    Death of Texas Stadium

I lurk a lot, but don't post much. However, I think this belongs. I'm not a huge football fan; went to a Cowboys game 20 years ago; crossed it off my list. But, this does tug at my heart strings, mostly because of the Landry years I guess.

In any event, the torch has been passed to the new stadium which, I must point out, is not only not in dallas (of course, neither was the original), is not that close to dallas and isn't even in dallas county. The new stadium is very impressive from the hiway; doubt I'll ever get in there. I hope Tom is proud; I know Jerry i$ $o happy!

So here's to the Tarrant County Cowboys and their Arlington Stadium.

Thanks for sharing this. I went to Texas Stadium in 1991 and had a blast. Still haven't been to the new stadium in Arlington but will visit it one day.

I remember when Texas Stadium was being built. My mother, a staunch Cowboys fan, pointed it out to us one day as we were traveling down the road.

"Look, kids," she said, "there's the new Callas Dowboys stadium!"

We never let her forget that slip of the tongue and used to call her to ask her who the Callas Dowboys were playing that week. RIP Mom AND Texas Stadium!!

My father, brother and I spent a month in the Dallas area back in July of 1995. We're from central VA, so we've always been Redskins fans. I remember my dad telling me "Don't tell ANYONE you like the Redskins!" LOL We stayed in a few different places around that area and every place we went we had to circle around Texas Stadium. My brother and I would make faces at the stadium and secretly flash the bird at it. Yeah, we were kids. For some stange reason my brother was a HUGE Texas Rangers fan, and at the time their manager was Johnny Oates. My mom and uncle went to school with him. My mom and he also went to the same cancer center in Richmond. My brother got to meet him one day when it was his turn to take mom to chemo. We LOVED the Ballpark in Arlington, but refused to step foot in anything associated with the Dallas Cowboys!

Yep, the stadium with the hole in the roof. They say it was so God can watch his favorite team.

The new Cowboys Stadium is amazing......

Now wouldn't it be a coincidence for the Cowboys to make it to the 2011 Superbowl, which will be played in Cowboys Stadium? Has any team made a Superbowl appearance in their own stadium? I understand that's the NFL policy...if any given team makes it to the big dance and the venue happens to be one team's home stadium, then so be it. If that happens, it would be a JJ coup!

BTW, I hear there's a corporate sponsor for the implosion.

Don't ya know Jerry would be rolling around in his solid gold house laughing, wondering where to put the rest of his $$.

Growing up in Arlington, I went to Rangers games at the old stadium and in the mid 1990's they built a new stadium for the baseball team. Met my husband at Texas Stadium in Irving in 1997 and 9 months later we were married on a beach in Jamaica. Now much of Arlington has been plowed under for the worship-at-the-altar-Jerry-Jones-dome. It is huge, absolutely. It towers over everything! My parents live in Arlington and live several miles from it.

Sad to see Texas Stadium go but they also tore down Reunion Arena. Nothing is sacred anymore.

When I think of Texas Stadium I think of Tom Landry and what it meant back in the days of playing for the love of the game. Tom Landry is one of my hero's he was a class act and Jerry Jones did him wrong and for that I have 0 respect for Jerry Jones. BTW did you catch JJ trying to tear up as Texas Stadium came down. I didn't buy it.

I watched it on tv (as opposed to paying $25 to see it in person!). It's wasn't terribly impressive.

I went to a cowboys game there on a whim one Thanksgiving day around 1988.

I remember Tom Landry. He used to come into the clinic where I worked frequently. It was before he got really sick, he was coming in for lab work a lot. I would see him on the schedule, and would notice him sitting in the waiting area. Without that signature hat and jacket he didn't particularly stand out and I would bet that very few other patients realized it was him.

Jerry Jones has just sucked all of the joy out of being a Cowboys fan for me.

Yes, JJ had a bunch of "criers" there to watch the implosion. My last visit to Texas Stadium was about 10 years ago. Although impressive on the outside, it truly needed a major makeover on the inside. It was not the impressive stadium of old, but an aging arena.

I got photos the day before (on my way to see Bon Jovi @ the AAC) and then again the day that it came down. I watched it on TV and it was sad to see. Even though the new stadium is AWESOME, the old stadium did have a lot of history.
