Mostly sports figures, but of the ones that people might actually know of... NASCAR driver Ward Burton was very sweet, and former Philadelphia Eagle Vince Papale (who was portrayed by Mark Wahlberg in the movie Invincible) was incredibly friendly, as was his wife (portrayed by Elizabeth Banks). Very classy people.
Rush Limbaugh was a a total d-bag. I met him back when he had a tv show (mid 90s) and while he would sign autographs, he would not make eye contact, would not pose for pictures and we were informed that we had to stay 2 feet away from Rush and could not make physical contact. Couldn't even shake his hand. We tried to make small talk and he completely ignored us.
My uncle who is a Civil War reenactor was in the movie Gettysburg, and my 2 aunts were also on set. According to them, Martin Sheen was amazing, a truly nice guy. They were also very impressed by Tom Berenger, Stephen Lang and Sam Elliott. Apparently Jeff Daniels was not a nice man at all, and neither was Ted Turner.
I think my most surreal celebrity encounter was with John Montefusco, who played for the Yankees years ago. I had the chance to meet him at an event and got his autograph for my uncle (same guy as above, HUGE Yankees fan... I myself am a Phillies gal and loathe the Yankees...). That night, Montefusco was arrested for stealing narcotic pain killers from his friend's home and he was sent back to Jersey because he was wanted for prior illegal activities (assaulting his ex-wife, if I remember correctly). My uncle, a police officer, was the one that booked him. Needless to say, he didn't need the autograph I got him
ETA: I can't believe I forgot the 2 most famous, LOL. Kevin Smith, what you see is what you get. Very down-to-earth, really appreciates his fans. Jack Pallance was kind as well.

I should've added Vince Gill to the list of celebrities I've met, because he was one of the nicest people I've ever met, he really is. My daughter sings with him in a charity thing for the Children's Advocacy Center. I've got a video of the last song they did here (my son took it with his cell phone, although they were forbidden, as it was a charity thing and all.) If anyone wants to see it, let me know and I'll post the link. (Her last name is on the video, so I wasn't sure if that was okay or not... most people I've "talked" to on here, though, already know my last name, so I don't think there's any harm in it?) I know she's (that daughter) in the picture of my daughters in my profile, and if that's okay I guess the video would be, too. It's not even the whole song, just kind of the last part of it. Andrew (my son) figured as long as it was about over anyway, he may as well record it (and I think she's secretly glad he did!)
He let us (the family) take endless pictures before and after, and he absolutely couldn't have been a nicer guy. I'm not a big fan of country music, but this guy was amazingly kind to all of us, and had a great sense of humor. I'll try to post a picture of him with my daughter, Karley, here. And again, if anyone wants to see the video, just let me know. , t.j.

Hubby should try a fine new German-engineered product called the Palmer DREI. It's a 15 W max. three-way single-ended tube amp. I just finished translating a press release and a review in the FAZ about it. (Note to mods: no I do not have any direct financial interest in the Palmer company or its products.)
NPR All Things Considered showed military musicians some love last night. They aired a report about how the US military is the single largest employer of musicians in the US (or maybe it was even "THE WORLD"). They also had a real cool segment about recently uncovered funk and rock recordings from a US Army battle of the bands back in the Vietnam era in Germany.
The singer in one of the bands was rockin' an Afro in uniform. When a visiting general got concerned, the guy's CO carefully explained that it was a "wig". The general was satisfied. End of story.

Post it John! Be nice to see!
When she told me they were going to sing this for an encore, I was almost afraid to watch... some of those notes seemed awfully high to hit under pressure. Turned out just fine (well, but then I'm a little biased...) Here's a part of my daughter Karley, with Vince Gill doing "I Will Always Love You"... sorry about the shoddy camerawork, it comes from the boredom of my then-13-year-old son... That was, I'm thinking, like two years ago... it's an annual thing, and a very big deal for the family!

I checked the Palmer web site, nice amp! I have an 80's Boogie Mark III which has a similar concept. It has 15W single ended and 60W push-pull power amps. You can select 15W mode only or what they call "Simul-Class" which mixes the two stages for 75W. I almost always play in single-ended mode, it'll blow the walls off even at 15W. Loud, as they say, is good.

Thanks so much... and yeah, I was so worried about that, about mistakes... she acts like she does, too, but it never seems to show very much. This was the very last song, and I was kind of hoping there wouldn't be time for it, or (worse even) the audience wouldn't want an encore.... It didn't become completely fun for me until it was over, because that's pretty much when I stopped worrying!
Thanks again... really.

Hi I am new, first post and joined because of this thread. I just spent two days reading alll the posts. Haven't had a lot of negative meetings.
I used to work in radio in Chicago (mostly marketing and sales)and as a result got to meet people both through work as well as through various other people. I know I am forgetting a few because I met a few I had no idea who they were.
Al Kooper. I believe he was the original lead singer of Blood Sweet and Tears along with a musician who played notable songs, such as the organ on Like A Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan and he wrote Who Wears Short Shorts. Anyway he was really cool and spoke to the class about everything and then gave autographs.
Isaac Hayes. When he heard Al Kooper came to class he wanted to as well! He was amazing, he played the piano and told us cool stories. I went up to get his autograph and told him how much I love his song Shaft. I sounded like an idiot but he thanked me for liking his music. I have the autograph and was thrilled when he became Chef because if anyone deserved a comeback it was him. I was sad he died.
The Buckinghams. Not sure if many remember them but they were huge in the 60's and had many hits including Kind of a Drag. Since then they play a lot of local fairs and whatnot. I got to meet them after several shows and they were so nice to me. They were my first celebrity encounters and I was shy but a few people told me to go over there and I did. I was in heaven.
Al Lewis. Grandpa from the Munsters for those who don't know. Really cool but seemed a bit out of it.
Ron Jeremy. Cool guy and even asked me if I was considering a career in porn to give him a call. I wasn't but I considered that a compliment.
Bill Maher. I met him at a book signing. He was nice to me, and signed the book I bought. I've since heard bad stories about him and wonder if he would have been nice outside of a concert where if you bought books he would sign them. He was allowing photos and even gave hugs (I don't do hugs).
Duran Duran. Earlier I had attended a general admission concert with three friends and they took me and a friend up to the front of the stage (this part makes sense a bit later). Later on the one friend who was taken to the front of the stage with me asked if we wanted to meet them at the hotel. I said yes so we went there. The guys couldn't have been nicer except for Simon LeBon, the lead singer. He saw us and walked away. I got autographs and photos. They didn't talk much but I'm not a talker myself either. I did tell them I was happy the other members came back and one thanked me. My one friend followed them into the hotel (she knew them from before)but I stayed back because I felt that was intrusive. A few years later I heard from other people I knew and the reason my two other friends weren't taken to the front of the stage is because one of them was obese and the other unattractive and several members really don't like obese people. Oh and they heard them making fun of certain fans. This wasn't all of them, just a couple.
Jenny Jones. She had a talk show and I went to a taping. Afterwards she signed autograph. I went with a class and she got mad at my classmates because one of them called her "old". She gave me an autograph but didn't seem that happy. She was very tiny, she was wearing heels and I was still much taller than her.
Various members of Styx. The members of Styx lived by me so meeting them was fairly common. I attended school with Dennis De Young's daughter and she was so laid back about her dad being in Styx. Other classmates made a big deal about it but I didn't and she appreciated this (I'm not a big fan of theirs). Years later I was cashiering at a store and Dennis DeYoung came in. He asked me a few questions about the store but decent. I rang him up but didn't make a big deal about him and he was friendly. After he left I asked the one manager and she said he comes in often.
Jon Wellner. This one is more of an honrable mention because I didn't meet him in a professional capacity but he was a classmate of mine. This is before he moved to California. For those who don't know he played Gilligan in a TV movie and recurs on CSI.
People who worked for Steven Soderburgh. I got to sit in a meeting because they were considering using my area (I live in an town about 45 minutes outside Chicago)for Oceans 12. They went with another town but they told me had they filmed there I would have been hired on the set (I had recently gotten my masters in communications).
People who worked for INXS. I was working at a restaurant when these guys came in. They were working for INXS and had a meeting with the owner about having them practice there for a show. It fell through but still pretty cool.
I got to see parts of the Dark Knight being filmed and while I didn't get to meet anyone, watching it filmed was a cool experience. On a lower experience, but I got to see a commercial for Honey Bunches of Oats being filmed and they were giving away boxes of cereals.
I saw Mike Ditka on the street near my office downtown. He was a loudmouth and I didn't talk to him because I don't care about him. I've actually met a few sports stars because I did a job sports marketing but couldn't remember most of the names.
These are second hand stories from people I know:
My dad met Walter Payton when he became a partner at a company my dad worked. Said he was very nice and liked to play jokes on people. Never heard a bad thing about him. I know others who met him.
On the other hand I know a few who met Michael Jordan and none of them have a good thing to say.
My then roommate met Buddy Guy because he used to shop where she worked. Said he was down to earth.
My mom loves Elvis and found out her favorite uncle was his bodyguard in Chicago. He didn't know she loved Elvis because she would have introduced them. He said Elvis was so nice and generous. He would give autographs to any fans.
I can't say names in this case, but my dad grew up near a famous comedian. My dad knows his family as I do. Last time he saw said comedian he was rude to him.
I know I am missing a few. I have met many celebs in passing but since I am not overly obsessed I don't pay attention unless it was someone I was into. I have met many local celebrities and most were nice, but I often wonder if it's because I was in the "biz". I will say though that some of the fan behavior I have seen and I know why many celebs can be mean.
musicfanatic.
Awesome post!
And welcome!!!
.
Thank you Havoc. I have met several politicians as well but most were nice, mainly because they almost had to be (I worked for a few).
Welcome, musicfanatic! Kewl post!
I have another "nicest" to add since my Richard Marx post. Played a Veteran's Day concert with the rock band Kansas, and they were all super nice (especially the violinist and drummer - who are both killin'!). That band still "has it" and is the real deal. They were sooooooo loud...and I'm no stranger to playing for bands, got the 20 years of hearing loss to prove it.
My husband has met a lot of famous people. He said that Tom Hanks was really nice. I'll have to get more stories from him to share here.
I'm glad to hear that Tom Hanks is nice. I like him in movies a lot.
Thanks MirrorDimly.
Speaking of Tom Hanks I meant to post this earlier but my mom's best friend met Tom Hanks and got his autograph. Said he was really nice. Another actor that friends have met was John Travolta and he was also nice.
Yeah, I've never heard anything other than nice things about Tom Hanks and John Travolta. Apparently class acts, the both of them.
Tom Hanks is a total legend. Enormously talented and successful and yet doesn't take himself remotely seriously and the lengths he's gone to to promote his films shows a real commitment and belief in everything he does which is sadly lacking with some actors these days. Even if the film isn't that great, he'll go out and push it. Often hilariously.
I like Tom Hanks in every movie I've ever seen him in, but he'll always be Forrest Gump to me! I love that movie!
I can watch Forrest Gump over and over again.
Me too! There is no telling how many times I have watched that movie. I still cry everytime when he is talking to Jenny at her grave. I think it's funny when he was a little boy sitting on his front steps and he mocks the noises that the principal makes while in the house with Forrest's mom. I never get tired of the movie.
Aww, that's awesome! Little Forrest was adorable! I like Gary Sinise, too, and it was amazing how the movie made it look like he didn't have any legs. One of the best movies ever, IMO!
Renowned Death Hag
Meanest- John Rich- total prick! I've posted about my experiences with him before
Nicest- Alan Jackson- So genuine and modest! I was serving him when I worked as a banquet server at a country club and from my experience the nobodies there were much worse and more rude than he was!
I live in Nashville so I meet a lot of country celebrities but not necessarily many movie stars
Renowned Death Hag
Speaking of John Rich, let's see what was just posted on several sites:
Country Singer John Rich Kicked Off Southwest Flight After Crew Deems Him Too Drunk to Fly, Report Says
The story also says he was arguing with other passengers before he even got on the plane.
No, no, no, Cynful! He is special! If you don't believe it, just ask him!
I guess his "specialness" was even more inflated by that blowhard Idiot Trump. I despise that ASSHOLE....he's got one of the most over inflated egos I have ever seen. What a VILE individual. When he was married to Ivana and she talked to hotel emplyees, he told her not to speak to "those people". I'd like to put him on a 500 mile flight to hell with 499 miles of jet fuel on board.
Donald Trump is a big ball of nothing wrapped up in a goofy combover of hair. His wife always has this sour look on her face like she smells shit. There are many celebs who insist on not being spoken directly to by "common" people and even throw a screaming hissy fit if a regular person tries to make eye contact with them. I have heard this time after time about Julia Roberts and J-Ho in particular. We should get them on Trump's charter flight to hell!
I never heard that about Julia Roberts. Wow, that is a surprise. Wasn't her husband ,Danny, a cameraman when they met? Seems a little hypocritical of her to act that way around "the Little People" when her husband is/was one. It's too bad they can't fine celebs who act that way.
Live free or die: Death is not the worst of evils.
Yes, he was a cameraman, married to someone else when they met. I guess he isn't one of "those" people now that he has access to her money.
I hadn't heard that about Julia Roberts but have heard it about a lot of the people listed like that John Rich, J-Lo, and Donald Trump. Donald Trump has a building in Chcago and a casino in Gary Indiana (near Chicago)and I've know a few who met him. Said he was a pompous jerk and definitely has an attitude that he's better. I remember reading a story that he would never change diapers because "Trumps don't do that".
I met him in October - Burton Gilliam. If you don't his name, you know his face. I work with his DIL.

Hi...Newbie here, but still like this place and have read up to page 19.
This is a second hand story from a friend of mine, but here goes.
A few years ago we somehow got on the conversation of Hulk Hogan and my friend asked me if I knew that the place where we worked (I still work there, he's moved on to greener pastures) had made Terry Bollea's implants. I was like, huh...no, I didn't since I wasn't working there then, but cool! Then he told me that yeah, it was kinda cool because after his surgery, Terry Bollea apparently called in and over the PA system thanked everybody on the manufacturing floor for the work put into the implants.
Like I said, second hand story but still kinda neat. Did this make any sense? Sorry if it didn't but I've been up since 8:30 Friday night and it is now 3:30 Saturday afternoon.
Renowned Death Hag
With him, I wouldn't doubt it. He was very mischievous.
That's is why I like my job...because you never know who the parts I make will help. Just might be someone famous. =)
Here's a story my husband told me. I swear, I miss all the fun. Years ago, when he was still married to his ex-wife, the two of them and a friend of his went to a Korn/Rob Zombie concert (which would have been cool enough as it was) and Rob Zombie bummed a cigarette off of his friend.
Not sure about the boxing matches. He does tons of charity golf events. He is also the TV spokesman for Rodeo Ford. He told me had just finished his 51st movie. He signed my VHS tape of Paper Moon, one of my favorite movies and his first movie role.
Almost every country artist I know is gracious & kind. Because most of them are Southern.
I love the Napoleon Perdis makeup line. But he came to Nashville for an event & he expects all women working his events dress a certain & way & have breath mints at all times, & other criteria & find pompous & hilarious. What a drama queen.
My husband and son are into heavy metal music and went to a concert last week with All That Remains and Hatebreed. All That Remains had a table set up and if you bought a cd for $10, they would sign it and you could talk to them. Both my husband and son said they were all really cool and down to earth and friendly. They signed the cd and a t-shirt my son was wearing and all posed for pictures with my son. Their bassist is a woman and she talked to my son about music and was asking him about a bracelet he was wearing. They were both impressed by how friendly everyone was.
I already posted on this thread about John Rich but since he's come up again I'll just reaffirm he's an asshole. My friend dealt blackjack to him and his posse and said some of them were cool, one girl tipped her $100 and the rest nothing. They also were downstairs in our employee area and one of his people held back all the employees who actually had to use the escalator to the casino to get to work while his whole entourage used it "privately". I've never even seen any of the guests who perform there downstairs since it's a limited access area and I'm sure there is a separate VIP area for people who are performing but for whatever reason they were down there.
I've heard terrible things about Rich. he's so hot though. it's a shame.
