I have never met a mean one, but as I understand it Lucille Ball was one first class Nasty woman.

tombs appraisal of barbara mandrell reminded me of a time i was at a party where i met a black woman whom i did not expect to know much about ol' barb. my new friend spoke knowingly, and then finished with "she never became the star she thought she should be,because everything she did seemed underhanded".
I concur, thanks for all the stories. Very interesting stuff!
We had three WWE wrestlers visit us at work during a promotional tour in 2005. One of them was Chris Benoit. As the visit progressed, he and I paired off and chatted. I spent an hour with him, mostly small talk as I showed him around. I remember him as soft spoken, very easy going. I was shocked and stunned when he killed his family and himself. You never know what goes on behind the eyes and in the soul. Tragic.
I haven't met too many celebrities but here are the ones I've met & what happened:
-Charles Barkely-Former NBA player-@ a TGIFridays in Philly, very nice, shook hands with, chatted with for a few moments
-Richard Simmons-Super nice. Hugs, Kisses, autographs, very nice man. Met @ the Pocono's
-Gloria Estephan-So sweet! She has a huge body guard, but always travels with her family. Bodyguard took pictures & she let my son pet her dog, Noelle. Met in Miami Beach, FL
-Anne Rice-Twice. Once in New Orleans & once in Miami Beach. Okay, alot nicer when I had my son with me.
-Jamie Lee Curtis-Not so nice. Saw here in Coral Gables @ a book signing. She was ordering people around the whole time. Big disappointment!
-Bill Clinton-I love him! Gave me a hug!
-LL Cool J-In a elevator in Anaheim! He smiled. I was speechless and ran out of the elevator.
-
I've met mostly "oldies" performers. Del Shannon (great guy), Jerry Lee Lewis (was told he was a prick, but he was nice to me!), Gary Lewis (very friendly and FUNNY), Freddy Cannon (an ass), Big Bopper Jr (an ass), The Monkees (were very friendly), Peter Noone (great on stage.....ass off stage), and MANY more.
Don Ameche: Airport in Phoenix. Classy, gracious.
Jesse JacKson: Airport in St Louis. VERY friendly. Told me to take off my mirrored sunglasses, as "the eyes are the windows to the soul" I was hung over. Got his autograph.
Nicholas Cage: South Beach restaurant. Just spoke. Seemed nice enough.
Mickey Mantle: Las Vegas. Had a few drinks in him. Long time ago.
Dick Vitale: New Orleans. Nice but would be exhausting to be around.
David Allen Coe. At a 20 dollar slot machine in Metropolis, Ill. casino. Could NOT have been nicer.
I met one last night..... his Name? Scott Michaels.....yup you looked correctly. Scott is definatly a celebrity in my book. He gaves us a great site, an awesome forum and he's totally awesome. He came in the chat room wth us and most of us were siked!
It was truly a pleasure to talk to him. If ya'll don't know about the chat room here is the link! Who knows maybe you yourself will get to talk to him.
http://client4.addonchat.com/sc.php?id=255354
Scott is an awesome dude! I found FAD a few years ago and have enjoyed perusing its directory for lnfo. I love the new site and the people who post here. I never new there were so many who shared my interest in celebrity deaths. Its like Christmas in October!
nicest....Martin Short, James Earl Jones, Alan Ruck, Mathew Broderick, Richie Sambora and Heather Locklear (when they were together) he stepped on my foot and then sent a bottle of wine to our table! Joe Elliot, Garth Brooks, all the guys of Sawyer Brown (back in their Star Search days) Loretta Lynn back when I was 6...had us kids come into her trailer and gave us lemon aide and candy! Robin Williams...that man is never still I swear! and my top....drum roll please...you'll never believe it
SEAN PENN! San Fran Air port 2001..in town for a 4 day holiday...get off the plane and head to cab central for a cab but first a smoke...I'm lighting my ciggy and I hear..."hey can I get one of those from you?" I look up say "of course!" He smiles and says "Thanks...Hi I'm Sean" I'm like "yeah...I know"
we shot the poop for about 20 minutes until his wife Robin showed up...she was just so nice...they offered me a ride into the city even though they were going the opposite way...I declined...I know...STUPID! They were just a very nice couple, hard to believe he has that reputation
WORST that I've met...Nick Nolte...he was such a rude obnoxious jerk and very short to boot! Glen Campbell...BIIIIIIIG surprise there! He posed with us kids for a photo and flipped off the camera...don't ask to see the pic guys it's been gone for years! Tom Skerritt...OMG! rude demanding and insulting...Ken Griffey Jr...LONG story he's married to someone I grew up with and was so rude to my former step children they tore up all their memorabilia of him!
My life is pretty boring, so I have to use examples from my mom and husband. Also, these aren't exactly the biggest celebs in the world...
Johnny Paycheck- My mom went to one of his concerts before I was born. He invited her and her boyfriend and a big group of their friends to party with him afterwards. Mom said he was really nice and plenty willing to share booze and a "smoke".
Henry Rollins- My husband met him here in St. Louis at a Chinese restaurant. Being a huge Rollins fan, my husband tried not to squee like a girl, and approached calmly and cooly. Rollins actually invited him to sit and eat with him! So the verdict is that he's a really cool guy.
oh I can't believe I forgot him!
Ozzie Smith! He played minor league for the Walla Walla Padres...he left I think when I was about 4 years old...but every week my dad would take us to the games and Ozzie would put me up on his shoulders before the game and run the bases with me...on the 3rd of July he took me, my brothers and about a dozen other kids down to center field to watch the fireworks display...he was so nice and I remember when we would come in for a game he would address my father as "Doctor Love" and each one of us by our names, hand us snack bar "chips" to go get all the candy etc that we wanted...what a nice man!
would love to see Ozzie again and see if he remembers us?! Probably not...he's met so many in his career...but he holds a special place in my memory of my childhood especially with my dad who passed 5 years ago..never think of baseball without thinking of both of them!
ditto on johnny paycheck
earl scruggs was and is a true gentleman.
bobby allison is a patient and friendly man.

Worst: Soleil Moon Frye, who could not seem to understand that she actually had to take a cab to Disney's Pleasure Island and not be personally driven there (this was in 1994, long past her so-called star days--I was working front desk at one of the resorts, and was not impressed with her at all)
Best: Bruce Springsteen--very down to earth and friendly, and even held conversation for a bit when I took an package up to his room. He was just about my height, which surprised me (I'm 5'4)
Emmett Kelly (the clown)... used to visit children's hospitals in the late 60's, I guess, because he visited me there. I loved him.
Cher and Chastity Bono... it must have been mid-70's, Chastity was about 5. They were shopping in Sausalito (used to live there). My sister and I got autographs from both (Chastity signed her name "Chas".) They were nice enough not to mind being accosted by the locals, but I lost the autographs.
James Cagney... on the set of Ragtime. He was in bad health.
Meryl Streep, Cher, Kurt Russell... on the set of Silkwood. They were working.

I've never met any but I'll never forget my Gram telling me about having coffee with Ronnie Milsap in the parking lot of the hospital she used to work for, and being in line behind Mario Andretti in the grocery store. Ha!
The only celeb i have met was Scott Micheals - on the tour. He was fantastic. I got to sit up front (How ace, I know) and he took photos for me when the places were on the opposite side of the street! Woo hoo
My boss was on a plane in bus class (london to LA) and sat next to Bryan Adams. Anyway cause he didnt recognise him and just sat down and started to put stuff away (probably tried to use the armrest between the seats too!) Bryan complained and wanted to move seats to first class (what a tightarse). There were no spare seats so then he was whinging even more until finally someone offered to swap seats with him. What a whinging looooser.
Burt Young is still alive, and played Rocky's brother-in-law, not his coach. Do you mean Burgess Meredith?
I saw Burt Young briefly at a Robin Williams show in New York a couple of years ago. Very friendly, nodded politely and greeted everyone who recognized him. A much bigger (physically) person than he comes across on the screen.

I've met several more, I used to work at Opryland Hotel and met tons of country stars and other celebs when they stayed there.
I was living in Raleigh, NC a few years back and went to this club alot called "The Warehouse", in the summer a lot of celebs come down to play in the Jimmy V foundation celeb golf tourment, after the game they all go to this club. Since my friend and I were regulars we got to hang in the VIP section. I met quite a few celebs that night. A big jackass of the night was Micheal Jordon. He won't say hi to me until I started talking to his bodyguard, who was the nicest guy, then all of a sudden he was like " Hi" Whatever! Charles Barkley was there.Nice guy. He is a BIG man. I met some soapstar guy who was a jerk after I told him I had no idea who he was. Gary Busey is really nice but really creepy looking in person.
At the airport I met Matt Damon: nicest guy, Diana Ross: what a bitch. Paula Abdul really nice.
My brother who worked for years in radio met a number of famous folks.
Both me and him met both Delilah and John Tesh several years back. Delilah was nice but John only said Hi and that was it.
He met Dan Patrick ( nice ), Rush Limbaugh ( EGO !!!! ), Cousin Brucie ( he says the man is stuck in the past ), Richard Simmons ( nice but got upset when someone asked him if he was gay ), Tiny Tim ( he said he was weird ), and Linda Ronstadt ( very nice but doesn't like people to mentioned her old music ), Paul Harvey ( nice but he doesnt expect to be around much longer..good day !! ) and Don Pardo ( very nice ).
Mike Harvey who is host of the syndicated oldies show "Supergold", he says was very nice but very off the wall.
Well, I've only met one. Dennis Stewart, Craterface from Grease.
I met him at a high school football game where my uncle and his nephew were playing.
He sat and talked to me for awhile, I was a little scared of him b/c of his character in the movies (I was only 9), but he was so very nice to me.
It was sad to see he had passed away.
I didn't really get to met this band but close enough.
Alabama (country band) was in town signing autographs. Me and a friend went to the signing hopeing to get up close and personal with them. I got a peice of paper and a pen from the car and got in line. Somebody stopped me when I had been waiting almost an hour and told me that if I wanted an autograph I had to buy their new cd. I didn't have any money on me so I couldn't. They would not let me go in the line with just my paper.
Two things really made me mad. One, they could have had a sign at the beginning of the line telling people this. That way I didn't waste an hour of my life in line.
Second, there was a girl about 10 yrs old in line with a slip of paper and they let her go. Seriously, it really didn't make a difference to me that she was a young child. Make her parents buy the cd for her!
Ever since then, I have only thought of Alabama as money hungry and haven't liked them since.
Not living in America, I have always found it odd that bands and movie stars there ask you to pay money to get an autograph. I thought they would be grateful for the fact that you have invested either your time, money or emotion into their careers and would gladly give you an autograph for free. Really, how demeaning it must really be for them.
I am a sick puppy....woof woof!!!

i was 6 or 7 years old and i accidentally sat down next to Muhammad Ali at the Louisville international Airport. I had no idea who he was. Just this really nice silly man making faces at me and making me laugh. This took place in either 1984 or 83 so it was well before his Parkinson's disease really took hold. My family was awaiting my father's arrivial and i didn't even notice he was standing in front me me (my dad) because he was dumbfounded that his son was sitting next to "The Greatest" and sticking his tounge out at him. I got up to leave, Mr. Ali did the same. He gave me a hug and smiled at me. As soon as people began to recognize him the ensuing crowd swamped him and security made a path for him to get out. He never so much as said a word to me and just winked and waved as he was ushered out.
Mickey Rooney - funny, friendly
Miss Peggy Lee - very sweet and the conversatia was 100% about........Miss Peggy Lee!
Zsa Zsa Gabor - a sweetheart, she tweaked us on the cheek.
Judy Garland - patient with an obnoxious persistent child(us)
Lou Ferigno - world class a-hole.
Here's a surprising one (because she gets some of the worst press) but Shannen Doherty was unbelievably nice and friendly and conversational.
I met her about 10 years ago at the Viper Room on a Thursday night and she came right over to us first (I was with my gf). She talked with us about all sorts of things, did the *women going to the ladies room together* "thing" with my gf, she stayed around, laughed and smiled and hung out all night with us. She was the most down to earth celebrity you can meet. She was nothing short of Terrific.
She had two girlfriends with her but they were inconsequential to the event.
OK, I'm back. Long weekend.
To Burt Young - sorry I killed you off. You were still a nice guy at Disneyland when I was a lifeguard.
Reading through these, I had a lot of negative things to say about certain stars and I don't want anyone to think that I'm one of the those class-A pushy fans or star chasers. Most of these people I had the misfortune of meeting because I worked in "The Industry" for many years and they treat people like shit. This never ceased to amaze me because why treat the people around you - makeup, camera, sound, boom, PAs - like crap when their job was to make you look good?
Case in point - I was at the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas having a late dinner at their high end Italian restaurant when who walks in to the near empty seating area than Nick Cage with his entourage (which was really 1 friend and 4 body guards). He sat down in the booth next to us and I only glanced over once to check out his suit, shoes, and watch (I'm not gay, it's just something I do when I meet people; see if he's wearing Armani with a swatch). And guess what? He was a pretty normal guy with a few people bothering him during dinner, but all in all just a guy out for dinner with the guys. Never trying to draw attention to himself or pull the star-treatment thing on the staff.
Now I told you that story to tell you this story:
I'm working in upscale Abington, PA and decide to drive over to Doylestown to see the countryside and go to a nice restaurant. I walked up to the building and this mean, nasty, short & stubby woman comes bolting out of the restaurant and screams at me "move asshole and no I don't have time for an autograph." OK, let's make this clear, I'm here for food and wine and I didn't even recognize SALLY JESSE RAPHAEL when she walked out. So I get back into her face and firmly tell her precisely where and how to have sexual relations with herself. Now there are two other people chasing after her that heard this exchange and quickly moved her along. Afterwards I go into the restaurant and long story short - she tipped the waitstaff $4.00 on a $90.00 meal. When I left I tipped $5.00 on $20.00 just so I could say I tipped more the SJR. Is it any wonder her daughter killed herself from a mixture of drugs and alcohol? I'm sure she's beautiful on the inside. <snark>
Oh, and pre-Con Air Nick looked great - straight out of GQ.
More to the list:
Lee J. Cobb - I'm around 7 years old and we were at Train Land (that place in LA just down the street for Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills that has all the trains you could climb on) with the family and this guy was talking with my Dad the whole time we were there. Afterwards my Dad shows me a picture of this great actor at the library and they basically just talked about kids, work, and marriage. My dad never let on he knew who Cobb was and said he was a real down-to-earth kind of guy.
Dinah Shore - I had a friend at the time who was cataloging all of her film and TV appearances. He worked out of her house on Oxford in Beverly Hills (I think Scott has a photo on Dinah's FAD page) and she had film and video cases scattered all through the house. He had nothing but great things to say about her.
Jimmy Stewart - a friend of mine sent Stewart a case of apples one fall from Wenatchee, Washington and got a very nice personal letter back from Stewart. So a year later he knocks on Jimmy's door and the housekeeper answers. She freaks out a little but asks him to wait and closes the door. Ten minutes later Jimmy opens the door and not only remembers the gift, but his name too. They spoke for about 5 minutes and my friend says he just reeked of class.
Bruce Willis- Nice, Kinda arrogant. My brother is in Armageddon at the end in the little race car box thing "flying" Anyway they filmed alot of that movie in my hometown and invited alot of the locals to be extras
Christina Applegate-Met her after her brodway show in NYC "Sweet Charity" She was nice as well.
OK, this is second hand but quite telling:
I was at Steve Allen's home (have I told anyone lately how much I hated this guy?) waiting for AAA to come over to the house for a jump-start on the Rolls (I drove this car about once a month - nice car but drives like a Sherman Tank). So anyway I ask the guy is best and worst service moment with a star.
The Best:
He gets a call with a car wrapped around a tree with the driver a bit banged up and obviously three-sheets-to-the-wind drunk. He pours the guy into the truck, hooks up the car, and tows it to the guy's house. He pulls the car back into the driveway out of site and lifts the rather large passed-out man out of his cab, opens up the house, cleans up the driver, and puts him on the couch with a blanket over him. Three days later AAA receives a hand-written letter from the drive complimenting the AAA guy and his service.
The drunk driver was Alan Hale of Gilligan's Island. The AAA guy said it was the nicest thing anyone had done for him at work.
The Worst:
Same AAA guy gets a call from a home in Encino Hills regarding a jump start on a Mercedes. He gets there only to have the caller refuse to open the door despite identification. He has to wait over an hour while the homeowner calls her assistant who drives over the hill from Hollywood to have the homeowner open the door, hand the keys to her assistant, who then hands the keys to the AAA guy. She would not hand the keys directly to the serviceman.
That home owner was Melissa Gilbert of Little House on the Prairie.
I have met many-
Captain and Tenille and dogs, Donny Most(Ralph malph), Adrian Arpel, Jack wagner,Josh Duhmel, Linda Danno,Billy Moses, The soup Natzi,Dan Laurea
My son met Steven Speilburg, Tom Cruise, Brian Denahey,Kevin Spacey,John waters
Rupert Everet,Too mant to think they were all great but
Spacey was an asshole my son said
Benicio Del Torro nice, Heather Graham nice, Magic Johnson was nice. James Woods was cool.
I've only met a handful, living in Houston isn't really conducive to meeting celebs.
Brian McKnight was nice, but quiet.
Terry Ellis [En Vogue] - she would smile at you while she walked past as fast as she could, surrounded by 'her people', but that was about it.
Shaq - good guy. Me and three friends were doing the tourist thing on Rodeo Drive and this stainless-steel paint-jobbed Hummer pulls up next to a jewelry store and Shaq comes out and goes inside. We manage to slip in right before the staff locked all the doors and pretended to be looking at rings [though the staff kept an eye on me cause they knew we weren't there to buy anything]. Shaq buys a ring and leaves, but before he made it to his Hummer my friend yells "Hey Shaq! Can we get a picture?" Well, he was obviously in a hurry, but he stopped, did the Shaq smile bit, put his arms around everyone and we got the pic. Meant nothing to him, meant a lot to us.
Latoya Jackson - I was in Germany and she was there to perform during a festival. I was working a side job at a food stand and the back door led to the side of the stage. She was onstage singing to one German woman who was obviously only there to use the benches to change her baby. Latoya sang, stopped, and smiled at me, then asked if I wanted to hear anything. I asked for something Motowny and she began to sing Where Did Our Love Go. She was sweet but it was plain she wasn't all there. I could tell she did not understand where everybody was, as if it never occurred to her that maybe no one cared. Huge Baby Jane vibe.

I have seriously enjoyed EVERY post in this thread, thanks everyone!
May I play too?
I've met a only two celebs in my 26 years:
John de Lancie (Q from ST:TNG): Didn't speak one-on-one (this was at a meet and greet) but he was very funny. He told some hilarious stories about his earlier days in show biz. At the end of the event we all lined up to get his autograph. In the interest of saving time he was signing his initials to pictures and objects, which I think for him in standard. But I brought my "All Good Things" film cell from Star Trek, and he signed his full name to it. I was only 14 when this happened, but it's one of my greatest memories from that time.
Lou Hirsch (The voice of Baby Herman from Who Framed Roger Rabbit?): Very personable and sweet. He runs his website on his own and deals with fan mail personally.
Robert Stack: Never met him personally, but I've been a huge fan of his for years. Back in junior high I wrote him a fan letter, and received a response only a few weeks later. It was a signed photograph of Robert on the set of Unsolved Mysteries. I still have it framed and on my wall.
Both my father and boyfriend work in broadcasting, so they have met some celebrities over the years:
Bruce Willis, pre-big time fame: Nice but smoked pot like crazy...probably still does...
Bill Daily from I Dream of Jeanie: Very nice
Barbara Eden, also from IDOJ: Very nice
First Lady Laura Bush: Gracious
Sally Field: Nice
Sherman Hemsley: Standoffish
Mary Steenbergen and Ted Danson: Apparently both nice. Ted took the time to chat with my Dad for a few minutes when he was in Little Rock. AR with Mary (this was several years ago at KTHV-TV). Mary was pleasant but didn't like the fact that people wanted to take pictures of her while she was there. I can't blame her for that I guess.
My mother met Poncho Barnes as a child. In case you don't know, Poncho was a female aviation pioneer who hung out with Amelia Earhart. My mom met Poncho much later on in the 60s, when Poncho's car broke down in California. The closest mechanic was my grandfather. My mom was about 10 years old at the time. She told me many times that Poncho was sweet as could be. Poncho was legally permitted to nurse wild animals, and she was traveling at the time with a cheetah. The cheetah was so tame that my mom got to take her for walks around the neighborhood while Grandpa was working on Poncho's car. I love that story.....
I was telling my friend about this and she said how could you leave out David Letterman!?!?
When we worked at Opryland Hotel he came to do a speaking engagement and she adored him and we went trying to find his room. Ended up in the wrong room and were heading back to the housekeeping area all bummed when we saw a key in a door. We had to knock and see if the guest was in and if not call security...anyway...we knocked and called out twice and proceeded to open the door catching this guy coming out of the bathroom stark naked. It was David Letterman. We both yelped and he turned and ran back into the bathroom. The hotel's vanity area of course had a large miorror over the sink and it faced mirrored closet doors so I got the full view front and back. I was mortified and my friend was pissed becuase she was standing behind me and saw his head and shoulders. I got a horrible case of the giggles but we had to wait for him to come back so we could verify it was his room, she had to do that I couldn't stop laughing. He looked pretty dang good too..lol.
A couple of weeks later the Star tabloid ran an item about it in their gossip section...don't know who sent it to them...wish I had thought of it, they paid money for stuff like that.
Hahaha....I'm pretty pathetic, but I've met Brooke Hogan. She seemed nice, but she was busy trying to talk to everyone that wanted to talk to her.
I knew Andrew Firestone (the Bachelor) he was a college mate of my cousin's and we did go on a date or two. Nice guy, but can be self absorbed.
I also knew Freddie Prinze Jr., when he lived a short while in Albuquerque. He was pretty nice but a jerk, he was in High School at the time. I saw him again after I graduated high school, he was nice but a jerk still! LOL He was my friend's cousin.
I haven't met a mean celebrity YET.
