) were always memorable. Barney Miller was a great ensemble show.
so much for the Barney Miller reunion.
Just heard this, bummer. RIP Steve.
I was so shocked I had no idea he was Ill. He will be missed. Another Victim of Lung Cancer
So very, very sad...he will be missed. RIP
May He Now Rest In The Lords Loving Arms!!
four from this pic are dead
Landesberg's first episode as Det. Dietrich. I just finished watching it. It has his Gregory Peck imitation.

His delivery of the punchline on many of the Barney Miller episodes was priceless. Thank you for being Det. Dietrich and R.I.P. Steve Landesberg.
Steve Landesberg and the question of age ... It would appear he was aged 74.

I always loved him as Dietrick, not just because he was PERFECT for the role but that is my maiden name.
There aren't a lot of Dietrick/Dietrichs out there.
Wow, if he was 74, he looked darned good for his age, until he got sick anyway, I guess....
Landesberg and Traci Lords from an episode of Head Case. Funny stuff
