I live two blocks from the spot where the Zodiac murdered cab driver Paul Stine (the exact spot: corner of Washington & Cherry in the Presidio Heights district). They actually filmed the related scene in the recent movie "Zodiac" right there also. If you need directions, let me know!

Newsocks, here is a google map that someone put together with Zodiac locations. The red placemarks are confirmed Zodiac locations in Northern CA and the Yellow ones are possible locations in Southern CA. Hope this helps.

Its like 7 or 8 hours south of SF but here in riverside at the RCC parking lot the Zodiac killed the young lady in 68 or 69. Also, according to my mom he signed the guest book at the Loma Linda Seventh Day Adventist church. She was there that day.

Lake Berryessa! I HATED going there as a kid, it always creeped me out, after finding out about the Zodiac I guessed that thats why I always felt creepy.

I'm probably too late but I was just in San Fran a couple weeks ago. If you like bath shops at all, I highly recommend the LUSH store in Union Square!

I also took a duck tour (amphibious vehicle) while I was there and that was quite touristy but fun and I got some great pictures of the Bay Area from the water!

*Bump*
I just had to bump this because I'm surprised this topic hasn't been more active. I'm reading the Greysmith book, even though I know it's full of shit. lol

I have a couple of random thoughts regarding Big Z:

First of all, I don't buy Allen as Z. Allen was openly violent, domineering person.
I think that whoever the Zodiac was wouldn't have been this way. I think he was someone repressed and quiet. I don't think that someone so crazy as Allen would have felt the need to do the whole Zodiac thing. He's more of a shooting somebody in a bar kind of guy.

Second of all, I think that Cecilia Shepherd would be alive today if Bryan Hartnell had keep his fucking mouth shut. He kept talking to Z, asking questions, generally being a know-it-all. I think that Z dressed up and wanted gonna scare the living shit out of some kids so they would tell the police about the scary costume and thusly the legend grows. Instead he got Hartnell who was way too calm and observant (and made no attempt to hide it). That's why he said "I've got to kill you people". I think he was just kind of thinking out loud. Hope that makes sense.

If it's the DNA test I'm thinking of, Allen was negative. He was not Zodiac.

I'm still shit off at Greysmith. LOL. Seriously. Do you know I spent years looking for that book (before I got a computer and Internet), finally found it on Amazon and I even bought the second dang book, and then I find out both were a bunch of bullshit. Grrrrrrrrrr.

Zodiac killerā??s name to be revealed

By: Tamara Barak Aparton

Coded message: Longtime San Francisco attorney Melvin Belli was addressed directly in a letter from the serial killer who called himself ā??Zodiac.ā? The Zodiac killer, who taunted and terrified Bay Area residents in the late 1960s with cryptic letters and a trail of victims, has been identified, according to a group claiming to have cracked the case that has baffled police for decades.
The killer is not one of the handful of men repeatedly linked to the 40-year-old crime spree, according to the group, which plans to announce its findings today.
The group also says new evidence shows the killer had an accomplice for some of the slayings.
Two years ago, colleagues of the late Melvin Belli, a prominent San Francisco attorney, organized a team of investigators and forensic experts to probe the Zodiac case after a woman came forward claiming to be the killerā??s relative.
Belli, who died in 1996, became connected to the hunt for the Zodiac after a man claiming to be the killer wrote him a letter containing a scrap of shirt from his last known victim, San Francisco cab driver Paul Lee Stine.
Edward Lozzi, spokesman for the group and former communications director for Belliā??s law firm, said the team will support its claims with forensic evidence, including cryptology and handwriting analysis, along with new information from law enforcement investigations and murder accomplice evidence.
ā??The murders were not random. They were definitely people who were targeted,ā? Lozzi said, adding that the recent findings show that none of the previously suspected men is the Zodiac Killer. ā??This is an entirely new direction.ā?
The killer, who claimed to have killed 37 people, sent coded messages and letters promising more deaths to the press.
Investigators linked the elusive suspect to the killings of five people in San Francisco, Vallejo, Lake Berryessa and Benicia from December 1968 to October 1969.
Two more victims were shot but survived. The Zodiac continued to send letters to authorities and newspapers throughout the 1970s.
Arthur Lee Allen, a former Navy man who died in 1992, is the potential suspect most widely mentioned in the case. Other names that have surfaced over the years include Jack Tarrance, Larry Kane and former Manson Family member Bruce Davis.
The San Francisco Police department, which reopened the Zodiac case in 2006, is not involved with todayā??s noon news conference, department spokesman Sgt. Wilfred Williams said. He declined to comment further.
Lozzi has said that all evidence his group has collected has been turned over to the FBI.
Zodiac timeline

• Dec. 20, 1968: David Farraday, 17, and Betty Lou Jensen, 16, are killed in a gravel parking area near Lake Herman Road in Vallejo with a .22-caliber semiautomatic pistol.
• July 4, 1969: Darlene Ferrin, 22, and Mike Mageau, 19, are each shot several times with a 9 mm semiautomatic pistol while parked in Blue Rock Springs Park in Vallejo. Ferrin dies, but Mageau lives to provide a description of their assailant. That night, a man calls the Vallejo Police Department, identifying the murder weapon and claiming responsibility for the killing and the Lake Herman Road murders.
• July 31, 1969: The Examiner, the San Francisco Chronicle and the Vallejo Times-Herald receive letters from a person claiming to be the killer. The letters each contain one-third of an encoded message cipher. The letters are signed with a crossed-circle symbol. The logo is also used on Zodiac brand watches.
• Aug. 4, 1969: In a letter to The Examiner, the killer first uses the famous greeting, ā??This is the Zodiac speaking,ā? thus coining the name by which he will be known.
• Aug. 8, 1969: Donald and Bettye Harden crack the cipher codes and produce a statement from the Zodiac describing his enjoyment of killing.
• Sept. 27, 1969: On the shores of Lake Berryessa in Napa, Cecilia Shephard, 22, and Bryan Hartnell, 20, are approached by a man in a hooded costume with the Zodiacā??s symbol. Both are stabbed several times, but Hartnell survives. The symbol and the message ā??Vallejo 12-20-68, 7-4-69, Sept 27-69-6:30 by knife,ā? identifying the previous murders, are found written on Hartnellā??s car door.
• Oct. 11, 1969: Yellow Cab driver Paul Stine, 29, is shot and killed just before 10 p.m. at the intersection of Washington and Cherry streets in San Francisco. Police officers speak to a man who may have been the killer, but they do not suspect him because their dispatcher had given them an inaccurate description.
• Oct. 13, 1969: The Chronicle receives a letter and a portion of Stineā??s bloodied shirt from the Zodiac.
• Nov. 8, 1969: A fourth cipher, 340 symbols long, is sent to the Chronicle. That cipher has yet to be solved.
• Letters are sent until the 1970s, but there are no more confirmed Zodiac victims.

Guys.... I have to confess and get this off my chest.... my dog Pugsly is the Zodiac Killer. Now that he's getting on in years he feels great remorse for his actions. He wanted me to tell the world he is VERY sorry for what he did. he he

Honestly, I don't think the truth will ever come out. That said.... I believe that there are A LOT of similarities between Zodiac and BTK. Both claimed they chose their victims to be their slaves in the after life. IMO... they both had some cryptic writings that seemed eriely familiar. If I rember right both sent cross word puzzles. A serial killer doesn't always stick with the same MO.Especially, if they think they are close to being caught. They just change their ritual, and viola the cops are thrown off the trail. Green River Gary changed his MO several times to throw off the cops, and Bundy did as well. Trickly little bastards, huh?

Well, let me be the first to say, Shame Shame Pugsly, naughty dog, I suggest no belly rubs for being such a bad boy... but since hes apologizing, I guess an ear scratch is ok... ha ha

I agree Dexter... there are quite a few that come out of the woodwork claiming connections but like Jack the Ripper... unless someone finds actual physical evidence that can scientifically be connected... it'll always be a question mark.

I think the same could be said about the Black Dahlia murder. Isn't it somewhat bizzare that in the past few years, so many people have come forward after their fathers died, and said that he committed the crime? I think for some of them it's a desperate grab for attention. Obviously somebody committed these crimes but, will we ever know the truth... I dunno...I hope so because it would bring some closure for the victim's families. Elizabeth Short's family didn't seem like they cared one way or the other about solving the crime. I think she had a very hard upbringing, and a very sad life. She got the noteriety she longed for in life in her very brutal death. Because of the nature and circumstances of her death her legend will live on forever.

b57hrle Guest
I agree Dexter... when I hear another came forward, I always question whether its legit or just an attempt to get themselves fame in some form... but really who would want to be famous because they had a pyscho murderer for a parent? Im sure someone would wonder how far the apple falls.. and that doesnt seem to me to be much fun to live with.
Im a sucker for the old crimes too.. and I agree Elizabeth Short is one that will always draw a crowd..

I read that article, and then saw her on the news tonight.

Honestly, I think she's full of shit. Her father might have been a serial killer, but he sure as hell wasn't Zodiac, and she's just making it up as she goes along. And why do I say her father might have been a serial killer? Gee, how many operate undetected in the U.S. at any given time? He could have been one of those. Anyone could. Hell, we may have a serial killer posting on this board, for all we know.

Note to any serial killers lurking or posting here: I'm not a good target. Too many people would miss me....like the utility companies.

California Woman: My Father Was the Zodiac Killer

"He told me he was sick, and all I wanted to do was help my dad," said Perez, who came to her conclusion about two years ago. "He kept telling me he was sick and he killed many, many people. I had no idea."--

She claims to have "tagged along with her father during the killings," but only came to the conclusion only two years ago, having the victim's glasses in the family for over 40 years, and her dad being dead for 26, that he was the Zodiac Killer? She wrote letters to the papers on his behalf about the crimes, but can't keep her father's secrets any longer now that a hit movie had been made in 2007? What gives?

The book about Jack the Ripper suggests that the way his real identity was found was because his DNA from a stamp or envelope that he licked survived thus matching his DNA with whoever he really was. So maybe. But how can this bitch tell that she has had the victim's glasses? Do they have a name on them? I tried reading this story at work but it reminded me too much of the guy who claimed HIS dad was the Zodiac killer. He had proof too, he took apart some speaker or something and found the black Zodiac hood. Shit, I think my dad was stationed in California when he was in the Navy. Maybe he's really the Zodiac killer. I was born in 1981 and went to California in the mid-late 90s and in 2006 or 2007. Maybe I'm the Zodiac killer!

This is not the first time I have heard this same story from the same women. She came forward when she was a lot younger and tried to tell the cops about this. Years ago! I often wondered why no one investigated this claim back then. It would be a real ripper if she is not lying lol The cops would look rather inept if it is true and I wonder if it were true if they would admit it.
