World's ugliest dog dies after battle with cancer, Florida paper says
GULFPORT, Fla. - A one-eyed, three-legged dog that won the title of world's ugliest pooch this summer has died.
The St. Petersburg Times in Florida reports that Gus, a Chinese crested dog, had cancer.
    He was nine years old.
Gus was rescued from a bad home and went on to win the annual World's Ugliest Dog contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in northern California.
    Gus came from humble origins.
According to the fair, his adopted family in Gulfport, Florida, rescued him after learning he was being kept in a crate inside someone's garage.

He had a happy ending being with someone that loved him and gave him the care that he deserved. To be kept in a crate in a garage how horrible.

RIP Gus. What a cool dog, and cool owner.
    [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Wow, that was some huge-open-mouthed-but-totally-straight-bromance greeting. (爆)~RaRa

Yes, at least he had a happy and loving life. Being kept in a crate is horrible. The dog I adopted was treated that way, it took her almost a year to completely trust me and she is still timid around men. I don't understand why people abuse animals.

With that one empty eye socket he looks like he's winking.
There are lots of much uglier dogs out there. But for some reason, so many of them seem to be those hideous Chinese Cresteds

God... that dog kinda looks like Yoda from Star Wars

Gus was ugly but in a cute way. He looks like he had a lot of personality! God bless him and his adopted family!

I am glad Gus got to experience a good life before he died. Personally, I think he was sort of charming--put an eyepatch on him, he coulda been Johnny Depp.

Gus was on several talk shows, his ugliness was his ticket to fame.

    Damn my average looks!

Poor baby. I'm glad he was happy at the end. We rescued a rabbit who was found roaming the streets of Brooklyn in January with half of her back leg chewed off. She's happy as a clam now. People can be so mean.
