I remember Billy Joel says about singing 'I like you just the way you are' that he say he almost falls asleep singing it. This is a song he wrote about his fist wife.
I guess whatever genuine feeling he had about her are gone.
Besides Annie's Song there Is another song that John wrote that also gave me chills.
That is 'Perhaps Love" by John Denver and sung as a duet with Placido Domingo.
This is part of the story behind this song
http://www.squidoo.com/perhapslove
When John Denver and his wife seperated and were moving toward divorce, John wrote this song while on a plane. He called Annie and sang it to her on the phone.
John said he was thinking of all the things that LOVE meant to him and all the images the word brought to his mind.
Obviously the love was still there.
Here are some of the lyrics from this song.
Perhaps love is like the ocean
Full of conflict, full of pain
Like a fire when it's cold outside
Thunder when it rains
If I should live forever
And all my dreams come true
My memories of love will be of you
Annie says this is her favorite song
Patty, that's so funny, googling John Denver was exactly how i found FAD too!
I loved him, too. Just one of those guys who made you feel good. Have met various people who crossed paths with him over the years....the consensus was, as one put it, "salt of the earth."
I was intrigued by the marriage to Cassie...she seemed like a bit of a striver, somehow....I take it she is not loved by his fans? Sexy gal though.
I love it best without Domingo....it is best with just John and the guitar...
Amazing that he had no recording contract, but really, all the music bigwigs care about is how much money the artist will make for them, and when John died, he was not bringing in the same cash he used to.....I read somewhere that he was really crushed when RCA dropped him--he had made millions for them, and they discarded him like an old shoe....
Along with Andy Williams he is one of my secret favourites. He was great.
Guest
"It's About Time" (1982) is still one of my favorite CD's (well, actually it was a vinyl album when I first bought it)--it was made when he and Annie were finally calling it quits and getting a divorce and you can really hear the pain....I saw him in concert around 1982 and got so much flak from friends about it, but seriously I have yet to see another artist play guitar and sing and really connect with an audience like he did....
I miss John Denver I think more than any other artist....he is so underrated as a songwriter, I think fifty years from now, people will be re-looking at his songs and seeing the brilliance all over again.....
I thought that this was probably the biggest slap in the face to John Denver when this happened. I heard about this other places, but I am using wikipedia as a source.
John founded his own environmental group, the Windstar Foundation. Denver had a keen interest in the causes of, and solution to, World Hunger, and visited Africa during the 1980s to witness first-hand the suffering caused by starvation and to work with African leaders towards solutions.
In 1983 and 1984 Denver hosted the annual Grammy Awards.
In the 1983 finale, Denver was joined on-stage by folk music legend Joan Baez with whom he led an all-star version of "Blowing in the Wind" and "Let The Sunshine In", joined by such diverse musical icons as Jennifer Warnes, Donna Summer and Rick James.
In 1985, John Denver offered to sing on the recording of "We are the World", but was turned down
I heard somewhere they never found his head
I remember Charlie Rich being unbelievably rude at an awards show when he insulted Denver for winning best country artist. At that time country musicians were very jealous of Denver's success. Charlie Rich has slipped into obscurity as a one hit wonder while Denver is now a superstar.
Yes, there's a video out there somewhere where John talks about his
pain of not being included in the We Are The World since he had so
long before been working toward the cause. Pretty sad.
And the Charlie Rich thing...well what a pig. That's all I can say
on that.
I've become kind of obsessed with Denver since going to Aspen last
year for the 10 year anniversary. Sadly due to schedule, I cannot go
this year. There's still so much love for this guy--I do believe he was
so geniune. I think if he had lived he would have seen some type of
resurgence, like Orbison had.
His later stuff was so great and his voice was getting better all the
time. I feel bad for all the great music we are missing out on.
And like most big Denver fans, we live with the dream that he and Annie
would end up together again and live happily ever after.
Cassie....nope no one cares much for her. She wasn't part of the dream.
I encourage anyone that might be interested to check out some of
his more obscure stuff. There's such great songs like Shipmates and
Cheyenne, This Old Guitar, Thirsty Boots, Children of the Universe,
Wandering Jesse, Wrangle Mountain Song, Eagle and The Hawk...
the list goes on and on.
There's a great video on Youtube of Jeff Pine doing Shipmates and
Cheyenne at Aspen last year, and at the end he says, "I miss you
John. Miss you". Quite moving.
[Cassie....nope no one cares much for her. She wasn't part of the dream.
Cassandra was less popular with the fans than Annie especially after
his death when she took legal action to try and reduce the amount of
money the two children from his first marriage would inherit.
I also don't believe the stories about how John all of a sudden took medical treatments to cure his infertility with Cassie.
Occuring to his agent and I will site the book ' The Last Days of Dead Celebrities" by Mitchell Fink, when Cassie turned up pregnant John just decided to acccept it. People were warning him about her.
She was the Heather Mills of her day.
Ya, I never understood that....how long after they were married
did she get pregnant? Wasn't John the reason that he and Annie
didn't have kids? I have no ideas what goes into fertility treatments
for men......
It'd be interesting to see a current photo of Jessiebelle. Wonder
if her myspace page is back up?
I never believed that Cassies child was Denvers.
Oh, NO DOUBT! It wouldn't even have taken that long. And just think how revered he would have been in today's eco-conscious society. He was so ahead of his time.
As for Cassandra....yeah, bit of a Heather vibe there, I do remember some gossip, but she did have something he once loved! Just because us fans all want him to be with Annie.....
just for all of you who want to know.

I think this medical treatment worked quite quickly!
I found a webpage on male infertilty if anyone wishes to challenge this go ahead.
http://www.advancedfertility.com/mal...ytreatment.htm
Men with low sperm counts or low motility often ask for treatment to correct the defect. Unfortunately, this is not often possible. Many cases of sperm abnormalities are genetic in origin. Since there is currently no way to correct such genetic defects, we end up working with the couple in ways that will (hopefully) increase their reproductive efficiency. This usually involves either intrauterine insemination, or in vitro fertilization (more below).
Hormone deficiencies
If the man has a hormonal deficiency, it might be treatable with medications. These are rare cases.
[Clomiphene citrate (Clomid, Serophene) for the infertile male]
Some men with relatively mild sperm abnormalities have been treated with clomiphene citrate (tablets) in an attempt to improve the semen. According to published medical literature, Clomid for the male sometimes can improve the sperm count or motility. However, well-controlled medical studies have shown no increase in pregnancy rates.
A "double blind" study (World Health Organization study, published in the International Journal of Andrology, 1992) of 190 couples, gave clomiphene or placebo ("sugar pills) to men with abnormal semen parameters. The men took either clomiphene or placebo for 6 months. Pregnancy rates were not increased with clomiphene:Infertility due to relatively mild to moderate sperm abnormalities can sometimes be successfully treated with ovarian stimulation of the woman in conjunction with intrauterine insemination. Moderate degrees of sperm abnormalities can also be treated with IUI, however, more often they will require in vitro fertilization in order to conceive. Severe sperm abnormalities require either in vitro fertilization with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) or donor sperm insemination, whichever the couple prefers.
81% pregnant in clomiphene group- 11.7% pregnant in placebo group

I found a current picture of Jesse Belle as well as current information about Cassandra and their life. I think she looks like her mother.

THEY made beautiful music together - and a daughter - now the ex-wife of the late John Denver has returned to live in Sydney and follow her own country singing dreams.
Cassandra Delaney Denver, who remained friendly with her former husband until his death in a plane crash a decade ago, has relocated from her long-time residence in Malibu to start a new life in Woolloomooloo.
The attractive actor and performer slipped home two months ago for the happy occasion of her brother Matt and his bride, Kate Simpkin's wedding.
Despite the breakdown of her relationship with the acclaimed singer songwriter, Denver's sister-in-law told Confidential "Cassie still had a beautiful friendship with (John). He still came over every week to see them.''
The pair fell in love in Sydney, after being introduced at the old Sebel Town House by showbiz king, Kevin Jacobsen.
The Rocky Mountain High man made Delaney his back-up singer so they tour the world and be together.
When their marriage foundered, Denver described the split "as the most painful experience of my life.''
His tragic and unexpected death, when his home-made plane ditched off the coast of California in October 1997, devastated her.
Shunning media attention, she quietly released her own CD, Give It Up To Love, four years ago, inspired by the relationship.
Denver's daughter is understood to have inherited her parents' creative genes, enrolling in a Sydney arts college, majoring in drawing.
Delaney Denver is said to be keen to perform at this year's Tamworth Country Music Festival and actively looking for work.

not for nothin..but John had features that you'd think would shine through..im not seeing any of him in his daughter..hmmmmm
John Denver's Twin Nephew's were babies when they were in the movie Ghostbuster's II
Here is one of the Twins and since they are twins we could guess what the other one looks like now. THe one's name is also Henry John Deutschendorf which is John Denver's real name.
Will and Hank Deutschendorf
Baby Oscar from Ghostbusters II
THEN
Hank
yeahh and see how much his nephew resembles him...great post!..i had no idea about the ghostbusters thing..you guys are oh so smart
Wow, Coconn, great photos....where are you getting them?
If you have an "IN" would you please tell Annie to write a book??!!!
I agree with Layla, the nephew looks alot more like John than
his daughter. Too bad we don't have a FAD hag in Aspen for some
inside information.
I think I read that AnnaKate got married recently and lives in California.
Zach still lives in Colorado. Annie lived just down under Starwood.
I wonder if she's still there?
Any more photos Coconn?
Interesting if Cassandra has settled in Woolloomoolloo, Now a gentrified suburb on the Harbour, near a great wharf...... where Russell Crowe and other gentry live!
What name does Jesse Belle Delaney go under?? That name?
I have been to the 3 major Art Schools in Sydney the one that specialises in Drawing is the National Art School, the others are Universities! She could have gone to any of them!
Cassandra has hardly set the Australian Country music world on fire LOL! ! Her music is very obscure......Ive never heard of it or heard it!
I dont think anyone was really bothered here much even when she was John Denvers wife, I only heard my Dad on the subject though! Wasnt Jackson Browne was married to an Australian woman as was Pierce Brosnan!

Long live Wikipedia! Jackson Browne was married to an Australian model called Lynne Sweeney from 1981 to 1983. Pierce Brosnas was married to Australian actress Cassandra Harris.
Some people just need a high five.... in the face.... with a chair...
I have just written three letters to Cassandra Delaney Denver. Wanna read them?
D. N. A.
Seriously, the People magazine that came out after John died mentioned that he and Cassie had an ugly divorce, that they fought a lot about Jessie Belle etc etc etc (all this was of course per "friends" but generally People is pretty reputable). I think she should drop the word "Denver" from her last name, and see how much attention she gets all by her little self.
I have no 'IN'.
I saw John in concert two weeks before his 2nd DUI and I thought he was a 'pro' despite what was going on in his personal life.
The thing about Annie writing a book, maybe I think she will do something very well balanced in her own time.
I don't think this will be a money thing for her.
Just a way to honor John's memory.
I give her an 'A' for doing this in past.
John , I thought was quite hard on himself in his book. I think he had a lot of guiltridden feelings in his life.
As for Jesse Belle, her legal name would be Deutschendorf, but who knows what she goes by.
I find it a melancholy task during research, this is where I find the pictures, as I find a lot of junk on the way.
When I am ready I will do some more.

heres a site i found where his lovely ex decided to tell how hard it was being married to him...since she was seen as such a b*tch..i have issues with someone airing their side of a story when the other party is gone and can't defend themself..and also when you have a kid with someone..this lady is pure class from what i can see..
http://www.bekkoame.ne.jp/~nisenora/cassy96.html
and not for nuttin..but why keep a mans name that was such a bastard to live with ya know..sheesh...i hate limelight ho's
Ooof....pretty harsh....but wasn't this interview given before he died?
Did he really admit to throttling Annie and chopping up the furniture? Sometimes the image doesn't match the reality.
The truth must lie somewhere in between.
I read the book. John had a temper know doubt about it.
People tend to exaggerate when they write these books.
Again, I think he was quite hard on himself and trying to prove he had a dark side.
Everybody does, only close friends and family see it.
John came home and was mad about some trees that were cut down. He try to scare Annie with a Chain saw but he never hurt her.
I saw Teri Garr on a book tour a few years ago.
SHe didn't have nice things to say about everyone ( I am looking at you Gene Wilder).
She said that John was one of the nicest people she ever worked with.
might have been b4 he died..still sucks tho lol
Both John and Annie admitted his "dark moods" in fact Annie said that often
his most beautiful songs came from those days. I think John was pretty
upfront about it. Based on the interviews after his death, it did not
affect Annie's respect for him.
Now as far as Cassie, I've seen another interview after his death where
she denies his drinking and their "problems". She makes it sound like they
were getting back together. Different story when there is money to
be divided.
If any of the Aspen rumors are true, John had a pretty good reason to
be pissed off at her. I don't see him as an abusive personality.
I think I said this before, but I will always remember the pain and emotion
in Annie's interviews after his death...she still loved him very much.
Watching a JD documentary now....he was a treasure, one entertainer I really miss, sob. Still can't believe what happened to him.
What channel, girlfriend?
PBS...."John Denver: A Song's Best Friend"
I was looking at some past articles about John's death and I thought it was interesting that Annie's sister Terri was the spokesperson for the press afterward.
Here are some of the things that she had to say.
"He loved flying," said Teri Martell, his former sister-in-law. "He died doing something he loved."
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/htmlConte...14/wden14.html
And this is from a report from CNN
Authorities confirmed Monday that singer John Denver, 53, died at the controls of a light plane which crashed Sunday off the coast of California.
The announcement was made following comments earlier in the day by his former sister-in-law.
Teri Martell, whose sister Annie was Denver's first wife, told CNN by phone from her home in Minnesota that, "Denver was a very experienced pilot," and that Annie was told he was practicing taking off and landing when the accident occurred Sunday shortly after 5 p.m..
Martell said she and Annie had a tearful conversation early Monday morning after learning of the accident.
He "meant a lot to many people around the world... his music will always be around, but most importantly he was a caring person and his music touched people of all ages," Martell told CNN.
This is one of the last pictures taken of Denver before he died.
Just plain wierd

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
I heart John Denver..........
John Denver has always been my favorite. When I was 3 years old I had told my parents I was marrying him and that was it. When he died I was so shook up...now we're coming up to Oct 12th and the anniversery of his death...it makes me so sad. I have almost all of his CD's, except one that has some songs on it I don't know and haven't heard before...so next paycheck I'm getting it!
Check out his song Rhymes & Reasons...that's my fave...the lyrics are beautiful.
Thanks to everyone who posted the links...especially the pictures of his kids and family.
RIP John! I still LOVE YOU!
John's mother is still alive. Why not do a tribute to her.
Erma Deutschendorf, mother - "I talked to John on Saturday morning before he went to California, and he said he would call me on Sunday. And then - I didn’t get the phone call."
This is Annie and Erma
This is a letter that John wrote Erma on her 75th birthday.
John Denver's letter to his mother, Erma Deutschendorf
on the occasion of her 75th birthday.
My dear Mother,
I have wanted to tell you today how very much I love you.
I wanted you to know how much you are respected and
appreciated by me. That I know how big your heart is, how
much you feel and how much you care. There are times that I
wish I could take you in my arms and hold you in a way that
would make you feel loved and cared for - that you would feel
safe and warm and really appreciated for the wonderful woman
you are. That you would feel understood and respected for all
the things that you do. That you wold know that someone else
knows how much love you have given of yourself beyond measure
- time and time again - not only to Dad and Ralph and Ron and
me, but also to our families and to so many others. I wanted
you to know what a blessing you have been in my life, and
through me to so many others. I would not be the man that I
am, nor would I be able to sing the way that I do, nor would I
have written the songs that I've written without the influence
and inspiration that you have been to me. I want you to know
that today there are hundreds, if not thousands of people who
join me in saying, "God bless the day that you were born."
Happy Birthday, Mom - and many more. I love you.
Your son, John XXOOOXXOO
Wow. For a mother to get a letter like that......I can't imagine what could make anyone happier. She must be so proud. Thank you Mrs. D., for giving us all John and his wonderful music.
Poor lady, what a terrible loss for her.
John Denver died on a Columbus Day weekend.
It was on October 12.
It seemed fitting because it was a weekend to honor explorers.
John lobbied to be one of the first citizens in space.
This honor went to a woman name Christa Mcauliffe.
John had a voice in a tribute to the Challenger tragedy.
This is the song.
It is called "On the Wings of a Dream"
Yesterday I had a dream about dying
About laying to rest and then flying
How the moment at hand is the only thing
We really own
And I lay in my bed and I wonder
After all has been said and is done for
Why is it thus we are here
And so soon we are gone
Here is the video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NOKyLgmYn0&feature=related
There are tributes to John Denver in places such as Rio Grande Park in Aspen.
I am sure he also wants you to remember others such as the ones on the Challenger flight.

I won't swear to being a huge John Denver fan - - concentrated doses of his music seem to raise my blood sugar - - but there's no denying that he was an excellent songwriter and musician.
His greatest talent, though, is one that's extraordinarily rare. As a performer he could totally captivate an audience. You may think that that's a common trait, but it's not. In my time in the critic business I saw hundreds and hundreds of concerts. I encountered about 5 performers with that talent. I saw him once in Madison Square Garden, and he left 20,000 people with a feeling of intimacy with him, as if you had just been sitting in his living room while he sang you a few songs. It was akin to mass hypnosis, and it left you feeling good. I was ready to go out and buy another of his albums, and I didn't even have to buy albums! (The record labels gave them to me.)
