No problem! The old thread may be one of the biggest I've seen here.

Probably the only book I'd ever read about this whole thing would be if Judge Perry were to write one. I'm about 99.9% sure he won't ever, and may not be able to anyway, but that would be one interesting book.
So, anyone watched "Twelve Angry Men" lately????
Someone in the last thread mentioned something about the jury connecting the dots. I hate to say this, but they are discouraged from doing so. They are just suppose to focus on what is presented only.

I keep hearing from the talk show circuits these retired judges saying things like "justice and the truth are sometimes two different things" or "this shows the systems does work even if...." I don't buy that for a second.
I realize the jury was given instructions and I understand the theory behind reasonable doubt but that doesn't mean you check your common sense at the door. We know Caylee is dead. Either it happenned the way the defense said and dad is lying and you can reconcile the fact that niether dad or Casey called the police OR, Casey had something to do directly with Caylee's death either intentional or not intentional. I can buy that the prosecution did not prove intent beyond reasonable doubt but the other two charges related to her death should have stuck.
She said that she wants to have more children and she already got a porn deal. *facepalm*
link?
I haven't ... is it worth viewing?
I've watched both versions of True Grit, and the only thing that's been on my mind is lynching ...
I would read a book written by JP, whether it's about the trial or a general auto-bio. He has an interesting life story.
I'd also read a book written by a ghost writer for the juror's. I'd like to know both their process and experience with the trial.
Scott Peterson was sent to death row, and there was no crime scene, no cause or manner of death. All evidence was circumstantial. The jury still saw their way to the truth.

Ah. Vivid made her a offer. She will make more in a single interview on Oprah. Vivid just offered Pippa Middleton 5 million for one scene as well.
What pisses me off about the whole thing is this. Some are like big deal, whatever, jury did what they did and the end.
Ok hello, what about this innocent little girl that wasn't asked to be born into this world, whom wasn't even 3 (she didn't deserve to die, what she deserved was a family to love and support her like they should) And nothing is done about it. She layed in a field to rot, and now is buried or cremated, not because it was her time to leave this place, cause someone put her there.
And the coldness of some of the people just something else.
If this was my child, grandchild, neighbors child..etc I would make sure someone is responsible for this. Maybe its personal for me cause I was kid napped at 5 but manage to excape, and i can't imagine what my family and friends would have had to gone through if i hadn't ran away.
But god damn it, i would expect someone out there paying for my murder, if it was me laying in a pile of dirt. I am so upset and sick over the entire thing. And i welcome all opinions and comments, but i have read through so much shit in 24 hours on so many websites, news papers, magazines. Its like the passion of help your fellow man has turn to shit with the rest of this country. And no one is safe no matter what, unless your sucking someone off. I would at least think for a child, some compassion could be shown.
I hate unsolved cases especially with children. Adult crimes are horrible, don't get me wrong. But innocent little children, some not even 2 hours old on up, are being killed cause mommy/daddy just can't handle responsibility and are selfish fucks. And i guess in this country its ok to kill them and be like my daddy fingered me as a child so i just snapped.
What the fuck ever. Got a huge box of shitty corrupted people while there may be a hand full of good still left. Every day thats even disappearing.
Yeah, I don't get how they decided that she wasn't guilty even on lesser charges. Even if Caylee died the way the defense said, how could that not be involuntary manslaughter, negligence, reckless endangerment, etc? Caylee didn't commit suicide, she was murdered. If she drowned and it was staged to look like a murder, isn't that tampering with physical evidence? I guess all of the controversary will be good for selling all of the books that will be written by opportunistic vultures. Casey might as well go ahead and do porn. She obviously isn't real picky about how many men she has sex with and enjoys being a slut, so she might as well cash in on that. It is all sickening!

Dear Mommy...I see you smile down there below...are those tears of joy you show? I'm glad your happy, although you lied...I'd love to be right by your side...but by your choice, I view from above...tell my Grandparents I send my love...it's Beautiful here, is all I can say...your life will go on... without me in your way. Love Caylee XOXO.

One million ...
And if she refuses Vivid still has it's name before the public.
This was posted about 40 minutes ago on the Support Cindy Anthony section of Facebook: Word has it Casey may move to Houston with a distant relative of Cindys. Maybe a member of one of the Mexican drug cartel will behead her and tie her head up in black plastic bags like she did Caylee
I totally agree that "Twelve Angry Men" with Henry Fonda and a great cast is a fabulous movie. I've watched it numerous times, and I too recommend it. It showed people bringing all sorts of life perceptions into a jury room. I'm not saying that happened here, just talking about the movie.
I'll have to keep it in mind.
The jury was given 30 pages of instructions prior to deliberations. I would like to see a timeline and their process as a jury.
As to personal perceptions ... all human beings have bias. Credible studies in science are double blind. Good scientists understand they are subject to the same bias as the rest of us.
I checked IMDB ... Twelve Angry Men, originally a stage play, appears interesting, power of persuasion.

I don't want to give anything away (as far as the movie goes), but maybe there was more evidence....maybe not? Both highly circumstantial.
I really think anyone keeping up with this case would find this movie very interesting and I highly recommend watching it. It's an older movie, should be easy enough to find. TCM shows it a lot, but so do many other stations.
I wonder if it might better serve the jury system to provide an outline of possible ways in which to deliberate.
I am impressed with the way the Scott Peterson jury deliberated, (once the initial three problem juror's were dismissed).
Each brought their own perspective, expressed their feelings, but returned to linear deliberation.
Fellow Hags, please take a moment to sign this petition at http://www.change.org/petitions/create-caylees-law. A note from the website:
Caylee's Law, contact your Senator and Representative: there should be a new federal law created called Caylee's Law that will make it a federal offense for a parent or guardian to not notify law enforcement of a child going missing in a timely manner.
Let's keep another case like Caylee Anthony out of the courts.

I don't understand why we have Double Jeopardy. As I read a post which stated 'if perhaps there is a video of someone doing the crime, there should be some leeway for that person to be tried again'. I totally agree. Does it cost the state too much money to be tried again? Is THAT the reason why we have double jeopardy? - because it cost too much money to actually try her .. yet again. ?
ALSO: I did read on a facebook post that DJ did not actually apply here because of Caylee's Civil Rights. Can the Feds come in and do something about taking away Caylee's Civil Rights????
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Double jeopardy is to protect the accused from overzealous prosecutors who would try a case again and again until they got a jury to convict. I agree we should try to change it to exempt from double jeopardy for DNA, or video/photographic proof they did the crime.
Double jeopardy is what got Mel Ingnatow off scot free with murder here in the Louisville area. His accomplice turned state's evidence but was an unbelievable witness (like George?) After he was acquitted, the new owners of his house found the photo evidence the accomplice testified to under the carpet in the house, plus the victims jewelry. He then was charged with perjury & testified in that trial that he DID kill her. But he could only be charged w/perjury & serve that sentence. He got out and lived free for quite a few years before dying a few years ago.
The double jeopardy rule arises from the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution, the relevant clause of which reads: "[no person shall] be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb"[citation needed].
This clause is intended to limit abuse by the government in repeated prosecution for the same offense as a means of harassment or oppression. It is also in harmony with the common law concept of res judicata which prevents courts from relitigating issues which have already been the subject of a final judgment[citation needed].
More specifically, as stated in Ashe v. Swenson, 397 U.S. 436 (1970): "...when an issue of ultimate fact has once been determined by a valid and final judgment, that issue cannot again be litigated between the same parties in any future lawsuit." Res judicata is a term of general application. Underneath that conceptual umbrella is the concept of collateral estoppel. As applied to double jeopardy, the court will use collateral estoppel as its basis for forming an opinion[citation needed].
There are three essential protections included in the double jeopardy principle, which are:
This rule is occasionally referred to as a legal technicality because it allows defendants a defense that does not address whether the crime was actually committed. For example, were police to uncover new evidence conclusively proving the guilt of someone previously acquitted, there is little they can do because the defendant may not be tried again—at least not on the same or a substantially similar charge. Fong Foo v. United States, 369 U.S. 141 (1962)[citation needed].
- being tried for the same crime after an acquittal
- retrial after a conviction, unless the conviction has been reversed, vacated or otherwise nullified
- being punished multiple times for the same offense
Although the Fifth Amendment initially applied only to the federal government, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that the double jeopardy clause applies to the states as well through incorporation by the Fourteenth Amendment (Benton v. Maryland).
Jeopardy attaches in a jury trial once the jury and alternates are impaneled and sworn in. In a non-jury trial jeopardy attaches once the first evidence is put on which occurs when the first witness is sworn.[citati
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_jeopardy - there is a lot more info here. It talks about the concept of DJ internationally, you have to go down to the US part.
Protection against Double Jeopardy is a fundamental right under the Constitution. Trust me, it is an important part of our country we don't want to be without.
So if DNA or photo evidence comes up (as it did in Ingnatow) what could she be charged with that she was not already charged with and aquitted of? Tampering with evidence? Abuse of a corpse? Those were not in the charges were they? She didn't take the stand, so perjury is out.
Thank you for posting that about Double Jeopardy but I mean... does it cost too much money to re-try someone????
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
pyt...it costs A LOT!! The only way to retry someone is if there is a hung jury, not an aquittal. Or a reversal on appeal. Some prosecutors will retry, some won't. I myself believe the decision is about money, and if they felt they really didn't have a strong enough case that another jury would convict.
Another local case where THAT is involved is David Camm. He has had two convictions for triple murder overturned on appeal. The prosecutor IS going to try him a third time and the only gripes have been because of the money it is costing. 95% think he is guilty. I think I have heard if they reverve a conviction the third time, they cannot try him again.
Yeah but those who wrote it could not of forseen DNA and video evidence of the future. At the time, crime solving was pretty simple. The evidence was either there or it wasn't. You investigate all of the evidence and go from there. The only exception would be witnesses to change their testimony but that would be considered unreliable and thrown out.
I think you could maintain the spirit of the law but update it a little.
BTW, Double Jeopardy Good movie
- And for the Caylee's Civil Rights & the Feds coming in.... they would have to prove that she actually did it & I don't think people are willing to do that.
For anyone wanting Casey not to get money read: For Casey to NOT get money, Cindy & George would have to sue her so that any money she does make will go to them.... and they won't do that knowing how Caseys the best thing since sliced bread.
THE MOTHER OF THE ALLEGED DECEASED FATHER TO CAYLEE, COULD FILE A WRONGFUL DEATH LAWSUIT. Let's hope she does!!

Majcm, I saw your reference to Mel Ignatow, another sickening miscarriage of justice. I hope Casey is treated the same way Mel was after he was acquitted and returned to live in Louisville. I don't see that happening though. Mel lived out his final years as a hated, lonely man. When he died, his son even said that he hoped the controversary of the case would die with him and he hoped his dad's death would give closure to the people who hated him. I hope whoever the relative of Cindy is that may let Casey live there is careful with their cash, checkbook, and credit cards. There is no way that I would want someone like her living in my home and stealing me blind. If she was willing to steal from her grandparents, she would steal from anyone.
I read Tim Miller of TX Equasearch, is filing a lawsuit against Casey, George & Cindy & possibly Jose Baez for falsifying information. I hope this goes down!!! Shes even moving there!! HA

Vivid entertainment pulls their offer!!!! This is the best news!!! I have so much respect for vivid ent. Now

I hope Tim Miller does file a lawsuit against them. He went there in the beginning to try to help find Caylee and he was treated poorly by the Anthonys, especially Cindy. Tim is a honorable man and a real life hero. IMO
