Shocked. Sad. I used to watch The Monkees when their TV series aired during the 60s. Local radio stations would have band wars between them and the Beatles. RIP Davy

Oh, noooooo! Not Davy! My pre-teen heart belonged to the Monkees back during the 60's. Watched every show religiously and listened to their albums over and over and over. Their photos were plastered all over my bedroom wall, though they were eventually replaced by Jim Morrison, Jefferson Airplane, Moody Blues, Santana, etc.

When Davy gets to Heaven, my dad will roll his eyes and my mom will tell him to "turn down the volume, please". RIP Davy, thanks for all the good times.

Lol -- it's pretty hefty. But I tried it a few years ago and the thing still works! Just shows how good Betamax technology was. VHS never measured up.

I remember watching them on Nickelodeon all the time, and listening to their cassettes. 66 is too young -- I never saw this coming

Oh, I could hide... 'neath the wings... of the bluebird as she sings....

The Monkees were a little before my time but I used to watch The Monkees reruns after school. I always thought Davey was just dreamy. R.I.P. Davey

Some great video links in this MSNBC story, including footage of a great Monkees interview last year with Al Roker.

My Dad was in the army so I spent most of my childhood living in Germany, watching the Monkees show reruns was a highlight of my week.
    Very sad, RIP Davy.

    From CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2012/02/29/showbi...html?hpt=hp_t3

"That David has stepped beyond my view causes me the sadness that it does many of you," Nesmith posted on his Facebook page Wednesday. "I will miss him, but I won't abandon him to mortality ... David's spirit and soul live well in my heart, among all the lovely people, who remember with me the good times, and the healing times, that were created for so many, including us."

Horribly disappointed! I used to watch the monkees as a kid, but I also remember his appearance on Boy Meets World as Reg, Reginald Fairfield!

But in a way, how cool is it to die today as its a leap year?

This is so sad and strange! We had just been talking about The Monkees a few days ago (by way of the show Big Time Rush, which my 7 year old son loves, copying their style). My daughter hadn't seen any of their show, so we watched the first episode on YouTube, and it was hilarious! As funny and goofy as I remembered. Such a great show, and Davy was such a cutie, always saving the princess and whatnot! A lot of great musical montages, too.

And of course, who can forget Marsha and Davy!

My heart is totally broken. I was supposed to marry him, well that's what I thought when I was 5 years old. I was going to marry Davy Jones. Sigh. The closest I got to marrying him was touching him. In 1997 I saw him at Hampton Beach Ballroom and Casino. He came off the stage and was walking on all the tables and he walked on our table, leaned down and shook my hand!!!

I can't believe he's gone. He was so young.

I just read this on the People site and I too am stunned and crushed! I had the biggest crush on him also. The Monkees were such a part of my early teens. Saw him perform a couple of times in the last few years. He was great. A part of my childhood has died. My favorite song of his is "Daydream Believer" Truly RIP Davy Jones!

Man alive, or should I say dead.
Last night driving back from work I was channel surfing the satellite radio and Pleasant Valley Sunday came on and I thought the "there's a '60's band (if you could call them that) in which all of the band is still around" and just a few minutes ago I heard Davy Jones died. Wow. I thought he would be the last to go.

David Bowie had to change his name when he got started because he was born David Jones.

Now I'll be monitoring this post for a last alive photo and a box shot.

Damn, now that would have been a great concert for me and my brother. About the only two artists/groups we both ever liked at the same time.

WOW, Just got home and saw this on the computer. A lot of girls had crushes on Davy Jones (i liked him but I was a Mike Nesmith girl). Whenever I saw him through the years, he looked healthy, aged well, and retained some of the handsomeness and spirit of his youth. 66 is too young to go and i would have pegged him as the last one to go from the Monkees. Somewhere he's playing Marx Brothers-type pranks on the deities.
