I also taped the show back in the eighties when it was shown on Sky Channel in Europe. Also on betamax! I loved the show then and I still do now. My favourite Monkee remains Mike, but I liked them all. Very sad to hear that he passed away.

I am so glad this thread is continuing. I thought there might be only a few posts. Good to know he was so well liked.

just got home. I was watching the Monkee's marathon over my friends house. Man that brought back memories. I used to watch it with my older brother (the reruns) when I was about 9 or 10 and that was back in the 80's. we had a blast and i thought it made for a great saturday evening! RIP Davy, I'm still shocked about it!

I'm sorry and I hope you don't take this as me being mean, maybe just a thought on most people we comment and I've done it to, but why do we naturally think its they took drugs...he may have been clean for years, (I personally don't know)...and now we think it might be a heart attack from Viagra.....I know as most death hags do, we want the story to be some drama thing, maybe he just had a heart attack...I does happen....I had one....I'm also a little peeved that Davey got a few days of mourning yet they are still talking about Whitney....Davey deserved just as much attention....he was actually still performing, whitney had not but was trying to....and as I said, I'm not saying to be mean it just jumped out at me at the moment. :P
I agree. Sometimes people do just have a heart attack and die. Doesn't always have to be drama/drug induced. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in this country, I don't find it all that suprising when someone succumbs to one because of that fact.

As for Davey not being mourned long enough...eh, I think that's typical. People are more interested in train wrecks than people that did their job and seemingly had their shit together (rumors of drug abuse and abusive relationships aside). I'd rather see three days of someone being geniunely mourned than a whole bunch of fakery that goes on for weeks.

    Greetings everyone......

Though, I'm not new to the woods,,, I am to this neck of them.. I have been a fan of many of you for quite some time..

As a youth I had 3 heroes my Dad, Superman and Davy Jones....

OK,, so I did some checking and noticed that it seemed extreamly rare to find a picture or otherwise of Mr. Jones that is actually signed Davy Jones.. I have only seen it once and that was his full name and 'Davy' under it... Hmmmmmmm?
Yep, Davy was my favorite.. Now I will have to like Mike,,,, yep, Micky drives me nuts , with those faces and hats!!!! Yeah there's Peter,,, but who likes Peter?

Not sure if anybody posted but Mike Nesmith's Mom created "liquid paper" Yep,,, sold it for 49 million to Gillette in the 80's and she died like 3 month after.. Hmmm?

One thing I knew for along time found cool,,, but then got sad when I heard the news about Davy..... You could still find his actual phone number to this very day in the phone book for the house he lived in... I should have called him... Just for the heck of it ,, ya know? sniff.....

BBM. There seriously is not enough word for this post. Perfectly expressed.

RIP, Davy. Somewhere, a girl named Shirley Thistlethwaite is mourning you deeply.

    Welcome!

I'm surprised he left his phone number listed! Just shows again how down to earth he was. A true class act, from what I've always read.

BTW, I actually really like Peter. I had a crush on him for a long time as well. Oh heck, I had crushes on all of them lol.

Peter was a sweet hippie with a heart of gold. How could you not like him?? Mike, eh, I don't understand the Mike lovers but hey, to each his own. I loved Mickey the best. A sense of humor is sexy. He had a great voice, too. But Davy was just swoon-worthy (and was til he fell over). I loved it when his and another girl's eyes would sparkle when their eyes met on the show.

I'm outraged that hardly a day was given to mourn him and people are still boo-hooing about the bitchy diva WH. UGH. The Monkees have made me so happy my whole life and DJ is just gone too soon. I like to think he was fun in the sack. Short guys usually over-compensate in some way

First I loved Peter and Michael, I really liked all of them actually. Watched them every chance I got. Talk of him having chest pains the night before, all I can say is I had chest pains for 3 years, a million tests they said it was not my heart until I finally did have one. I would imagine if he went to the hospital they would have checked him out more then like me and send me home thinking I was crazy. Doctors are not always right. I hope he didn't suffer long. A heart attack is like nothing else you've ever expiernced. RIP Davey.

I think, and this is a first, that I do NOT want to see Davy in his casket. I mean, this is REAAAALLLLLY a first. I've lost loved ones and seen them.....I've seen the celeb casket pics..........but this one would make me sad. OR I'd look at it. I don't know. I've never really questioned it before now. I WANT MY MONKEE BACK, GATDAMMIT. THIS IS NOT RIGHT. IT'S WRONG. IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN. Just a feeling. He was, by his own admission, a heavy drinker. He looked kind of puffy in the face and around the belly in the past few years. I wonder if booze contributed to it? I read Mickey Dolenz's book and I don't remember him saying they were into the coke scene. But he may not have wanted to write that. 66 is just awfully young.

Love it. I will think of Davy like this now too.

As I mentioned, I met him summer of 86. I was 18. I am 5'11". Davy, I would guess was about 5'2" - I could be off an inch or two. Didnt matter to me

I was so saddened by this news! I loved Davy so much, and like a lot of you I watched the re runs in the 80's. I was actually head over heels for Peter ( I love a dummy ) but I loved little Davy too.

Diverse child, I was.) I had THEEEE WORST crush on Micky but Davy was the close second. Got to see them in '86 at Great America in Santa Clara. A whole '60's show with Gary Puckett, the Grass Roots and The Monkees headlining. It was so awesome! I dragged my poor aunt along and she actually had a ball! I also got to see Mike Nesmith at one of his solo concerts. He was really good but I wish he'd decided to tour with the rest of them at least one more time.

R.I.P Davy. Thanks for the music and the laughter. You will be dearly missed.
I went to the same tour, with Gary Puckett and the Grass Roots. I think I was 12. One of the few things I did with my dad after my parents got divorced. I still remember being up in the balcony and getting the concert program. I wonder if I still have that somewhere at my mom's house. I was so excited. I wonder if my dad even liked the Monkees, lol.

    lmao that was funny!
Davy was a handsome little guy. I really loved Mickey, I remember being so depressed when I found out they were so much older than they were on the show. I was watching the re-runs on MTV in the 80s. After the concert Mike was my favorite for a while because he wasn't at the concert. Same thing happened with the Kids in the Hall. I have always been a major Bruce McCulloch fan but after seeing their tapings and meeting them all twice except Kevin, Kevin became my favorite for a while.

Did ya know Mike wrote "Diffrent Drum" sung by Linda Ronstadt,, dijda didja ? Won the 1st. Grammy for a video too. [ok,, the bar was low back then] He is like the 5th. smartest person in the world... < that one may not be true]... Yes,, Davey was AMAZING!!! He had talent and boyish charm well into his 60's and with him out of the way Mike may one day sit in the Oval Office...... He might have to tie his shoe during the tour.....

If any of you get on the air TV there is a channel on weekends that airs a 1950's show called Circus Boy. Mickey Dolenz plays the boy. He is blond in this and he is billed as "Mickey Braddock".

HERE is the part the media isn't talking about. Davy Jones was in an abusive relationship with his 35 year old wife.

At least he wasns't the one doing the beating. Sad that his wife abused him though, but I guess he was happy.

That is so sad. He stated it's his life and he doesn't want to be alone. Hell, he could have called me, I'm a nice person who has never hit anybody in my life! I read his daughters were against the marriage and tried to stop it and when they couldn't, didn't attend the wedding. Living with her must have been very stressful and probably contributed to his heart attack.

OMG!!!!! That bitch was beatin' up my DAVY????????? I don't know what kind of poontang would make emotional and physical abuse tolerable. It makes sense, though. He said he'd never had so much sex in his life...not even on the road with the Monkees. That 'tang must have been made of gold. I bet she brainwashed him with her love cave. I can't believe someone was hurting him. She LOOKS like a fucking bitch. His brain was so filled with SEX, he wasn't going to let her go anywhere. She knew exactly what she was doing. Bitch.

Even if his death was simply a heart attack and not poisoning as my over-active imagination first pictured, I agree, she probably contributed to his death because of the constant stress of living with that bitch. Something about her eyes just gives me bad vibes. It's sad this is how things ended up for him. I just hope he didn't leave everything to her and the daughters don't have to contest the will, etc.

Lets hope, if the abuse is true, that he kept his wife out of the will.

If he didn't want to be alone, like 1karenhb, I would have been more than willing to hang with him too. Poor guy. He seemed like a nice person, he didn't deserve to be treated badly.

Here's another clip of the Monkees (minus Mike of course) on a European show less than a year ago. I didn't realize they did a 45th anniversary tour too! They look so much older than I've ever seen them here!

Before I even clicked the link, I suspected the reason the other three wouldn't attend his funeral was due to the attention it would bring. It's a considerate gesture on their part. But maybe there is a more sininster reason? Maybe Davy's wife doesn't want them there? Maybe the other members of the band saw through her charade?

    Just speculating.

According to TMZ, Davy's remains are to be cremated but funeral plans are still TBA. I'm wondering if there is infighting between his daughters/wife over the disposition of his remains. I remember reading he wanted to be buried next to parents in England. He bought a plot years ago. Me thinks Jessica Pacheco-Jones is a bitch.

So devastated about Davy Jones...he seemed eternally youthful and was such a cutie...even as he aged, he still seemed youthful and remained good looking. I sooo loved the Monkees when I was young!
Am I a kook for crying for the last few days? It's like a part of my childhood has just died as well. I'm just very sad...
Now today, I am reading about his wife, 33 years younger...? She was verbally and physically abusive to him? Why in the world would he tolerate that? He said he didn't want to be alone, but I'm sure he could have found a more age-appropriate woman who would have been thrilled to be with him! She looks nasty...watched a few Dr. Phil clips today, and she was such a shrew. This makes me sad that he spent his final years with such a creep. I really hope there was more to her than what meets the eye, and that he did have some happiness in his last years.

I live in town called Bloomfield, in northern new jersey, they were playing in this mobbed up bar called The Jetty back in the 70's, probable 75 or 74.. When they were done playing that night they came out the side door, I wanted a AG from him but I couldn't reach him from where I was so I remember climbing up on the hood of this car and smacked him in the head with my hand while yelling for Autograph.. Lol! Dumb move! Couldn't tell if he was pissed or shocked at me but the look in his eye was priceless!! Never got his AG, that sucked! He was small guy, like 5 ft!

Wifey probably wants him cremated to destroy any possible evidence.

I have a feeling there's a lot of inside fighting going on between the "grieving widow" and his family, which might explain why it's taken so long to get the funeral together. It'll all come out someday, probably when they have to take her to court to get their rightful inheritance. Maybe I'm wrong, but this whole thing screams future Lifetime movie.

Second families can make death a nasty business. My great uncle died last year and he`d been with his second wife for 58 years (whereas he`d spent only 3 with wife one), but his children from his first marriage and his first wife tried their damnedest to take over his final hospital care and his funeral.

I can understand that tensions run high when there`s divorce involved, but someone who loved ALL OF YOU. just died. Get over it.

This wife has been married to him less than 3 years and was known to be abusive towards him.
She was the one who told his fellow bandmates not to come to the funeral because of media attention. How could you not invite someone's friends to the funeral. Davy Jones said the his kids and Mickey's would often get together.
Davy wanted to be buried next to his parents and now he is cremated and who knows where he will be buried.

    This is SO sad.

My great-grandfather ran off with the 35-years-younger housekeeper and wound up dead (murdered, my mom thinks..."food poisoning") and his fortune gone. But he was 85 at the time and just buried his wife of 65 years... This was DAVY JONES!!! How could he possibly not know he could have any woman in the world he wanted???!!!

Funny, I can handle pictures and videos of anything; blood, guts, gore - but those Dr. Phil videos I can't bear to watch because I'd get too upset.

I have been a fan of his since my childhood and my first album was the Birds, the Bees and the Monkees. I have the show on DVD, along with the CDs, the box set and even Head.

Don't know if this has been posted, but here's Davy and his wife on Dr. Phil back in April.

    Is he still above ground???
I am curious if the other members will perform at a memorial. Also liked what Mike Nesmith said about David. Especially because they weren't that close to say the least.
