For centuries, a parent's love for their child/ren knows no bounds. I hope this family didn't suffer and the end was mercifully quick. I'd like to think that we live in less barbaric times, but sadly, we don't. (the massacres in Rwanda come to mind)

I don't know why, but going off on a tangent this made me think of the Aztecs and their religion which demanded human sacrifice. Children were often chosen because of their youth and innocence which would please their gods. If a family's child was chosen it was considered a great honour and a celebration, not a time of mourning...

I've often thought of how those poor little souls must have been so dreadfully frightened and terrified as they were taken up to a mountain top or a temple to meet their demise...although I think they were drugged, so hopefully they weren't too aware of what was going to happen to them...bless them...

    Oh my god. That's amazing.

I would have never known the nuclear family was such an ancient concept.

Further proof, the family that plays together stays together! Great find... thank you for sharing it, Rosa.
