    ValuJet Flight 592

Did not see that this had its own thread .. I knew a few people who were in this crash. They went to my church (when I went). Also seems like the Nat Geo disaster show will have this on the next show.

Flight 592 was a flight that crashed on May 11, 1996 en route from Miami International Airport in Miami, Florida, United States, to William B. Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia. The crash was a large factor in undermining the credibility of the low-cost carrier ValuJet Airlines, now known as AirTran Airways.

The only good thing was that everyone was unconcious when the plane crashed.

My best friend lost his mother and sister on that flight.

To this day, I will never, ever fly on Air Tran airways, which is the name that ValuJet changed to after mergers and the whole disaster.

I don't think so. I don't even think the recovered very much of the plane. It hit the swamp so hard that it broke into a million pieces that then got sucked into the swamp.

More details. I guess the biggest thing they found was a knee.

I believe Rodney Harrison of the San Diego Chargers was on board. Too sad.

No, he is still alive. I do remember there being a football player or relative of a football player, or somebody like that on board.

There were no remains available for my friend's mum and sister. There was only a memorial service held for them back here in Michigan (and it was one of the most gut-wrenching services I'd ever been to).

I read somewhere years ago, that Petite Miss USA(or America, I forget) was also on the flight.

I would suspect sadly the wildlife of the swamp probably got to the remains pretty fast - faster than aid.

I do NOT like flying .. this crash is only one of the reasons .. but I have flown AirTran twice and they were some of the best flights I have been on. The pilots were always really funny.

Fugitive wanted in 1996 ValuJet crash has Atlanta ties

The FBI recently released age-progressed images of Mauro Ociel Valenzuela-Reyes, a fugitive in the 1996 crash of a ValuJet Flight 592 near Miami, who may also have ties to Atlanta.

He is alleged to have played a role in the crash of the plane. He worked for the airline’s maintenance contractor, SabreTech, and faces federal criminal charges after crash investigators determined he mishandled oxygen generators that were placed in the DC-9’s cargo hold. The generators, missing their required safety caps, ignited in the cargo area, leading to the crash. I wasn't even aware they were looking for a fugitive regarding the crash until I came here, I doubt he's even in the country anymore...
