    Harper Lee - 89

Harper Lee - author "To Kill A Mockingbird" - arguably (but not by much) greatest novel of the 20th century - has died at the age of 89

I'm glad she was around to see the success of 'Go Set a Watchman'.

    Very sad news, RIP.

I already deleted that thread, so I moved this one here. The next time, instead of starting a new thread, let one of us know and we will move it to the right section.

I thought it was cool that she was friends with Truman Capote. 'To Kill a Mockingbird' is one of my all time favorite books. RIP!

Me too. It was Mockingbird and Macbeth that let me pass my Standard Grade in English so it's always been a favorite of mine.

"Mockingbird" was a brave look at who Americans are or could be. I loved the novel, while the film was wonderful, but not to the novel. I think Harper Lee was merely happy to have told the story that she lived. It's a perfect book.

That it is, and it is being banned again ... ridiculous ! http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/...strict-w509085

"To Kill A Mockingbird" may be the greatest American novel.

One thing for sure: she was able to coast her entire career on the strength of that book. Much like J.D. Salinger with Catcher In The Rye. It's like they both had one book in them and nothing else to say after that. Either that or terminal writer's block.

Has anyone read the new book To Set A Watchman, I think it's called, was going to buy a copy when it first came out at the local book store but they wanted like 50 bucks, Still going back and forth on if I should buy it or not.

It's actually called Go Set A Watchman. I have not read it and I don't plan to since it's more of an AU than a true sequel.
