    Ib Melchior - 97

Ib Jorgen Melchior - a name near and dear to the hearts of sci-fi and fantasy film lovers of a certain age - has died at the age of 97.

Taking two literary classics and setting them in the future, Melchior co-wrote the screenplay for the 1964 film Robinson Crusoe on Mars, which he followed with The Time Travelers - an adapation of HG Wells' "The Time Machine".

He also wrote and directed The Angry Red Planet, and wrote the script for Reptilicus. His short story "The Racer" was made into Death Race 2000 in 1975.

Another idea was for "Space Family Robinson", which he pitched to several producers as well as CBS; a short time afterwards, Irwin Allen's Lost in Space debuted on CBS. Melchior consulted an attorney, but was afraid he would be blackballed and never pursued a suit.

Not a pure sci-fi fan and don't recognize his name, but I loved some of his work. RIP
