Well, at their wedding, when the priest asked Barbara if she would take Frank for richer or poorer, he (Frank) cracked, "Richer, richer!" He knew. But at that point he also knew he needed a certain even-tempered, uncomplicated kind of wife, which Barbara was.

Gee, I thought I hated this book, but I sure remembered a lot of lines from it~

Whoops, priest? what was I thinking, I'm sure it was a judge.

Barbara was only Uncomplicated because of the money!!!

I think it was a judge also. Wasn't Ronald Reagan best man if I recall?

Reagan....sounds right, maybe. Like I said, I was skipping around at that point.

But at least Frank and Barbara understood each other. That's as good a basis for a successful marriage as anything, I guess.

Hey, is Big Nancy still alive? They said she was waiting for Frank to come home right up to his dying day. Still considers herself his wife.

From what I can tell she is still alive? I imagine when she kicks the bucket it will be front page news! I googled it awhile back and didn't find she was dead! LOL

Well Frank lasted the longest with Barbara 22 years so they must have done some thing right!!

I was reading That Frank Sinatra Hated the song "Strangers in the Night."

He told people that it was about "two fags in a bar." LOL

He stepped into the recording studio on April 11 1966 to record what would be come one of his trademark songs none the less!

I am not sure if that was what the song was really about but being Frank hated the song so much I am sure that was his way of expressing it...I sure can't listen to the song anymore without thinking of what he said its about!! LOL

I actually have the CD in my car I am listening to at the moment so did some research on the song!!

Well, I think it's about the sexual revolution of the 60s--openly acknowledging the occurrence of one night stands.

Any of our gay friends have a take on it?

Well not being gay myself I was just doing some more reading on the song and it really doesn't say any real deep down meaning in why it was written.

I do know after 7 weeks on the charts it knocked "The Beatles" song "Paperback Writer" off the #1 spot and spent a week at #1 on the Hot 100.

It was also the first song in 1966 he recorded that year also!!

Have you ever heard "In the wee small hours?" Great CD!!!!!!!!!!

No, but have heard him do that song. He was best at those world-weary tunes I think.

Aw, for all the Frank bashing we've done...old blue eyes was the MAN!

Yes indeed he was!

I am thinking "In the wee small hours' was recorded after Ava had left him? Correct me if I am wrong! I know Frank went thru a period where they said his songs really had passion in them because alot of what he sang in the late 50's was his hurt from losing Ava and alot of his feeling from his songs reflected that!

You can almost feel the hurt in his voice!! I think the album would not have been half as good if Ava had not left him before recording it!!

I think they called them "Torch songs?"

I really Frank peaked vocal wise in the 50's and early 60's. I think after 1966 his voice started going down hill!!!

Frank Sinatra's last concert in 1994. The signs of Dementia is already setting in.

I do believe he did something in Palm Springs in 1995 but the above clip was his final concert tour ending in Japan.

I wonder why he didn't sing it in Japanese?

thanks for the link Danny. I read in a book about Frank at one of his later concerts he froze right in the middle of a song and got a confused look on his face. After being helped backstage he asked a stage hand "where the hell am i". I read Frank`s dementia got quite bad in his later years to the point he would be entertaining guests and 2 minutes later would ask them " Who the hell are you".

Yeah its sad sort of to watch the clip and see him not remembering the words to "My Way." I thought he used Teleprompters then so he would not forget the words?

I read he was VERY bad off the last year or two. Of course the family has never really came out but I hear at the end he had to be spoon fed and pretty much didn't know anyone anymore.

Yeah that was the big problem, Frank was a woosie...but his hulking bodyguards were not afraid to take care of people for Frank.

Two Bit Whore?

While visiting a club one evening, Frank Sinatra, who hated reporters as a general rule, spotted a female journalist who he particularly disliked. "You've been laying down for two dollars all your life," he snorted, stuffing two dollars into her drink.

Shortly thereafter, someone complained to Frank's mother about his rude behavior. She agreed that her son had made a mistake: namely, he had overpaid!

I was reading one of my death-hag books last night, "Celebrity Lies" by Boze Hadeleigh, and came across something a bit interesting. Apparently there was a rumor going around that Frank could have been Mia Farrow's father!

Supposedly Frank and actress Maureen O'Hara (Mia's mom) had an affair way back when - and it's was "hinted" that unbeknownst to everyone, Mia came out of the whole thing, but I guess Maureen wasn't sure if Frank - or whoever else she was sleeping with at the time was her daddy.

Incest is best I guess!

Maureen O'Sullivan was Mia's mom! Did the book actually say it was O'Hara? If so Boze needs a better fact-checker

The movie that saved Franks Career! I don't think he would have been as popular if it wasn't for this movie. His Career was pretty much in the toilet. I know at one point he told them he would pay them to appear in this movie.

He always told Ava this movie would put him back on top, and he was right.

Frank Sinatra-Peggy Lee casual jazz song

Just a nice talented duo.
Sinatra use to say if he turned out the lights with Peggy Lee he could pretend he was with Grace Kelley.

But damn Peggy could sing.

I loved the song he did in High Society with Celeste Holm

"Who wants to be a millionaire? Have Flashy flunkies everywhere..."

I read Sinatra: The Life not that long ago, and it's actually pretty good. Not Kitty Kelly type trash.

I think the author was spot on when he theorized that a lot of Frank's good deeds had more to do with being a big man in control than actual kindness. Not that he wasn't a decent human being (well... sorta kinda, halfway almost not a mobster decent), but he needed to feel like he was king shit all the time. I could see that.

One of my biggest regrets....not seeing him when I had the chance in Vegas because I thought the tickets were too expensive...and then losing as much as I would have paid for a ticket in about an hour in the casino. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I came across this, someone pissed Frank off enough once he sent them a tombstone with their name engraved on it

FEBRUARY 1957: Hearst Broadway columnist and CBS television personality Dorothy Kilgallen wrote a six-part series, "The Real Frank Sinatra Story," that purported to tell "heretofore unpublished episodes in Frankie's life." There was little new and even less substance in what came off as a typically mean-spirited hatchet job. Dad responded by taking personal digs at the columnist in his nightclub act. He even sent Kilgallen a tombstone with her name carved on it. That was too much even for some Sinatra admirers, including columnist Louis Sobol, who wrote that his response to her attacks was "in bad taste" and "inexcusable." But Dad would publicly criticize Kilgallen for the rest of her life.

My mom was a stunning, beautiful Swedish blond, with a pair of legs that didn't quit. One night she and my father were at Vegas show and she got up to use the bathroom. As she headed towards the back to go out, she heard loud cat calls from three guys who seemed to be feeling no pain. "Hey baby"!
(whistle, whistle). Mom looked towards all the ruckus to see who it was, and there sat Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. who had come to see the show late and were sitting in the back. I thought that was a cool story when she told me that.

I read/heard the following somewhere before... and I am paraphrasing here...

Ava's response to Frank and Mia's marriage....

Does anyone remember hearing about the incident that took place between Desi Arnaz and Frank Sinatra? Can't remember all of the details, but supposedly, Desi was in a famous restaurant drinking and was pretty wasted. Sinatra and his bodyguards approached him and told him he better knock it off. Apparently some of Sinatra's more colorful friends didn't like the way the gangsters were being portrayed on the T.V. show, "The Untouchables", which Desi produced though the Desilu studios. I guess Desi stood up and told Sinatra something like, "Don't tell me what to do you bum!", and then he belted Frank. Does anyone remember hearing about this?

And a pack of unfiltered Camels and a roll of new dimes. Apparently when Frank Junior was kidnapped he ran out of dimes making calls and from that time on he always carried a roll of dimes. I heard Nancy tell that story during an interview with Dick Cavette. I will look for it on Utube tonight.
