heheehe! Just watching her show makes my blood pressure go up... I'm already on meds for that and cannot eat anything that is made on her show, though I'll admit a lot of it looks very tasty. In the pic of her on the lawsuit article, is it me or is she looking a bit like she has shed some weight??

I simply cannot bear Ms. Deen.
Received some Deen cookware (licensed and made in China) for Christmas and promptly returned it for something else.

Lots of juicy yet unsubstantiated accusations in the pdf of the complaint.
    Yes unsubstantiated.

That was what I was thinking, disgruntled employee getting some payback. Like you, if it is true, it is repulsive. For me, the jury is out on her for the moment.

I actually read the deposition today and it sounds like she said/did some pretty horrible things. I'm not very surprised.

Wonder why the short video of her trying to
apologize was cut up so much.

She missed her big chance not going on the live
American morning tv show and talking from her heart.

Couldn't happen to a nicer person. I've always disliked her fake a$$. And the fact that she didn't seem to understand why people might be offended by her using the n word and asking black wait staff to dress as slaves... who's that clueless except a racist?

I wouldn't be surprised like Michael Richards
(Kramer on Seinfeld) who also talked racist
    garbage.

Her career will soon be over.

Good example of the bigger they are, the harder they fall. Not only did she lose her TV stint, but anything with her name on it will be taken off the shelves. Her hubby may have to start working as a boat captain again.

I'm all for Paula being called out for her remarks, but when will the double standard stop? You have comedians like Chris Rock who constantly use the "N" word, call white people "crackers", etc. If this kind of crap is going to stop, it has to be called out on BOTH sides. A double standard isn't going to cut it.

Take it one step further, when is Bill Mahr going to be jerked off of tv for calling a child a retard?

Y'all need to understand that we really do talk like that down here.

We are just being efficient with language; why use two words, "you" and "all" when we can just say y'all?

I've never intentionally watched her show but I've come across it; I used to like to watch Emeril; he has some great recipes and I've eaten in a couple of his restaurants; it was all good.

So how many of us have NEVER used a racial slur without meaning to sound disrespecting or be a racist?

I won't even attempt to list some or all of those words; I'm not going there.

I was standing in line at a McDonalds the other night and a young Black woman behind the counter told another young Black woman that she "smelled like a White woman"; I was both slightly amused and slightly offended by that racist remark; but I just let it go.

I always thought Paula over-did the southern accent. It never seemed natural to me. Kind of like those "Hopper" commercials where they're using overdone Boston accents. Trying too hard. That's my perception of Paula. She tries to hard to be southern.

Yep. Her voice drives me insane. I am from the south and we say y'all, but not like that. Hers is just obviously forced.

Really dislike those Hopper commercials. Ended up with one of the stuffed kangaroos they were giving away tho and it's adorable with a baby in the pouch.

It is the same thing with gays. Go to a gar bar and chances are very very good one would hear such things as..."..oh he is such a queen !!" "..oh what a FAG !!".."..stop acting like a silly faggot..".."....what a dyke !!"...now if someone who is straight uses those words...the HORROR !!. For the record I am a gay man myself. If I had one dollar every time I heard other gay men and women use those words I could actually retire !!!!!!

Wouldn't that be the same type of deal where it's alright if I call my sister a whore, but would likely kick someone else's ass if they called her that?

As far as her accent, I am from New Orleans, and we do say "yall" down here, but we really don't have strong Southern accents being from the city, but I have heard some Southern accents from near and far that are so heavy that it barely sounds like they are speaking English at all. That's not counting these thick Cajun accents people out here on the bayous have, which I sometimes can't understand and I spoke French as a small child.

Really, no one could live on any restaurant or fast food on a daily basis , the ingredients aren't healthy and the portions are way too big. I consider most of Paula's recipes for special occasions or holidays. The food is much too rich.

I have a hard time with that. Maybe it's white-straight guilt.
I don't think just because a black person uses the "n" word, that it's ok for me to use it. I don't think if a gay person uses "f" or "q", that it's ok for me to use it. These are derogatory words; I think that, more often than not, they are intended to hurt people. I think there is a difference, when a person within that community uses those terms -- and it doesn't make it right that they do, but they are not as offensive as they would be if I used them.
Maybe I'm wrong for thinking that way.

If I understand you correctly, it is different if a black person calls another black person the n word because of their intent? Someone else calling them that would be different because it is meant in a derogatory way? If that's what you mean, then I agree. I think the intent of a person makes a difference. I see teenagers of all races refer to each other as niggas on Facebook and none of their friends of different races seem offended by it. I definitely see the point of view for the other side, too.

I wonder what Oprah thinks of all this. She gave Paula an interview about a year ago. Her and Gayle went and stayed at Paula's for a weekend or something. I think Paula is finished after this - first the diabetes scandal and now this.

This questionable lawsuit has turned into a witch trial. Paula has to recall and account for every instance of her use of off-color slurs? I suppose this has some relevance to the case brought forth by Lisa Jackson (who mentions one instance of the use of racial slurs by Paula in her complaint). Too bad stupid the pc mob doesnt understand hte difference between the use of language in private convo vs public and workplace environment and exercises a zero tolerance policy that does not allow for nuance context interpretation and common sense. Too bad being accused of something means adverse repercussions and condemnation before the veracity of the accusations has been determined before youve had a chance to represent yourself and you suffer even before the case has gone to trial. Too bad gossip columnists talk show hosts bloggers and stupid ignorant average American idiots prejudge people based on double standard social mores instilled by three and a half decades of white guilt tv programming. I dont believe its acceptable to use racial slurs or derogatory cultural terms in the workplace. I still do it though. I guess I have a good rapport with my coworkers who are intelligent tough skinned and have a great sense of humor. Could bite me in the ass I suppose. I never use the language to insult or harass. Regardless it still violates company policy. I can slightly commiserate with Lisa Jacksons predicament assuming its an honest and valid complaint. Who do you complain to if the owner founder and CEO of the company utters the word nigger in your conversation with her and her brother is downloading porn in the office you share with him?
The complainant (Miss Jackson) wrote a letter praising Paula and her brother for giving her career opportunities she never imagined and stating that she loves working for the company. Deens lawyer issued a statement that Ms. Jackson threatened to ruin Deens reputation unless she was give a large sum of money shortly before she resigned from her job.

Lisa Jackson is also a white woman.
Not that theres anything wrong with that.

As far as gays calling each other faggot queer bitch or whatever. Im a gay dude. I do it all the time. Its fine. If another gay dude or a good friend responds in kind then yeah Im cool. You dont know me and you call me fag? I'll engage and interact with you under the assumption you are using it as a general insult and not a very specific derogatory comment (I'm a big guy - 230 hairy and very butch not immediately recognizable as being gay). Call me (or my gay friends) fag when you know we are gay and its intended to be an insult Im gonna be offended and get wildly belligerent. Im white I would never call a black person a nigger in anger and as an offensive objectifying word. Im even hesitant to use it jokingly around my black gay best friend of the past 22 years.
I dont get offended when some sports guy or other celebrity uses the term fag to denigrate an enemy as a general insult nonspecific to sexuality. Thats silly. Like getting angry over Paula Deen dropping "nigger" in a convo 20 years ago that you were not privy to. Get over it.
Call me "Fag" to my face or my best friend "Boy" to his face as a contemptuous cross-cultural affront then fuck you its on.

This is just my opinion, but why are people automatically branded a racist when using any kind of slur? I always thought a racist was when a person hated a certain race, ethnic group, or religion. I am not a fan of Paula Deen at all, but it seems like no one can make any type of slur nowadays without being called a racist.

They act like they don't know what anyone is talking about when we ask why they are talking like that.

My guess- attention. They want to play up the "good old girl" act. Georgians have a beautiful accent naturally so I'm not sure why Paula Dean is doing it other than attention.

I've also seen her lick cooking spoons and knives and then stick them back into whatever she was stirring.
Never saw her show or had much interest in the woman but I would venture to guess her accent is an effort to "mimic" mos accents have two flavors; cultured or not I would guess she really is a hick trying to mimic what she perceives as a cultured southern accent not even necessarily Georgian but the fake shit you hear in movies. As an Ohioan I frequently shift between City & country accents depending on my audience.

I do that when the Jehovah's Witness guys come zooming up to me on their bikes, asking if they can help me do something when I'm working on stuff outside. While giving them an impossible task like riding their bikes to the Walmart to pick up pine trees "that I need next" (I do not.). Using my Minnesota gramma accent. They always ride off after an ok, bye then.

Ichles, you're one of my favorite fags. Wanna thumb wrestle?

As for Paula Deen, I haven't followed this mess and I'm not going to. But I've always found her to be more of a fame whore than a chef. Like Martha Stewart.

Sissy watches Paula Deen and so I catch a minute or two when I go down for something or other. I can't hear her voice so I don't know about the accent. I do use ya'll, ya'll. Name: rofl.gif

Size: 11.1 KB But no more than anyone uses you all. To me, "ya'll listen to this ya'll" is too much, and I'm Southern born and bred--though I admit I have repented of some of the bred. Most celebrities are famers. Doesn't bother me, to each their own.

The thing is, come ooooon, the person who is innocent of racial slurs--or any type of wrong doing--may cast the first stone. I am not talking about people here on this forum, because we have no power over the consequences of what she admitted doing 20 years ago (and celebrities are fair game on FAD, Rule 4), okay? I'm talking about that Jackson woman and the folks on Food Network, et al. Sheesh. She admitted it and apologized for it. Was she sincere? Maybe, maybe not, that's on her. Is she a good person? I don't know, and I won't judge her. Now if she had said the n word in recent times, I could understand the storm, but 20 years ago? Nope, that's ridiculous.

Also remember she wanted a Southern Plantation themed
wedding a few years ago, with just middle aged black men
in black ties and white jackets to work it.

Note to Paula Deen, and all other rich privileged white
people this is not the 1950s anymore.

    Words have consequences.

This^ - - you put it much more eloquently than I could. This is how I feel also.

This is a witch hunt. Black rappers use the n word all the time. I'm sick of the double standard.

The black took the n-word back and use it as a form of "affection" between each other, "Nigga please", "Hey nigga - whassup?".

The n-word when used by white people towards black is a deragotory form of prejudice.

Two wiggers calling each other the n-word is down-right ignorant and lame.

So excuse me but is what we are supposed to do to keep things okay is just lie to appease people? Thats what you get for being honest. She was simply asked a simple question & told the truth. Isn't the truth supposed to "set you free" ? I won't be watching Food Network anytime soon
