I voted, but they don't need my vote... they've got this one sewn up... tight. I haven't watched one of these things in a long time, but I will just to see them get inducted. Music fads are funny and a bit fickle. I don't go for the auto-tune, boy band thing either. I wish it would die soon, but then rap hasn't died so I think my hopes will be dashed. Growing up on Led Zepplin and The Doors, I was 35 when grunge rocked it and my daughter was 15. We still love it, but we don't wear plaid anymore. It was an exciting time for the Pacific Northwest. I will never forget the energy, it was intoxicating in many ways.

Did I mention the real estate person said the family wants documentation before a person can even view the house? Letter of Intent and a financial statement from the bank. I guess everyone figured they would probably do that, but I had to find out for myself.
yeah, sure. anyone who has half a million in the bank, won't be interested in felony flats.
still boggles my mind. a half a million dollars.......somewhere kurt is laughing his ass off.

i've been to his house and the neighborhood looked pretty blue collar to me, i wouldn't describe it as "felony flats" perhaps it has changed since the old days?
I might take a jaunt up there next month and make the rounds... stop by the Hendrix Memorial, then cruise by the Cobain pad to check out the neighborhood. It's only another 2 hours in the saddle, lol! Maybe by then they'll be having an Open House. {snort}
take some pics!....that's the name the area had when kurt lived there. "felony flats'.....like "think of me " hill was where krist lived. they called it that....because in the past , there was a billboard with that on it.

You bet I will take pics... of the neighborhood, a selfie by the front door, by the "Come As You Are" sign, etc. It's been a few years since I've been up there - can't help but wonder what all they've done to the Hendrix Memorial by now, but that's another forum -lol! I'm anxious to see good ol' Aberdeen.
i go to aberdeen every few months for work...at the prison. poor aberdeen doesn't have a lot going on.
Aberdeen hasn't had much going on period.....just my opinion.
phineas gets up on soapbox......
if the powers that be, would get their head out of their collective....well you know....
and played UP the "kurt cobain was born here"....and "NIRVANA was formed here"....and actually
DID something for the fans that make the extra 2 hour trip from Seattle to Aberdeen....
they would have a landslide business.
they begrudging gave kurt a "landing" beside the young street bridge.....wouldn't even make it a "park"
wouldn't change the name of the bridge to "the kurt cobain bridge"....
and in general, would like to forget kurt ever existed.....let alone honor him in any fashion.
the "landing" thing was started privately. the city jumped on the bandwagon after the fact.
eventually , I will make it to Aberdeen. I will leave flowers at the landing (flowers I bought in seattle)
and I will not spend ONE DIME in Aberdeen!

Must be too far north and a bit too redneck to honor something like ROCK AND ROLL gods. That general area has/had an issue with honoring Hendrix appropriately too. But I do love that fans gather at his memorial every year on his birthday. Paul Allen's Experience Music Project added a Nirvana wing http://empmuseum.org/at-the-museum/c...he-masses.aspx. I'd like to go see that too.
Three studio albums to me isnt a HOF career.
true, three studio albums aren't much. but when one of them was "Nevermind"....makes a difference. Love them, or hate them...NIRVANA turned the music industry upside down. catchy melodies, great riffs, and they put on good concerts.
alot of people are downplaying Kiss on the RS site. they are HOF material. most definitely. there's not a loser on the whole list...
but everyone here knows, I'm partial. LOL

Let's see... They made me glad I am not young and listening to boy bands right now, Teen Spirit knocked Whacko Jacko out of the Billboard #1 spot, they made Great White not famous anymore, the Grunge fad didn't lighten my purse too much. Nirvana is Hall of Fame material to me!

to continue on with the Hall of Fame....on other sites, much has been said about krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl playing
(if they win)
that someone could play "with" them. and names being handed about.
personally? I don't think they should play....no one can sing those songs like kurt could.
it wouldn't be right.
someone made the suggestion that chad channing play drums, dave guitar and vocals, krist bass.
which brings up....is chad eligible to be in the HOF?

People's argument for Nirvana is "They changed music" or "They created the grunge movement" How? To me they were a Green River/Mudhoney rip off band. They didnt create anything that hast been done before. They were just marketed well. MTV and Rolling Stone magazine tells people what is hip and people just follow. Nevermind is a great album. In Utero has its moments and Bleach not so much.
I liked them but I didn't love them. Some of their songs have good memories for me and others have bad memories for me. I adore Dave Grohl and I empathize with Kurt Cobain, I don't think he wanted to be the quote-unquote "voice of a generation." He makes me sad, he is the big huge rock star death of my generation. (Him and Michael Jackson.) As I see it, Nirvana were the media darlings, the hit makers. Pearl Jam wrote great songs, Alice in Chains had a sound NO ONE else had, and Soundgarden had Chris Cornell's voice. They all brought something to the table. There were a ton of really, really good bands out at the time that never got and will never get the recognition they deserve, like Screaming Trees and Mother Love Bone and the Gits.

Well that is part of how music and culture are shaped. It may be a negative thing for people already familiar with the genre or social movement but to the mainstream it's their only exposure. Being marketed well is how the music spreads amongst the masses. Certainly they weren't the first. And few in the HOF were. I guess I'm a little torn over the stance of deservedness. Yes I know that's not a word.
I am the king of all things stupid!
I'm not even going to respond to the argument about HOF career, but Hendrix's 3 LPs did pop into my mind also. All I know is they very much fit the criteria no matter how their popularity came about. As far as Channing's eligibility to be part of the induction of Nirvana, I'm not sure exactly how past members of bands are selected and didn't find anything with a quick Google. I do know there is some controversy over which past members were selected when Fleetwood Mac was inducted. The internet conversations often revolve around which inducted member was responsible for a particular past member not being included in the induction, which leads me to believe that it's possible the band members decide. That's my limited knowledge of the question. Maybe others here have more information on how this works?
to me....NIRVANA took the "soft verse/loud chorus" thing from the Pixies, the punk/grunge/whatever from green river /mother love bone/mudhoney, the sheer pop/kischy show from the girl bands like shoen knife and raincoats, the hard rock from bad brains, scratch acid, and black flag.
added the beautiful melodies of kurt's, plus that scream of his........and combined all of these.
that was the difference. all these bands were great. NIRVANA combined what was great about them, and added their own stamp. kurt's lyrics, melody, and that scream.
not to mention that voice. you either love it or hate it.....but you knew it was kurt.

Love the Halloween pics! Hadn't seen those before, but there's probably a lot I haven't seen at this point. I fell in love with Nirvana and the grunge movement because it was a move back to the simpler form of rock music that I've loved for decades. I never cared much for overly produced music, rap or heavy metal hair bands and that's about all that had been going on back then. Grunge was a much welcomed form of music to my ears. Kurt could "scream" like no other... not only could he hold it in tune, but it was soulful in that you could almost hear the pain and feel the hurt. It was not a displeasing sound to me at all. I could feel his emotion and I think that's what it takes to make the all-important connection.

I used to see local bands in Chicago sometimes. I dated a guy who was best friends with a drummer in a band that tried like hell to make it big. They made it as far as the Rave in Milwaukee, and fizzled out. These guys had their own material, but sounded like warmed-over Metallica. We all know the evolution of rock n roll. Everything was taken from something. But making it big takes something that really works, good luck, or good connects. I have seen bands that had great musicians, but no stage presence.

Comparing Hendrix to Cobain is hilarious. Hendrix revolutionized the electric guitar, Cobain was a sloppy mess on it lol. Hendrix was a groundbreaker, Cobains biggest hits were outright rip offs.

Death Hag of Legend
I wasn't comparing kurt cobain to jimi hendrix. I mentioned that each band, jimi's Experience, and kurt's NIRVANA, had three studio albums each.
kurt wasn't a whiz on the guitar , no. at the most three power chords, but he made the most of them!
his talent was in the melodies.
no doubt, "come as you are" was a direct lift from killing joke's "eighties". kurt said that himself....just like "teen spirit" was a rip off of the pixies, and the intro from Boston's "more than a feeling".
every band "takes"......either from blues, folk, or the classics.
sorry, but NIRVANA deserves that place in the HOH.
and not just cause kurt decided to end his life in 1994.
the music stands. and there's a whole new generation of kids into it now, that weren't even BORN when kurt died.
not to say, kurt cobain couldn't, and was a d*ickhead alot of the time. he could be very nice, or hateful.
to quote scott,,"as we do"

Good God almighty! I wish them two would kiss and make up already! You can't choose your family, and sometimes you have to be the bigger person and reach out! Goes for both of them! It is just sad when it comes down to follow and unfollow.
