Thread: Best Heavy Metal Bands

Aerosmith?!? Even when they rocked, they weren't metal. Meshuggah? Okay, fine, include a newer metal band on the list, but Meshuggah? Zep? Nah. Not metal. Can't argue with Sabbath at number one, but Priest should be second, Maiden third. AC/DC is a kickass rock and roll band, shouldn't be on that list. Not metal. Where's King's X? What about Rainbow? ARRRRGH! There's a reason why I avoided this thread.

I saw Shotgun Messiah right after "Heartbreak Boulevard" hit the radio. Worst...concert...ever. They played for about half an hour, and were outta there. And Timmy was in such a good mood, he yanked his wang out on stage. Uh, dude, it wasn't that cold in there. I was so looking forward to the show, and they were total assclowns.

I like White Lion (in the bottom 25 list). Vito Bratta is a great guitarist who was unlucky to have become popular near the end of the hair band era.

Jethro Tull aren't metal but then beat Metallica (the clue's in the name!) to a Grammy a few years back. Livid doesn't cover it. My faith in the Grammys was only restored when Slipknot won one a couple of years back. Just seeing them there alongside the great and good of music was hilarious.

Nice to see a shoutout for COC- Deliverance is my fave album!

I am quite happy to see that Winger did NOT make the Worst List, because actually, those guys are really damn talented. Sure, they hopped the LA Hair Band Train with gusto, knowing full well that it would be a wild but short ride and that they would be compromising some of their killer talent to do it. But they still managed to write and produce intricate, difficult, but wildly fun and popular music. They knew exactly what they were doing.

Kip Winger's solo stuff is heartbreaking and very, very different.

I'd say the best are Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, GnR, Sabbath, and Queensryche. My favorites, anyway.

I also love The Scorpions and Alice Cooper but don't consider them Metal. GnR is iffy, too. More hard rock than metal.
