    09/09/09 Yep, today.

In Florida, at least one county clerk's office is offering a one-day wedding special for $99.99. The rarity of this Sept. 9 hasn't been lost on the creators of the iPod, who have moved their traditional Tuesday release day to Wednesday to take advantage of the special date. Focus Features is releasing their new film "9," an animated tale about the apocalypse, on the 9th.
Not only does the date look good in marketing promotions, but it also represents the last set of repeating, single-digit dates that we'll see for almost a century (until January 1, 2101), or a millennium (mark your calendars for January 1, 3001), depending on how you want to count it.
Though technically there's nothing special about the symmetrical date, some concerned with the history and meaning of numbers ascribe powerful significance to 09/09/09.

For cultures in which the number nine is lucky, Sept. 9 is anticipated - while others might see the date as an ominous warning.

    Math magic
Modern numerologists - who operate outside the realm of real science - believe that mystical significance or vibrations can be assigned to each numeral one through nine, and different combinations of the digits produce tangible results in life depending on their application.
    _____________

Found it interesting that the Japanese view the number "9" as we do the number "13" (well, at least some people do... I've always liked the number 13. )

Nine Couples Pay 99 Cents to Wed on 09/09/09

LOS ANGELES -- Nine lucky couples are saying "I do" today at a local 99 Cents Only store, giving them the quirky wedding date of September 9, 2009 or 09-09-09.

The couples were among 2,999 applicants hoping to score a 99-cent wedding as part of a promotion for the store.

With nine family members and friends on-hand, the nine couples are saying their vows at check out #9 in the store, located at 5270 Sunset Boulevard.

They'll then be sent off in a limousine with $99.99 in cash to an undisclosed "famous romantic Los Angeles" spot.

The brides won wedding gowns made out of T-shirts, table cloths and other items sold at 99 Cent stores. They also had the option of wearing their own gown.

Emily, one of the lucky brides, told KTLA that she wishes her gown cost $99, but it was a bit more expensive. "At least my veil was 99 dollars," she said.

In addition, the couples will enjoy a free night's stay, including dinner, at the Hotel Angeleno in Brentwood. They also received a prize package of $2,599.

As part of the promotion, a 9-pound, 9-ounce baby born somewhere in the chain's region -- California, Arizona, Texas and Nevada -- will get $999.99.

In Las Vegas, wedding officials are preparing for the busiest day of the year.

Nine couples are scheduled to marry at the Madame Tussauds wax museum on the Las Vegas Strip at 9:09 a.m., while 99 more are waiting until 9:09 p.m. for a shared ceremony in the observation deck at the Stratosphere Tower. Each paid $99 for their wedding package.

Jessica Skrutvold of Las Vegas said she and her husband-to-be Chad Lyons invited nine guests to their 9 p.m. wedding at a Vegas chapel.

Still, officials don't think 09-09-09 will be as lucrative as July 7 two years ago or Aug. 8 last year, as weddings have declined for Sin City since 2004.

This is a big deal in China. Apparently the word for "nine" sounds similar to the word for "forever", so a record number of couples there are tying the not today. (and no, that's not a typo )

Yep, it's good luck in China and considered bad luck in Japan.

Well time and calanders was created by someone.
So I don't really get why this matters.
Before calanders all there was, was daylight and night. Time is just a concept.
    Also, it's not really 9/9/09.
I mean, the 200 kinda gets in the way of that last digit.
If it had been THE 9th year, then we would have something to talk about.

The #9 is my favorite number!!! We were suppose to get married today, but instead chose 08/08/08 since it was more significant in our culture. LOL
