Thread: Alicia Silverstone feeds son by spitting food into his mouth

I wonder if the person who would even suggest eating placenta has eaten it themselves? You would have to be somewhat abnormal to even be able to bring up such a subject without gagging. I don't want to know what a person would prepare for side dishes to go along with their placenta meal. That teeters on the edge of cannibalism to me.

I think the umbilical cords are yucky looking, too. My husband did really well when our son was being born until he got a good look at the cord and placenta. The placenta nearly caused him to hit the floor. I think it grossed him out to see so many bloody masses exit from somewhere that kept him entertained before!

I just had an image flash by of a woman sprinkling fresh oregano on her placenta, then snacking on it and trying to floss with the umbilical cord afterwards. I think I need a different migraine prescription. :P
My ex-husband always complained about the "weirdness" of Alicia Silverstone's mouth/lips (it's like she's kinda doing a Courtney Stodden thing 24/7 without trying to...any internet-savvy death hags up for finding a photo?). Maybe her lips are part beak, which could help explain the mastication thing. :P

Feed the placenta through your pasta machine and stir fry with water chestnuts, snow peas and cashew nuts.

What? You guys have never done this??

The stomach churns at the thought.

There's actually a name for this - it's called "placentophagy".

Although the placenta is revered in many cultures, very few customarily eat the placenta after the newborn's birth. Those who advocate placentophagy in humans believe that eating the placenta prevents postpartum depression and other pregnancy complications[3]. Obstetrician and spokesperson for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Maggie Blott disputes the post-natal depression theory, stating there is no medical reason to eat the placenta; "Animals eat their placenta to get nutrition - but when people are already well-nourished, there is no benefit, there is no reason to do it."

I've heard of freezing wedding cake and even birthday cake, but a placenta? Gag me with a spoon.

Probably added them to her weekly facial treatment.

Lets seen now....if that helps to keep her looking young, and 30 years from now when many of us might be chatting with those that have gone before us....and she is still feeding her young in the same manner....oh, never mind. I'm making myself sick and Dec. 2012 is beginning to look like a nice reality...By

If you'd been through all the scary medical ordeals he has been through then you'd probably enjoy cuddling with those you feel safe with, too. He's been called a mama's boy and worse for his affection towards me (he still enjoys holding my hand in public, he will still hug and kiss me in front of his friends and gladly proclaim to the world just how much he loves me) but he's happy and healthy and sweet and that's all that matters in this f-ed up world we live in. Would I bird-feed my children? If I had to. Do I think she's weird of gross for doing so? Nope. She's a mother and doing what she feels she needs to do in order to be a good mother.

Would you people freak out as much if you saw an infant not protected in a car seat while being transported in a moving vehicle? I admit that I did what Alicia did once, and my son is 22 years old and healthy! So, string me up by my thumbs!!!

First, I am not being snotty here....trust me! No I would not freak out if I saw a child unprotected in a car or sitting in the drivers lap a-la Brittany Spears....I would very calmly call the proper authorities but, first get the plate number. I would also do this if I saw a pet in the car alone with all the windows rolled up, in fact I might smash the window depending on the outside temp. Second, you said you did this once. So that doesn't sound like a practice to me and I bet you didn't film it for the world like it was a teaching demo. It would be a private moment between mommy and child. Also in retrospect I think my mother might have done this too back in the very early 50's, but it would have been meat, and she would have then placed it on my plate, not given it to me mouth to mouth. To each his own, and like so many other situations, such as sending under age individuals to prison for life...it depends on the circumstances, what is fact and what is conjecture and the reason for the act.

My mate Alex would. Though I don't think it is classified as 'food'.

Oh come on people...you don't need to be Einstein to know that's going to require years of therapy down the road.

Kid - "and then she lunged at me, her mouth agape and half full of partially chewed Big Mac"
Therapist - "How did that make you feel?"

I am sorry I don't care if she has a (Ph.D). I think she needs a shrink. Sounds to me like the girl couldn't get tickets on the next shuttle out so she is using her home as a spaceship. She doesn't use diapers? She taught the kids hand signals before they could talk to let them know they have to go pee-pee? Then they hold the kid over a bucket? Really???? That must make venturing into the outside world a problem. She wouldn't be visiting my mother's home anytime soon. By the way this is not the first time I have heard of this.....If I remember correctly that is the way the nanny for the Sedgwick trained their off-spring.

They only have one bed in the home for the four of them? Are they planning to have more? If so they are creating them where? Will they at least get a bigger bed. Will they allow the boy's to ever have a room of their own or will they carry this practice over into their teens. I hope I am still alive when that happens cause I want to read the book.

She is home schooling the boys in the nicely contained grounded flying saucer? I can see these children are learning wonderful people skills. Sure they will get along great with the outside world....Gee, I don't know maybe I am doing too much speed reading and I missed the positive parts.....HELP!!

Ok, whoa ho oh oh... WHOOOA. Omgosh, I finally watched the video, and that was NOT what I was expecting to see... It is absolutely disgusting! I'm all for natural, organic, breast-feeding, and all that good stuff... It was bad enough when I thought she was spitting the food onto a spoon and feeding it to him (even that would be somewhat acceptable), but, to put your mouth up to your child like that... It is weird and totally uncalled for.

And, someone posted some info earlier about the health benefits of this- I can NOT imagine, I don't care what those specialists say, that this is in any way healthy. The human mouth is full of germs, viruses, and diseases... That's all the poor kid is going to get. Not to mention, an unusual desire to put an open mouth and tongue to his mother's mouth.

Does she think she is a bird? And yes, the placenta thing, i don't get it either. I know some people like to bury it as well but no, not for me.
