Gavin Smith - Fox Movie Exec

He's been missing since May 1, but they have now changed his case from missing persons to homicide. Doesn't seem to be a lot of information yet, I don't even know what they know, but they have searched a house twice and removed a bunch of stuff. I always wonder how they surmise someone is dead without a body. I know they sometimes withhold information from the public. Anyway, it's a mystery for now, I'm going to keep my eye on it.

Gosh, that's weird! Handsome looking man. If he was into criminal behavior, drug abuse, or even if he had mental issues, that would probably have come to light by now, so it certainly looks like he's become a victim. Hope they locate him soon.

I'm not familiar with "Deadline.com" as a news source, but I thought it was strange that the writer, Nikki Finke, referred to herself in the first person throughout the article. Maybe it's more of a blog thing. Or maybe old-fashioned journalism is going through some changes!

It just occurred to me that this thread should probably be moved to Police Blotter or Everything Else, since he's not confirmed dead yet (although it has officially changed from a missing-person investigation to homicide)...

I debated whether to put it there but since they officially changed it to homicide I figured they must know something about him being dead.
I had never heard of that site either, I followed a link from either a London or NY paper's site and just thought it was interesting. I guess I should google at some point to see if there is more information out there. I was following links all over this place on all kinds of stuff this morning.

eta: I just did some searching and there are lots of articles on cbs, huffpost, etc.. and you are right he was good looking. Really had that CA boy look. I guess he was involved in the distribution of Star Wars and Avatar, and also played basketball for UCLA. He was 6'6" tall. If he's out there somewhere you'd think he'd be hard to miss.

This link says that he had an affair with a woman whose house was search by the cops.

The plot thickens. Maybe they think the husband might have something to do with it.

Yeah, it does! And it looks like the husband is into meth, dealing it at least. He's in jail now. I can't believe they have issued 20 search warrants and still don't know much after a month!

Yeah something smells a bit off. He's probably dead and buried somewhere. Maybe they found proof that he was dead but can't disclose in case it messes up the investigation.

If he's 6'6" it'd have to be a bloody big hole

Don't have to dig a hole in L.A.. Just drive a couple hours out to the desert and dump the body. Just have to make sure you have a big enough car trunk.

He's probably going to end up in a desert. Someone obviously doesn't want him to be found. I'd say its the husband.

They found Smith's car, and the condition of it led them to reclassify the case as a homicide investigation.

Really sad. Sure took long enough to find the car...but it sounds like authorities have been carefully building a case over time, since they say they have evidence from/in several locations.
Methinks John Creech had one of his druggie associates do away with Smith. I hope authorities can connect all the dots so the guilty parties are held responsible.

I agree Mirror, I think John Creech had something to do with it.

I suspect Chandrika is the focus of the investigation and not John.

"A jury found Monday that a drug dealer crushed the skull of a movie studio executive who had been having an affair with his wife, burying him in a shallow desert grave that would go undiscovered for two years, authorities said.

The Los Angeles County Superior Court jury rejected first- or second-degree murder but convicted John Creech, 44, of voluntary manslaughter for the beating death of Gavin Smith, 57, a 20th Century Fox distribution executive, five years ago."

Considering savagery of the killing, buried the body, lied to Smith's sons about their dad's whereabouts, was estranged from his wife anyway and the charge reduced to manslaughter, this drug dealer got off easy. In 11 years he'll be free again.

I felt it was Creech all along.
