I'm thinking that's probably what happened there. I also until very recently lived in California amd for years. The state needs money. Figuring out the best way to handle the situation while not having to spend from extremely tight social program budgets and keep the children together would be no easy feat for any social service agency right now. And dealing with the fame aspect of it could also get expensive for the state. You know that if even one little thing went wrong qfter they were removed from Nadia's home, she'd sue the shit out of them... with a free lawyer probably. She wouldn't win. But it could cost the state and county a lot to deal with something like that. Therre are other costly things I can think of in the removal scenario but I'll leave it at that.
They couldn't donate the money to a children's charity? That would've got them some much better publicity, I think.

I know this is goofy sounding, but I think she would sell her own children if the right amount of cash was dangled in front of her. She deliberately planned and went through with her pregnancy with the thought of getting rich from it ala Gosselin. That didn't happen when details about her started to come to light and the public was outraged by her behavior and sense of entitlement. I don't think she gives a damn about any of her children and the child with the cleft palate that hasn't been surgically repaired proves it. These children almost certainly have state medical coverage and a cleft palate isn't just a cosmetic problem, it affects speech and the way the child eats, not to mention the child's self esteem. Why hasn't she had this taken care of when the child was a baby like most people do when their baby is born with a cleft palate? God knows it isn't because she would have to miss time from a job. She can spend over $500 on her damn hair, but hasn't had surgery for her child that needs it. Yet another thing that proves what a piece of shit she is.

I feel so sorry for those children and Nadia's stressed out parents who are broke and spending their retirement years taking care of a stampede of children because their mother won't take care of them. In every picture I have ever seen of the grandparents, they both looked haggard and depressed as hell. Nadia is just so selfish. My gut tells me that something bad is going to happen to those kids. I hate saying it, but I have no doubt that something will happen. Then the state will have to do something. The fact that she has not given one of her children a very needed surgery, but has no qualms about beautifying herself instead (BBO's, mink lashes, tummy tucks, injections, gym memberships and god knows what else) just shows how this bitch thinks. It is easier on them when they are younger and it also is a good idea to correct it before they learn how to talk so they won't have a speech impairment. The baby with the cleft palate is Jonah. One of my highschool friends had a baby with a really bad cleft palate and it was fixed when he was an infant. He has a small scar that is barely visible now.
Pwem, the authorities may wonder how it could have happened, but the rest of us wonder how it couldn't have happened.

Every time this thread pops up, I pray that I'm going to read that CPS came and took the kids.
I am absolutely appalled that a baby that old hasn't had a cleft repaired. I have a degree in speech-language pathology and I like working with cleft palate cases. The first surgery should have started at 3 months old (age adjusted for prematurity). At that age the palate is more easily moldable and they can fix it so it's barely noticeable. He probably would need speech therapy, but would have been OK. But as he gets older, the palate becomes harder to work it and then dentition (teeth) comes in as he grows older, it's really going to be messed up. I mean, when exactly is she going to schedule this surgery?! After her next round of plastic surgery, visits to MAC and buying Business Class tickets for the kids to go to NYC?!
It's just wrong on so many levels and I feel so badly for this child.

He was the last of the babies to come home from the hospital and was very small and not in good shape to begin with. A normal person would probably be more protective of a child that got such a rough start and needed surgery to correct his cleft palate. A couple of the McCaughey septuplets had some disabilities, but they were well taken care of by their parents who made sure they were treated properly. Nadia is too busy with herself to care whether the children are taken care of or not.
Why would she schedule surgery for the child? In her mind, it probably gets her more attention. "Oh, poor woman. No husband, a slew of children, one with a disability! How tragic!" They aren't children, they are accessories. They are great big stage lights all designed to point directly at her. And if something happens to one of them, all the better for her. There'll be outpourings of grief and money and more attention as she spouts how terrible it is to lose a child {and how she can't afford a funeral or burial plot or dress to wear...}.
I'm sorry, I only see ugly things when I look at this woman. If they were cats or dogs instead of children, she'd be a hoarder and the Human Society and ASPCA would be all over her, but because she plopped them out herself, those children have to suffer until something unbelievably horrible happens and child services is forced to step in. It's disgusting.
I had no idea she had a child born with a cleft palate! To echo aviatrix's comments above, it is appalling that this boy hasn't had ANY corrective surgery. My son, a ten year old, has a classmate who was born with a cleft palate. I honestly would NOT have known if this boy's mom wouldn't have told me the whole story. He was hospitalized for weeks and has had I'll bet twelve surgeries; he's now in orthodontia for special corrections. This boy is so cute and has a few faint scars and a slight speech impediment (my son thought it was a British accent!), but gets the best care and attention. That's just what you do for your children.
Could not having surgery for this child be considered neglect? What is she waiting for? My dentist travels the world doing Smile Train work; no child on our country should have to suffer like this - you know has speech, eating, breathing, sleeping issues, not to mention the social implications.

The thing is- I don't think she's stupid. She's managed to make it this far- still be in the public eye, get donations, government benefits and money, and keep all of her kids. All through exploiting her family and children. Stupid she's not. Narcissistic, selfish and manipulating- definitely.
I think that's one the reasons so many people foam at the mouth when they even hear her name. Because she's managed to stay in the news and gotten everything she wanted- all while keeping her kids and house- in a time when so many other people are losing their homes with no sympathy from the bank and no one helping them. And it's all because no one wants the kids to suffer. If she gets ignored, the kids go hungry. She waves those kids in front of people- it's almost like waving a red cape at a bull.
It makes it even worse because nothing can be done about it. The state can't afford to take those kids away and she can't afford to keep them.

Well, I apologize for bringing up the cleft palate and not realizing it had been repaired. I am glad it was finally done. Free of course, so it wouldn't interfere with her hair appointments and Mac sprees. As usual, an outsider who cared more about the well being of her children than she does because she waaaaaah, can't afford it. As far as her being able to keep herself in the media, she obviously isn't stupid. She's selfish and immature and lazy, but definitely not stupid. Most master manipulators are quite intelligent or they wouldn't be able to keep up the scam for so long. She has to be somewhat intelligent to get away with all she has, but that doesn't make her a good person and she is still a shitty mother. If I had a child (or 8) and need corrective surgery best done during infancy, I'd be asking for help. There are times it's okay to ask, and that would have been the time. She gets no pass for that. Someone gave her child something out of pity, which is apparently her agenda. Good on him for doing it, but no way is that a good on her.
