I thought about that blow to the head, Mary. I bet those event organizers are all sweaty and sleep-deprived today.
It sounds like survival is only part of the concern at this point.

of course im not a doc or anything but if the blood is pooling around the brain stem isnt there any way to drain that? like if you got fluid or blood in the lungs they would just drain it out. (sorry im stupid when it comes to stuff like this) I hope the man gets better, my mother died suddenly from this. So i know how it is. It sucks for all the people in that ones life.
Can't stand the band, and always found Bret too treacly -- but I sure am pulling for him. Hope they locate the source soon. Quincy Jones survived a worse case I think, so I'm hoping someone loses a death pool soon on Bret's behalf. Surely the world can survive his contributions of shmaltz a while longer? I haven't gotten too deep into J-Pop so far, but the fact it exists at all has convinced me that the world's propensity for shmaltz is surely indefinite. [Reality shows seem to support this theory as well.]
Yeah I agree they should be sweating this one.
I also ran across a case study from Johns Hopkins tracking the long term prognosis of 42 people who suffered the same sort of hemorrhage, arachnoid brain stem. As a statistics gal I came away thinking this is a total crap shoot.
30% died within 30 days
30% survived past 1 year but remained bedridden until they died most typically from a second stroke or series of strokes.
30% regained all or most of their motor and cognitive functions within 1 year.
10% survived past 1 year but with significant disabilities either mental physical or both. These included speech, sight, cognitive impairment and motor skills.
30% chance of coming all the way back for the most part is pretty good vs the same case studies for strokes involving the medulla oblongata which has a 3 % survival rate and 1% significant recovery rate.
I have been thinking about him talking about both his diabetes as a serious issue for him and then how much the appendectomy hurt and now he would probably glady be dealing with either of those issues right now vs what is happening to him.

Mary
His big fat grouper lips swallowing those ROL chicks' faces freak me out. Like he's hunting for their soul or their tonsils or something. When I was considerably younger I had my walls papered with those pull-out posters from Metal Edge magazine. One of them was Bret with a leather wadded up in front of his junk. Other than that he was just wearing a bandada. Mom made me turn it around. It was ok, because Sebastian Bach was on the other side.
Now Bach looks like he's spent the last twenty years not using conditioner, facedown in a six-pack and Bret looks like he's spent way too much time getting fillers. CC is more entertaining, and I doubt he has much of a brain left to hemmorhage.

I remember watching CC on Surreal Life. He seems like a really cool guy.
Dr Gupta was on Larry King tonight and they showed an animated blow-up of what happens during a brain aneuryism, how the blood blows out.
Scary.
I heard on the news tonight that he is in a hospital here in Phoenix.
Years ago I worked with a woman whose husband had a brain stem bleed. It clotted and he survived, but was ordered by his doctor to quit working and never over exert himself. Ten years passed. And a neighbor asked him to cut their lawn. He did. And the clot burst open and he dropped dead.
My cousin's former MIL had one several years ago. I don't know where it was located, but they gave her up for dead. But she surprised everyone by not only waking up but coming back 100%.
i wonder if hees lookin for sumin to believe in
I saw on the new this a.m. that their first album was released 22 years ago today. Hmm
What's the difference between a brain aneuryism and a brain hemmohrage? This maybe a dumb question.
I think one is just a bulge in the blood vessel, the other is an actual rupture.
http://www.brainaneurysm.com/
What is a Brain Aneurysm?
A brain aneurysm, also called a cerebral or intracranial aneurysm, is an abnormal bulging outward of one of the arteries in the brain. It is estimated that up to one in 15 people in the United States will develop a brain aneurysm during their lifetime. Brain aneurysms are often discovered when they rupture, causing bleeding into the brain or the space closely surrounding the brain called the subarachnoid space, causing a subarachnoid hemorrhage. Subarachnoid hemorrhage from a ruptured brain aneurysm can lead to a hemorrhagic stroke, brain damage and death.
Thank you!
Bandanna stocks will take a hit if he croaks.
Stay in Drugs. Eat your School. Don't do Vegetables.
This is probably in poor taste, but here goes... I was just wondering if they had to shave a large portion of his hair/extensions off to search for the source of the bleed? I do hope he recovers though. He seems like a nice enough guy and he has two beautiful little girls.
Yeah, hmm.
Their debut album, Look What the Cat Dragged In, was released August 2, 1986.
.
Not a good sign that they can't find the source of the bleeding.
I wonder if when they brought him in the doctor couldn't resist saying, "Open up and say ahh!"
Yeah, that was lame.

I thought it was funny! (But i have a weird twisted sense of humor...)
I had the pleasure of meeting Brett once, and he confirmed what I thought; he's one of the biggest douchebags on the planet.
With that being said, I wouldn't wish anything upon him, and hope he pulls through.
Watching his show(Rock of Love) I kind of figured his
downfall would be from a "Social Disease".
But still wish him all the best.
Carolyn(1958-2009) always in my heart.
i just read (sorry, no link...EW?) that he is in surgery. what that means, irhni.
i have had a bad feeling about this onefrom the get go. anytime there is little to no info is not good.
haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ♥♥♥
Opps My fault. It was their second.
Yeah that one! hahaha

His condition has been upgraded to stable.
http://content.usatoday.com/communit...le-condition/1
Again, from bretmichaels.com.....sounds like the positive reports earlier today about Bret being able to move his arms and legs and talking in a slurred voice have now turned to another problem.....
"Test results indicate a setback in Bret Michaels condition a side effect from the brain hemorrhage called hyponatremia a lack of sodium in the body which leads to seizures.
Bret Michaels was the topic of Larry King Live as Donald Trump, Jr. and other celebrities weigh in on Michaels condition. Due to the severity of his condition, Bret Michaels continues to remain hospitalized in an intensive care unit at an undisclosed hospital. He remains in critical but stable condition according to his doctors. Last night on Larry King Live Bret Michaels condition was the topic on the show as Donald Trump, Jr., Darryl Strawberry, Sanjay Gupta and Carlos Diaz discuss concerns, lasting affects as well Michaels as a person. Donald Trump, Jr. stated that "Bret is very likable guy, down to earth and a solid person." He stated "out of all the people from 'Celebrity Apprentice,' I may have had the best kind of off-camera relationship with him over the three years." Trump, Jr. also says he is a great father and rocker and concerned for the singers health. Strawberry who starred on Celebrity Apprentice with Michaels says he is a good friend on and off camera. He is a hard worker and is a creative force on the show. Without a doubt he lives a crazy lifestyle and he wishes him a speedy recovery. Carlos Diaz who is a Radio Host and Entertainment Correspondent says Michaels is "a star that transcends several generations." He has reinvented his career, both on "Rock of Love" and "Celebrity Apprentice" as well as his music. Dr. Sanjay Gupta is CNN's chief medical correspondent says a subarachnoid hemorrhage is an aneurysm in one of the blood vessels. He stated about 10 percent of people don't survive. He obviously survived that. About another quarter of people don't make it through the first couple of days in the hospital and 30 percent make a full recovery.
Michaels' medical workup demonstrated findings of a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a type of stroke that causes bleeding in the fluid-filled spaces around the base of the brain. It presents itself suddenly as the sound of a loud gunshot or thunderclap at the back of the head causing severe cranial pain and muscle spasms. Many people are speculating Michaels head injury suffered from a prop striking the singer at the Tony awards last June is the cause. Additional studies are planned throughout the week to hopefully detect the exact cause of the rupture. Coupled with the fact that Michaels is a lifelong Type 1 diabetic and has recently undergone emergency appendectomy surgery while on tour in San Antonio, he will remain monitored closely by his medical team to make sure no complications occur from the diabetes.
The most common cause of this condition is a spontaneous rupture of a cerebral aneurysm, however, 15 to 20 percent of spontaneous episodes of this hemorrhage are found to have no cause. Michaels has undergone a continuous series of tests while in the ICU including angiograms, CT scans, MRIs and transcranial dopplers (TCD's). Doctors state Michaels is very lucky as his condition could have been fatal. With further testing and rehabilitation, they are hopeful that Bret will gradually improve as the blood surrounding the brain dissolves and is reabsorbed into his system, which can be a very painful recovery and take several weeks to months. Michaels remains under 24-hour observation in the ICU and is in positive spirits. He is responding well to tests and treatments. Even though today was a minor setback Doctors remain hopeful for a full recovery and plan to release more specific information next Monday."
The show "ET" just reported that "close friends of the family" are saying Bret will be having brain surgery "soon" to relieve pressure in the brain.....can't confirm that anywhere else, but just an FYI.....
Will keep checking.....
I know someone......and, he says Brett has taken a turn for the worst today, and is in ICU at an Arizona hosp. We're all praying for him, doesn't sound good at all, but there is always that slight chance. Prays for Brett
Oh no! I hope he pulls through.
Bret's Dad said just now on Extra that he talked to Bret on Saturday and he was talking very slowly. His dad said that Bret told him not to come out to be with him to hold off until he comes home. Nothing on his current condition just that he is still fighting for his life on ICU.
Hope he gets better soon.
Wow
It is so sad to watch Apprentice now
I bet their numbers are going up.
Whew, didn't see this at first and thought the thread was being moved.
Old saying: "No news is good news".....
Yup, going with that today.....
CNN is reporting a "set-back" for Brent involving seizures. I actually had made mention of this as a possible complication that can occur about 5 to 6 days into the event in an earlier post.
I had hoped he would be spared this event.
Hopefully this will pass as well.
Regards,
Mary
My maternal grandmother died from a brain aneuryism. Her's was in - and I do mean IN as in inside - the brain itself.
IMHO, aneuryisms are where too much blood pools into the brain, then ruptures. Hemmorages would be where there was some possibly external trauma to the head and the brain started to swell. Either way, neither is something I would wish on anyone.
I hope Brett gets better soon.
This isn't looking good. Of course, I am a doomsayer.

Does anyone know if he got himself checked out after the blow to the head, or how bad it was? Did it give him a concussion?
I too pray for his recovery. Wouldn't want to see this happen to anyone.
