Apparently he is waiting for a lung...the condition that he has cause the lung tissue to become fibrous almost like scar tissue, so that restricts his breathing ability. Even though he is critical it all depends on where he falls on the transplant list and if any of the lungs that become available are a perfect match.. He may not make it long enough to receive new lungs.
Very sad...I loved Will Ferrell's parody of him on SNL, and that commercial for the nuts. My friend and I will often text one another, "It's 3 p.m., is Robert Goulet messing with the stuff on your desk?"
Wow, I had no idea. I just saw him in some commercials a couple months ago...
The Hotness..

I had no Idea!! Wasn't really a fan of the guys but that is sad none the less!!
Not a way for anyone to have to go thru!
Actually I only remember him from one of the police story movies!!!
Isn't he a Las Vegas regular?? I get him and Wayne Newton mixed up!!!
How can you get this

and this
http://i.imdb.com/Photos/Mptv/1150/5873_0003.jpg
mixed up?
And, yes, I tried to keep them age appropriate... it gets much worse for Wayne over Robert as time goes on
I've always enjoyed him as a Vegas entertainer, and I wish him well.
Whichever way it goes, he has had great innings.
Will be watching this space.
I didn't know he was that sick...I used to like him on the old variety shows in the 70s
Whenever I think of Robert Goulet, I think about how Elvis HATED him!!
I am not sure anyone ever knew why but Elvis couldn't stand Robert Goulet.
In fact, I believe it was Robert Goulet on the television screen when Elvis shot the tv.
I hope he recovers.
I'm putting on my flame retardant suit for this post. I'm sorry, but the man is 73 years old. In an interview with his wife, the doctors hope to extend that another 15 years. I don't see why lungs or any organ that could go to someone else go to famous or rich people first. I know its about money. It's not right.
At his age he will not get as much use out of a donated organ as a young person that hasn't had a chance at life yet. It pisses me off when 25 year old mothers or fathers or 10 year old kids can't get the organs they need because some old washed up rich person that's lived a full life can.
Ok off my soap box now with fire extinuguishers ready.
Red Ships of Spain!
There's nothing wrong with what you said. I have an aunt who's 80. She has one kidney - and it's not in great shape. The doctor wanted to put her on a wait list for a new one. She told him (and her family) that she was not going on the wait list. She said she lived her life, it was a good one and the kidney should go to give a young person a chance.
She's a great lady and certainly understands that you can't live forever.
Robert Goulet also did stage plays. I saw him years ago in Camelot on stage. We were in the 6th row. When the lights came on, he stood right there in front of us singing, what a beautiful voice! I also recall seeing those beautiful blue eyes...they were just stunning!! He was playing Arthur, and for his age, he didn't look half bad in those tights!!
My mom was with me and she remembers seeing Camelot onstage in years previous to this, and Robert played Lancelot then!
Actually I'm not going to flame you - just a bit of education.
Transplants have nothing to do with money except the fact you need to be able to pay for the rejection drugs after the operation. All transplants are double blind - the person getting and the family giving do not know each other. Furthermore UNOS (the people who "broker" the deal) only see a number and a list of criteria - nothing more. So even if Bruce Springsteen was on the list, UNOS would only know #3378A in Los Angeles was in need of a kidney.
Now what strikes me as odd here is that a 73-year-old man even made it to the list (if indeed he is on the list). Lungs, heart, and liver are a bitch and you have to be in your early 60s and in excellent health to be even considered.
And of course, who could ever forget Robert in his greatest role ever - The Red Ships of Spain!

Thing I never got was he was a young man singing old show tunes. How he ever got where he didis my only question. Nothing gainst him, but I would listen to that shit.

---I do bet rich old famous people get some preferential treatment but consider this...the donor and the recipient have to be a match. He will not be a match for a 10 year old kid's organ(s). And vice versa. It's not whomever's been in line longest.
Famous people do get preferential treatment because they always have insurance therefore can not only pay for the operation but also the expensive post surgery treatment and drugs which can run around $3000 per month retail.
And you are correct - it's not whomever's been in line longest. It who ever is the sickest that get's to the top. If you are in ICU in critical condition you will get the organ before someone waiting at home doing reasonably well. Given med treatments today people can be on the kidney list for 2-3 years before transplant.
According to TMZ...he's gone.
Death watch over.
yup hes gone according to breaking news on cbs ch 2 here in riverside county
It's up on Yahoo News:

RIP Mr. Goulet
A spokesman for actor/singer Robert Goulet confirmed to the AP that the singer has died in a Los Angeles hospital while awaiting a lung transplant. He was 73.
God I can't imagine what the poor guy was going thru with a breathing tube waiting to see if he would either get a lung or die!!
He had to be suffering!!!
RIP
He had to be suffering and his family must have been frantic...hoping and praying for a lung to save his life. I don't know what's more horrible, watching someone die without any hope or knowing there's a possibility and it's not forthcoming. Very sad.
Condolences to his family and friends. When he was married to Carol Lawrence they did the talk show circuit so we saw them very often. They told some funny stories about their lives and were such a cute couple.
