    Dennis Nilsen

    Hi all

Not been on for ages (Bizzy Bizzy Bizzy!!)

Thought I might point out that this guy Dennis Nilsen is due out this month (I can't find that he has his own thread)

He was given a 25 years sentence in Nov 83
Whilst this was changed to Whole Life later on, the Home secretary at the time changed the law again so there is every possibility that he may be free (Though I do doubt it) for Christmas!

I think this is who Jeffrey Dahmer got his ideas from.

I do love a serial killer!!

Well it isn't official just a possibility as he was convicted 25 years ago today and given a 25 year sentance.

I think he is actually in Broadmoor (Instution for the Criminally Bonkers!!!)
so i do doubt that he will walk amongst us again

    however
i am astonished that the time has flown by so fast since he was sent down.

he lived in Muswell Hill when he was caught which is not at all far from where i lived (with my Mum Dad & Brother) at the time.

the book "Killing for company" is a good insight in to him and his crimes. i recall that he had a really cute do which ws put to sleep after his arrest and i was more upset aout the dog than i was about the poor men that were Murdered!

I read a lot on this case. Hope he stays in Broadmoor - and then goes to hell where he belongs.

what really sucks is that so many of his victims are listed as "unidentified".

WTF???!!! I don't get this. This guy shouldn't even be breathing, let alone let out onto the streets. He's very bold with his personal requests - just proves he's in the wrong place - he should be in a mental ward for life since England doesn't have the death penalty.

"Nilsen's minimum term was set at 25 years by the trial judge, but the Home Secretary later imposed a whole life tariff, which meant he would never be released. After the Home Secretary was stripped of his powers to set minimum terms in November 2002, however, Nilsen could be freed on life licence as early as 2008 because of his original 25-year minimum sentence. His case could also be helped if a European Court of Human Rights case—currently being considered—[update needed] outlaws lifelong imprisonment as a violation of human rights. In 1993, he was given permission to give a televised interview from prison."

    AND...

"During his time in prison he has proved a thorn in the side of prison authorities, bringing judicial review proceedings over Whitemoor prison's decision not to allow him access to gay pornography. This application was refused by the single judge at the permission stage. He did not establish that there was any arguable case that a breach of his human rights had occurred, nor that the prison’s rules were discriminatory. He also failed to receive any greater access to such materials as a result. In 2003, he brought a further Judicial Review over a decision not to allow him to publish his autobiography, titled The History of a Drowning Boy.[3] Nilsen is awaiting an appeal on this decision at the European Court of Human Rights."

I'm currently watching a Dramatised Documentary on this guy on STV (regionalised version of the british ITV). I'm shocked and a little dissappointed in myself that I hadnt heard of him before given the enormity of his crimes. Cant believe they would ever have considered him for release!

My daughters mum told me about 10 years or so ago that her dad used to drink with Dennis Nilsen around the time of the murders.

Her family lived in Cricklewood for years and before they moved back to Ireland about 3 years ago and their road was about 5 minutes walk from Melrose Avenue where Dennis Nilsen committed all of those murders.

Being so close to home, I have read all of the books ('Killing for company' is a great but disturbing read) and also stood outside the building where his flat was on numerous occasions.

I'd be extremely shocked and surprised if he was released out into any community again and if he was, surely he would be under surveillance to ensure he didn't re-offend.

There is no real life for him outside of jail realistically, so considering him for release would be pointless in my opinion.

I am not even sure how he would qualify for a pension, given that he is now 65 years old and wouldn't have been making any National Insurance contributions for at least the last 25 years.

God, it must have been weird for him to think that he drank with a murderer! I dont know that he'd get any peace if he was released. You just know that one of the tabloids would reveal his whereabouts (like they did with that guy who killed a bunch of people with an axe - his name unfortunately escapes me).

Someone needs to do to him what they did to Dahmer. Gack him while he's in prison! Save the taxpayers some money.

Yeah it must have been bizarre....especially as on the face of things, Nilsen came across as just an ordinary kind of guy who worked at a job centre in Kentish Town.

They used to drink together in what was then known at the Cricklewood Arms pub, which was where Nilsen met an Irish labourer who was his 6th victim.

Interestingly, my daughters granddad was also in the building trade and had his own construction company that was based from their large house in Cricklewood at about this time. It makes me wonder whether the Irish labourer that he killed might also have been known to him, although he never mentioned anything to me about that and neither did my daughters mum.

Nilsen's house at Melrose Place in Cricklewood was where he killed his first 12 victims in a three year period between 1978 - 1981.

He then moved to Muswell Hill which is just over 5 miles from Cricklewood and killed a further 3 victims before being caught when the drains became blocked with body parts that he had flushed down the toilet.

In some ways, he was actually worse than Jeffrey Dahmer although someone rightly pointed out that their MO was quite similar. Dahmer's victim count stands at 17, whereas Nilsen has been credited with 15 murders (known victim count in both cases).

Nilsen actually used to bury his victims under the floorboards in a similar manner to John Wayne Gacy and would often dig them up after periods of six months or so and have sex with them.

It's interesting that people like Nilsen, Dahmer, Gacy and even Gein all operated in somewhat similar fashion and had the similar kind of mindset whilst living in totally different areas of America and England.

Most psychological studies draw the conclusion that childhood upbringing is responsible for these behavioral traits and the killers always seem to point to these past issues themselves, but it does also make you wonder whether studies of the brains from these individuals has revealed another type of common denominator into what makes them choose such actions.

Many people are badly treated as children or get exposed to horrendous things, but not all of them turn into crazed serial killers, so it makes you wonder whether there is some kind of brain anomaly consistent in these people that they are born with.

Dennis Nilsen's 'Flat of Horrors' For Sale

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...k-265-000.html For those unfamiliar with him this is part of his Wiki entry: (born 23 November 1945) is a serial killer and necrophiliac, also known as the Muswell Hill Murdererand the Kindly Killer, who committed the murders of 15 young men in London, England, between 1978 and 1983. He retained his victims' bodies for extended periods of time before dissecting their remains and disposing of them via burning or flushing the remains down a lavatory. Nilsen was convicted at the Old Bailey in November 1983 of six counts of murder and two of attempted murder and is currently incarcerated at the HMP Full Sutton maximum security prison in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England.Nilsen became known as the Muswell Hill Murderer as his later murders, which led to his detection, were committed at his home at 23 Cranley Gardens in the Muswell Hill district of North London. The description Kindly Killer came from his own belief that his method of murder, strangulation and drowning, followed by a ritual in which he bathed and dressed the bodies, was the most humane method of murder.
Owing to the similarities between the modus operandi of the murders, Nilsen has been described as the "British Jeffrey Dahmer."

I am familiar with this also.....I am glad they didn't tear it down.

I can understand the families no longer wanting a place like that to exist but does it really make things better? I ask that not in a position to answer but I would have no problem living there especially at a "bargain" price.

I would never do it as really I emphasis with the families and victims of crimes and I understand how traumatic it might be for them and that trumps my fascination but am I the only one that thinks that something like Ariel Castro's house would make for a great haunted house on Halloween?

I'm not really into them any more at my age but would I attend one at 10050 Cielo drive if that was still possible? Yeah.

Would it not be.........I'm not sure the word, here. But wouldn't it make you think every time you put the uneaten portions of the days steak down the garbage disposal in Nilsen's flat if you lived there?

I wouldn't tour an infamous house as "haunted," if it were set up to look like the crime scene. I feel that would denigrate the victims, and show that only their last minutes mattered. Now, would I tour a mock set up of the "Wished for Deaths of Infamous Killers?" You bet; I would buy my ticket first.

Ha ha.....I should have left a bargain bucket outside the front door for a laugh.

Iā??ve only stood outside the house. I considered ringing the bell several times to see who lives there now, but I never did.

It may even be someone who isnā??t aware of what went on there though, although itā??s quite unlikely.
