I just saw this as posted by the Tim Samaras/Twistex FB page since he was in the movie Twister. WSJ updated about 10 minutes ago, and I can't find any other place that's saying he's dead yet.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman was found dead Sunday in a New York City apartment of a reported drug overdose.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... the actor was found Sunday morning inside of his Greenwich apartment ... and they're still on scene investigating.

Details surrounding his death are unclear ... but the actor had struggled with drug problems ... most recently checking himself into a rehab facility for heroin back in May.

As we previously reported ... Hoffman had been clean for 23 years but fell off the wagon in 2012.

    Story developing ...

    Couldn't control those demons.......such a shame RIP.
To my Father. Even though you have crossed the plane, you will always be with me.
You were not just my Father, but my hero. My life has been a poor attempt to be like you
You taught me music, vocals, and how to fight. I can only hope I am half the man you are
When I close my eyes I can see you. And finally, Thank you Dad. for everything.

Fuck...such a fantastic actor and so many more great roles in him. I was hooked on watching him when I first saw 'The Talented Mr Ripley' back in the '90s. Such a loss.

    Interesting:
Beat Heath Ledger for an Academy Award for Best Actor in 2005 for his title role inCapote (2005), and then lost to the late actor for the Best Supporting Actor in 2008 to Ledger's performance in The Dark Knight (2008).

Atleast he died doing what he loved. Better than getting hit by a bus.

Absolutely loved his work in The Big Lebowski.

Wow... 3 threads AT the same exact time! You FAD hags are on it! A friend just told me he was found with the needle still in his arm, but I don't know how she knew that. Every year we suffer the loss of someone who had everything going for them, yet give it all away due to what ever internal demons they are battling. Another big loss

Just noting he had two daughters and a son with his long time partner. Maybe it was his genius as Capote, I always thought he batted for the other side..... Makes it even sadder. I did see him interviewed (well speaking at the London Film Institute) last year and I thought then he was either ridiculously nervous and ill at ease or on drugs. I leaned towards the latter the longer it went on......

My opinion. He seemed to be making the same stupid decision over and over and with three kids IMO that's moronic. Once? Twice? Over and over? There is a difference.

He was a great actor. I always liked him in whatever he did. He could play cruel and indifferent very well - as well as goofball. Regardless, why do people even start with the drugs? Especially people in the entertainment business. Drug and alcohol abuse has claimed so many of them.

He was an outstanding actor. I hate that we won't get to see him repeat his Oscar win. My favorite roles of his are from Cold Mountain and Pirate Radio.

Dang, that's too bad. I thought he was a great actor. Wonder what happened to make him fall off?! That's even more tragic. I'm a firm believer that past the age of 40, drug and alcohol use need to be seriously curtailed, particularly if one was a user earlier in life. But the Stones? Makes me wonder if tales of their on-going drug use are more urban legend than reality. Then there's my great aunt... Chained Lucky Strikes and Smirnoff until they put her in the home, then dead with the year at 90.

Loved him. He was good in everything he did. I thought he was brilliant in "Capote," and he was always good in those independent films such as "State and Main." I'll miss his quality work.

Good God! Like Fentanyl or Heroin need any help. I mean just how high do you want to be that you'd mix those 2? I guess they figure death is the ultimate high.

I had wondered that. It said there were 5 empty bags and 2 unused bags with him. I've never done/seen heroin. Wouldn't 5 bags be a lot? I guess it doesn't mean that he did them all at once but if he was in the bathroom... maybe he did. I am curious to hear more about this envelope.
