Any one see that they are doing an HBO film on the freak show that is Phil Spector? Al Pacino is doing the portrayal .. also Helen Mirren co - starirng. I caught about 10 seconds of the trailer recently. I'm curious to see Hollywood's spin on it . I hope that they treat Lana's memory with respect and dignity *hope*.

I love Helen Mirren - I wonder how far Lana's career would have went if she had not been murdered.

Yes, I can see how rude Lana was-getting him in trouble and may even stained furniture-the cow!

This film should be interesting, Al Pacino and Helen Mirren should give it some class. I do hope Lana is portrayed in a dignified manner.

They have been advertising it here in Singapore. Dunno. I think Pacino may not be the right fit for the part. He is getting a little too formulaic for my taste.

    I wouldn't bet on it.

It's based on the story of Spector's relationship with Linda Kenney Baden, and directed by David Mamet, neither of which think Spector intentionally shot Lana.

There is a disclaimer saying it is a work of fiction inspired by the trial.

    http://www.latimes.com/entertainment...,5821025.story

"Mamet wants to have his cake and ignore it too, to invent what he likes and leave out what he finds inconvenient. The result plays as a brief for the defense, a one-sided argument for Spector's probable innocence â?? one that claims Clarkson shot herself, by impulse or accident, with his gun; Spector was known to pull a gun to make a point or get his way. ("If he'd just been a regular citizen," Mamet told the Financial Times, "they never would have indicted him.") Clarkson, to the extent we are shown her, is made to look pathetic; and no other character speaks for her."

I won't be bothering to watch it, creative non-fiction BS like this ticks me off.

I won't either, Maddie. I don't want to see some fictionalized account pushed by wiggy the pipsqueak.

Did anyone see the interview with Phil on BBC America last night - The Agony and Ecstacy of Phil Spector? Apparently it was filmed during the first trial. It pretty much takes the bent that Lana did herself in without saying so. Phil comes off a little less crazy, more old and eccentric. He drops a lot of names; there is a lot of good music and old film. I honestly did not realize that Phil wrote "Spanish Harlem." It was interesting, but not necessarily convincing.

I caught the HBO movie this past weekend. Pacino was great as well as Mirren, but the film itself was too pro Spector with Lana Clarkson as a unimportant character, which kind of pissed me off. Yes, Mamet obviously likes Spector and he seems to show him as a quirky guy who loves guns (). Mamet really tries to make you sympathetic to Spector. But, Mamet failed IMHO.

I watched it the other day, wasn't bad, Al was the most subdued that I have seen in years, Helen was great as always.
I do think Lana could have been better portrayed though.

I was very annoyed with the film-I love Al Pacino and Helen Mirren rocks but Lana was an 'afterthought' in this movie...that was irritating as hell.

I haven't seen the movie yet (I really need to be in the mood to watch something that is clearly biased) but I went on IMDb to see what people are saying. Pro-Phil fans are using the movie as "proof" that he's innocent. Yeah, a film that flashes a disclaimer about it being fictional is proof Spector should be let out of prison. I'm also a bit astounded that Mamet and these pro-Phil people think Spector was some poor, eccentric guy who was targeted and made an example of because he's rich and famous. Since when did that crap happen? Robert Blake is just a nuts and has far less money than Phil and he got off scott free!

The amount of support Phil gets just because he's Phil Spector is just sickening. I can see liking the dude because he made some great music but to degrade the victim and make her out to be some psycho who committed suicide at a stranger's house is just beyond me.

Yeah, being a great record producer doesn't make you a great human being. Lana Clarkson was a beautiful woman, and nobody deserves to go out like that.
    Sincerely yours,

Phil Spector definately has a few screws loose, he most certainly did it, either by accident or on purpose, only the two of them will ever know the truth. RIP Lana, it was a very tragic way to go.
