According to nndp.com, he died atop his mistress. If she'd been on top, would have died between mistress & matress!

So Nelson had a mistress? Wonder if she ever wrote a book?

I know he left her some money in his will and his people initially reported that he died at his office working on a book when he was actually at his townhouse, uh, working on other things.

The stories about his death are quite cloudy and contradictory. The girl who actually called the cops died suddenly and violently about a year later. The actual tart, Meghan Marshak, seems to have also vanished from the face of the earth. Some people believe that Nelson actually died that day from a bullet to the head. Seems that there was a very big and very unhappy Columbian customer of Chase Manhattan bank who held Nelson responsible for a VERY large deposit slip that 'went missing'.

The Chase was the Rockefeller's bank.

I cant remember but wasnt "Happy" his 2nd wife? Did he not leave his first her? I remember that he booted his wife of 32 yrs for Happy who was also married. I think that any person who married a person they were cheating with would know if he had a mistress and was cheating on you LOL

    Megan MarshackBornOctober 1953 (1953-10)
CaliforniaOccupationNews writer, producer WCBS-TVMegan Ruth Marshack[1] (born October 1953,[2] in California) was an aide to former Vice President Nelson Rockefeller and was with him when he died, in January 1979.[3]
She worked on Rockefeller's vice-presidential staff, in Washington, D.C., for two years.[4] There was speculation in the press regarding the nature of the relationship between Rockefeller and Marshack. For example, long-time Rockefeller aide Joe Persico claimed in the PBS documentary about the Rockefeller family, "It became known that he had been alone with a young woman who worked for him, in undeniably intimate circumstances, and in the course of that evening had died from a heart attack."[5] News organizations widely reported that Marshack was a named beneficiary in his will, though the bulk of his estate was left to his wife with other large gifts going to museums.[6]
Prior to her employment with Rockefeller, she was a radio news reporter for the Associated Press.[7]
Marshack has remained largely out of the public eye since 1979. In 1981, it was noted that she was working as a vacation relief news writer for the six o'clock and 11 o'clock news on WCBS-TV in New York.[8] In 1992, it was reported that she was still living in New York working as a news writer for WCBS-TV, but the Washington Post noted she declined to comment, saying "I don't do interviews."[9] According to newspapers in September 1994, she was a news writer and producer at WCBS-TV.[10] In December 2008 Parade reported that Marshack married a journalist and was living in Southern California.[11]

Rockefeller was a moderate Governor in New York State. Like other politicians, millionaires, people in powerful offices, he screwed around. He wanted to be President, and lost out to Nixon. I think it's fair to say, he was at his most powerful as NY Governor. He did a lot of good in that role.
    So it goes....

Cudos for venturing into the jungles of New Guinea. I wouldn't go in there for all the tea in China. There is a reason why white people live in compounds surrounded by 20ft masonry walls topped with razor wire. And that is in the suburbs of Port Moresby, the capital city!!!!!!

Thanks for that. What a great story. I would very much have liked to have meet him if he was still alive, he would have been fascinating to talk to.

I read somewhere that Nelson's official spokesman claimed he died while sitting at his desk yet the police and paramedics found him nekked as a jaybird in an "uncompromising position" with his mistress. Who should we believe-Rockefeller's personal stooge or the police and paramedics who were actually at the scene? I hope Nelson died with a smile on his face.

When I first heard he was to be cremated, I actually joked that "It's because they couldn't wipe the smile off his face." Though, in truth, it may have been a grimace... He allegedly was sprawled there for an hour before an ambulance was finally called. Who knows how long it took him to die completely, assuming he died of WHAT they said he died, WHEN they said he died?

His body was also not autopsied, and, unusually for a public figure from those days, and against his family tradition, Rockefeller was rather hurriedly cremated. To this day, his "grave" is apparently quite difficult to find in the vast Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, NY.

The Colonial-style headstone in the fuzzy picture on his Findagrave page seems to have vanished, or is deep in that snow, hidden by bushes.

Megan Marshack disappeared from public view almost as quickly, and Ponchitta Pierce, who was called in by Marshack when Rockefelller first collapsed, has never spoken about exactly what transpired. This, of course, has led to delicious, never-to-be-solved conspiracy theories.

Just read: A Savage Harvest: A Tale of Cannibals, Colonialism, and Michael Rockefeller's Tragic Quest for Primitive Art by Carl Hoffman.

The author does an intensive investigation into Michael Rockefeller's 1961 death in New Guinea. MR was there filming a documentary on native art. He was 23 and had just graduated Harvard. MR comes across as a nice guy but somewhat naive.

The book goes into a long description of the area's history/culture which is tedious at times. The last chapters are the best when the author finally gets to MR's last days/hours.

The Rockefeller family did not investigate MR's death. Others did - the Dutch government and some local priests. The author uses official records/diaries and interviews to conclude that MR was a victim of cannibalism.

The author visits the village where MR was killed and discovers the reason for his death. They are long and complicated involving tribal conflicts/colonialism. MR was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It wasn't personal.

MR was declared dead in 1966. His net worth was $660,000 at the time of his death.

Lets have a book on Nelson's death.
